Chapter 89 - Chapter 89: Jin’s Identity

The old man in front of him was none other than Silas' former teacher back when he attended the Pokémon Academy in Viridian City.

Back then, the old man was already the principal, but he still taught Pokémon studies. As he once said, "I've been teaching my whole life. Even as a principal, I can't sit idle."

He was also the one who had encouraged Silas to pursue a path as a Pokémon scholar in the future.

"Speaking of which, when Professor Oak recommended you to me, I was a little surprised when I saw your name. I thought, 'Could it really be the same person with the same name?'

Sure enough, when I contacted you—it really was you.

Looks like you're doing pretty well now, even acquainted with Professor Oak.

It's a shame though… I always thought you were more suited to becoming a scholar, maybe even a professor one day. But you insisted on becoming a Trainer.

What's so good about being a Trainer? The wild is dangerous. There are still so many unexplored places in the world.

But since it's your own decision, this old man won't interfere. Still, you must be careful out there, you hear me?"

The old man rambled on while pulling Silas to sit on a nearby sofa, his mouth never stopping.

Silas listened with a gentle smile, showing no sign of impatience. He naturally understood that this was the old man's way of showing care. After all, whether in the past or now, his teacher had always looked after him.

After talking non-stop for seven or eight minutes, the old man finally grew a little parched and took a sip of tea, letting out a self-deprecating chuckle.

"Getting old sure makes one long-winded."

As he spoke, his gaze shifted to the Blaziken standing nearby.

"This is your Pokémon, isn't it? Raised very well its feathers are thick and shiny, and it has sharp eyes.

Its build is also just right neither too large nor too small very balanced.

More importantly, it has an excellent temperament. Yes, very good indeed."

The old man nodded repeatedly. As an expert in Pokémon studies, he was also an accomplished Breeder and could naturally see the quality of this Blaziken.

"By the way, Teacher, who is that temporary instructor named Jin who came to pick me up earlier?"

Silas asked quickly. Even his teacher could only identify the basics of Blaziken's condition, yet that brawny man named Jin had seen so much more it had really piqued his curiosity.

"Jin?" the old man paused. "He came to get you?"

"He said he was leaving soon and got curious about the new instructor, so he came to check and ended up picking me up," Silas answered honestly.

The old man laughed freely. "That guy… so casual. Let me guess he praised your Blaziken and did so very accurately?"

Silas immediately nodded in agreement.

"Jin is the League's Chief Instructor. All the Officer Jennys, Rangers, police, and anyone in League-affiliated professions he's the one responsible for training their combat skills. He also oversees the League's internal special units.

His first Pokémon was a Torchic, given to him by the League. It's now one of his ace Pokémon very strong, probably Champion level.

He also has Aura powers. You've learned about Aura before, haven't you? I taught you that too. So it's no surprise he could see so much don't be too shocked."

The old man casually revealed Jin's identity.

"Come to think of it, he's also half a disciple of Bruno. But now, this disciple's strength is about on par with his master.

We only invited him to our school for a day to provide some guidance to the senior students about to graduate. He's a very busy man."

Silas nodded. No wonder with Blaziken as his ace and Aura powers, it was natural for him to see things in such detail.

"Alright, let me show you around the place where you'll be working for the next week."

The old man stood up with enthusiasm.

"No, no, Teacher, you go handle your own matters. Just have someone else show me around," Silas quickly interjected. His teacher was already getting on in years and had plenty of administrative duties as the principal he should rest.

"Fair enough. You'll be staying on campus this week anyway. I'll drop by your place when I have time. Hold on a sec I'll call someone."

The old man decisively picked up the phone and dialed. "Hello, Hazen? Come to my office I need something. Hurry up. Click!"

He hung up just as decisively. Silas, sitting nearby, could only smile politely.

His teacher's personality hadn't changed one bit.

The two of them took this short break to chat. Mainly, Silas shared a bit about what he'd been through over the past few years. The old man simply listened after all, Silas had kept many things to himself before due to various concerns.

Of course, Silas left out many hardships, only mentioning the positive highlights like catching a Pidgey, obtaining a Fire Stone, trading for a Torchic, getting investment from the Pewter Gym, winning the Saint Anne Gym Exchange Tournament, and so on.

He only reported the good news and not the bad. He didn't want his elder to worry.

As for the old man, he naturally understood that the journey hadn't been as smooth as Silas made it sound. The calmer the retelling, the more it revealed the difficulty behind it.

But since it was the child's own choice, he didn't feel right intervening. He didn't have the authority to interfere either though he did care deeply for Silas.

Knock knock!

Just as the two were chatting, a knock came at the door.

"Come in."

Sasaki Gota Silas's teacher called to the person outside.

A gray-haired boy walked in. He was about to ask why the principal had called him in; after all, he was about to graduate. But the moment he entered, he saw Silas standing off to the side.

"You!? What are you doing here?"

Yezo couldn't believe it. This guy had just beaten him yesterday did he come here to show off?

After being lectured by Professor Jin that morning, he had sneaked off to the Cerulean City Pokémon Center to hang out. He had wanted to show off his new Pokémon and prove his strength, but he'd been defeated by the guy in front of him in just one move.

Though he had later communicated with his Golbat and roughly understood what had happened, and had to admit the other's skills were impressive, he didn't expect him to come here.

Silas, who was sipping water with his head down, looked up when he heard the voice. The face seemed familiar. He searched his memory and recalled the details.

"Oh! You're that Yezo from yesterday. Your Golbat is really strong!"

Silas praised him sincerely. That Golbat had adjusted quickly during battle it was clearly well-trained.

But Yezo only felt mocked. His face turned a little red.

Principal Gota chuckled as he watched the two young men. With his rich experience, he could pretty much guess what had happened based on their conversation and expressions. Not bad young people need rivals to push them forward.

"Perfect. Since you two already know each other, that makes things easier. Yezo, Silas is here to serve as a temporary instructor for your junior students a Pokémon Breeder guest teacher. Take him around the campus and help him get familiar. He'll be staying for a week."
