Chapter 29 - Chapter 29: Enel's Wrath

"Ace!"

A blinding bolt of lightning flashed, and Enel's figure suddenly appeared beside Portgas D. Ace, seemingly teleporting. The golden staff in his hand, superheated by lightning, transformed into a sharp blade and lunged at Ace.

Ace instinctively twisted his body to dodge the thrust, but the golden blade grazed his chest, leaving a shallow wound as blood trickled down.

"How is that possible?!" Ace stared down at the wound in disbelief.

He was certain that Enel hadn't coated his weapon with Busoshoku Haki (Armament Haki). So how could it wound his Logia body?

'As I thought, Mantra can perceive the essence of nature types,' Enel remained outwardly calm, though he was elated. The realization that Mantra—what Skypiea called Kenbunshoku Haki (Observation Haki)—could detect a Logia user's real body was a groundbreaking discovery for him.

'This Blue Sea guy doesn't know how to use Mantra. Victory is mine!' Enel sneered and lunged forward again with his golden blade, unleashing a barrage of precise strikes.

Ace retreated rapidly, dodging the furious onslaught. However, Enel's Mantra allowed him to predict Ace's movements, and after a brief exchange, Ace had accumulated multiple wounds across his body.

"I get it now—it's Mantra!" Ace realized that Enel was a master of this ability. And because of that, he could sense the location of Ace's tangible body even while Ace was in his elemental form—especially in moments when Ace became tense and momentarily lost his elemental state.

"So that's how it works..." With this insight, Ace quickly calmed down. Mantra could detect his physical body, but it could not touch his fully elementalized form. In other words, as long as he maintained his Logia state, Enel couldn't harm him.

Zzzt!

Enel struck again with a flurry of lightning-enhanced attacks. This time, however, Ace didn't dodge. He allowed Enel's blade to pierce directly through his body.

Shlkk, shlkk!

The blade tore through Ace's torso—yet no blood spilled. Instead, searing flames immediately closed the wounds.

"What?!" Enel's triumphant grin vanished. His face darkened.

"I was careless before. I forgot your Mantra can detect my tangible form. But now... I'm prepared." Ace's tone was calm. "You won't hit me again."

"So give up. Neither of us can harm the other now—this fight has no winner." Ace said firmly.

"No... NEVER!" Enel snarled.

He suddenly transformed into a bolt of lightning and reappeared next to Saruyama, paralyzing him with a lightning strike, and then reached out toward the so-called Divine Pillar.

"This thing can hit Logia users even in elemental form! Once I have the Divine Pillar, I'll be the true victor!" Enel shouted maniacally.

"Idiot." Ace watched Enel's desperate move with disdain.

The "Divine Pillar" was clearly made of Seastone—an infamous mineral known to negate Devil Fruit powers and paralyze the abilities of its users. Enel rushing toward it without understanding this was essentially suicide.

As expected, Enel's face twisted in pain the instant his hand touched the pillar. His strength drained away in an instant. His Logia body flickered and collapsed into a vulnerable human form.

Panicked, Enel jerked his hand away, but the damage was done. He could no longer maintain his elemental body.

"Urouge, now!" Ace shouted.

Hearing the command, Urouge—the monk from the Sky Islands—acted instantly. His towering eight-meter form dashed toward Enel. With fists the size of barrels, he unleashed his full strength.

"Karma Punishment!"

BOOM!

The punch smashed into Enel's body, hurling him upward through the thick layers of cloud. A massive hole was blasted through the sky, and Enel's body plummeted down through it.

After the strike, Urouge's enhanced body rapidly shrank, returning from eight meters to his usual towering but less exaggerated form.

CRAAACK!

A thunderous roar erupted from beneath the clouds.

Bathed in arcs of electricity, Enel slowly rose back into view.

His form had transformed—he now resembled a ten-meter-tall humanoid wrapped in lightning. This was his incomplete version of the Amaru form—his self-proclaimed "Raijin" or God of Thunder mode.

Why incomplete? Because it was clearly smaller and less refined than the perfected version he used in the original timeline during his battle with Luffy. He had yet to fully master this technique.

"Unforgivable! UNFORGIVABLE!" roared the enraged Enel.

Lightning surged wildly around him, lashing the clouds above, forming a monstrous storm cloud. It grew larger with each second, fed by the thunder and fury radiating from Enel's body.

"God... is enraged!"

"Lord Enel is furious!"

"This island is doomed! Retreat now!"

The remaining priests turned pale and immediately began to flee.

"Damn it, that's his ultimate move!" Ace looked up at the swelling thunderclouds and shouted: "Urouge! Evacuate everyone now—Enel is going to destroy the entire island!"

"Understood!" Urouge turned to the Sky Island residents. "Evacuate immediately!"

But the monks hesitated. They exchanged confused glances, unmoving.

"You fools!" Urouge bellowed in frustration.

Even as the clouds trembled and divine lightning gathered above, the ignorant monks hesitated—unaware of the true devastation Enel's wrath could bring.
