As expected of a school renowned for its noble status, it was truly luxurious—Silas couldn't help but be impressed.
According to the information provided by Professor Rowan and his own understanding, the several thousand acres of land surrounding them all belonged to the Pokémon Research School.
Within it were various areas simulating different wild Pokémon environments, along with all kinds of research and training facilities everything one could possibly imagine.
Even the dormitories were luxurious standalone villas. This was probably the first time Silas had lived in such a place in his life.
It wasn't surprising. The Pokémon Research School was located in the Kanto Region, nestled between Cerulean City and Vermilion City.
Graduating from this school granted students the right to directly participate in the Pokémon League competition without the need to challenge gyms and collect badges.
The school had a ranking system junior students held the strength equivalent to two badges, intermediate students four, and advanced students eight. Once they reached that level, they could choose to graduate.
It could be described as a true noble institution. The average person wouldn't be able to get in, and even if they did, the tuition fees were exorbitantly high.
On top of that, the school received financial support from the League, making it incredibly wealthy naturally, the facilities and grounds were built to perfection.
The school wasn't nearly as low-budget as it was sometimes depicted in the anime. It had real substance. Many powerful trainers—including Lance were alumni of this institution.
Its graduates often ranked in the top 32 or top 16 in the League tournaments, with many even making it into the top four. Quite a few had gone on to become Elite Four members.
Silas pressed the intercom button by the side of the gate. After the chime sounded, a graceful female voice responded.
"Hello, this is the Kanto Pokémon Research School. Do you have a scheduled appointment? If not, please be advised that outsiders are not permitted beyond this point. Thank you for your understanding."
"I am Silas Alaric, a breeder sent by Professor Oak as a temporary instructor," Silas responded politely. "I already spoke with your principal yesterday."
"Understood. Please hold on while I verify your identity."
There was a brief silence.
Silas didn't mind and stood there waiting patiently.
It made sense that identification had to be verified. While technically part of the school grounds, this place was still considered a wilderness area.
Most of the students inside were from extremely wealthy or powerful families, and many were just kids without strong battle capabilities.
That said, the overall security force counting the intermediate and advanced students, faculty members, and even the powerful Pokémon brought in by parents to protect their children was estimated to have a combined strength rivaling seven or eight Elite Four members, and that's the stronger kind.
If a criminal organization actually attacked this place and the League didn't respond immediately, it would be fair to say the League was on the verge of collapse.
As Silas was letting his thoughts wander, the woman's voice came through again.
"Thank you for waiting. We've confirmed your identity. A staff member will come to escort you shortly. Please wait a moment after entering the main gate. We wish you a pleasant teaching experience and thank you for your support."
"Thank you very much."
What a pleasant attitude, Silas thought to himself.
The woman replied, "You're welcome," and then ended the call.
The large automatic iron gate slowly opened, revealing a wide path big enough for him and his Blaziken to pass through.
As he stepped inside, the scene before him became much clearer than it had been from behind the gate. The interior environment was genuinely impressive.
The first thing he saw was a beautiful garden, with a massive fountain centerpiece at the entrance it was truly picturesque.
A paved road extended from both sides of the fountain, and in the distance, various buildings with distinct architectural styles came into view.
Just then, a tour cart slowly drove up to him, and at the wheel was a young, muscular man.
"Hey! You must be Breeder Silas Alaric, right?"
From afar, the man was already shouting his greeting so loudly that Silas's ears felt a bit overwhelmed.
"Ah, yes! Hello! I'll be in your care!" Silas instinctively raised his voice in response.
Skreech the sound of brakes screeched as the tour cart came to a perfect stop right in front of him.
"Hop on!" the muscular man called out.
Silas thanked him and boarded the cart with Blaziken by his side.
On the ride, the man introduced himself. His name was Jin, just a single character. Like Silas, he was also serving temporarily as a teacher. He mentioned that he'd be leaving soon and was just curious to see what the incoming instructor was like.
"That Blaziken of yours is pretty impressive," Jin said with a hearty laugh. "At least quasi-Champion level, I'd say! Hah! Just look at those thigh muscles probably about sixty to seventy percent more developed than the average."
"Energy levels look great too. I bet you've been using a lot of Sitrus Berries, huh? Not bad, not bad.
"Oh! Judging by its posture, the reflexes are outstanding too. Its combat training seems really well-rounded!"
The burly man no Jin—steered the tour vehicle with one hand as he turned to examine and comment on Blaziken with a keen eye.
Silas's body tensed up. What kind of monster is this guy? Can a human really see all that just with their eyes? Do temporary teachers need to be this qualified nowadays?
He doesn't even have a Pokédex and still makes assessments better than I could with full instruments and that even takes time!
If it weren't for the facts that jin didn't seem hostile, Silas would have wanted to jump off the cart and bolt right then and there.
Blaziken sensed its trainer's unease but obediently remained seated, perfectly still.
"We're here. Head up to the third floor and go to the principal's office. I'm off see you around, kid!"
They quickly arrived at their destination. After letting Silas and Blaziken off,Jin waved a quick goodbye and drove off.
Trainer and Pokémon stood at the door, exchanging glances.
"Blazi-Ken~"
Blaziken was the first to speak.
Silas was stunned.
"You're saying that guy just now... felt powerful? That you couldn't beat him? Are you serious? He's a person, not a Pokémon!"
Silas almost thought Blaziken was joking with him.
"Blazi-ken! Blazi!"
Blaziken shook its head seriously. It wasn't kidding. That man was strong. Ridiculously strong.
Silas rubbed his temples in frustration. Powerhouses like that are rare even in the League. Why would someone like him be hanging around here teaching kids?
Still confused, Silas led Blaziken upstairs. Even as he knocked on the principal's door, he couldn't wrap his head around it.
Luckily, this place didn't seem dangerous. Judging from Jin's demeanor, he probably wouldn't do anything bad. And even if he wanted to… what could Silas do about it?
"Come in."
A frail, elderly voice responded. Silas pushed the door open and stepped inside.
"Hello, I'm Silas Alaric, recommended by Professor Oak."
He stood respectfully and greeted the old man before him.
"Alright, alright, Silas. No need to be so formal. It's not like we're strangers."
The elderly man smiled kindly as he stood to greet Silas.
"That won't do, sir. Respect should never be skipped. Especially not for someone who's taken such good care of me in the past."
Silas looked at the kind old man before him, eyes filled with warmth.
