We were driving in Shaun's SUV when we pulled into a building that had construction workers in the front of it.
"Hey Shaun!" one of them said
"Hey man! How's the sign coming along?"
The worker shrugged "give it another week or two"
Shaun then looked back at me "there's supposed to be a sign but they're currently installing it"
We walked through the front door into a sort of lobby room with an empty desk up front
"We also have yet to find a receptionist" Shaun chuckled "look were still pretty new, kinda like the surge itself."
"So will I be living here or something?"
"Nah" Shaun said in a lax tone "we will pay you for your work though, but that's a discussion for another day we gotta introduce you!"
We approached a door that said [meetup room] and Shaun gestured for me to stay
"Let me set you up and I'll signal you to come in."
He then went through the door and clapped his hands. "Alright everyone! I'm happy to say we have a new recruit for the S.U.Z! this makes us four people strong! Well technically five when Soul is here but never mind that! Come on in!"
I guessed that that was the signal and entered the room.
The room had a kitchen setup to the right of it, and 3 tables to the left, the back had a window a vending machine with a desktop near it, and a backdoor that lead to an outside training ground.
Other than Shaun there were 3 other people in the room,
The girl from earlier who was sitting on top of a table, Frank who had a bandage on his head and was leaning on the counter near the kitchen, and another guy I've never seen before siting at one of the tables. he had blond hair, a white shirt, and a sheath to his side hanging on the belt of his jeans.
"Hi um… I'm Jake, well you guys probably already knew that" Frank and the girl nodded, and the blond haired guy walked up to me.
"Ah! You must be Jake!" the guy cheerily said as he started to go in for a hug.
"Oh uh- can you not?" I asked nicely
"Sorry but its mandatory to hug your coworker after he first joins" he then wrapped his arms around me and put me in a tight bear hug
"help" I gasped under his grip
"Cut it out Tammi"
The girl got up and put her arm on the guy- or Tammi's shoulder. "Aw man, Marion! Your no fun!"
"What kind on name is Marion?" "Sorry about him" she said, "he can get touchy sometimes, not in a freaky way though."
I nodded and Shaun snaped his fingers "focus guys! Jake, say your Surged ability and… well I would say name, but we already know that."
"What a weird bunch of people"
I sighed "my name is Jake; my surged ability is electricity manipulation"
Tammi whistled "interesting! I can't wait to see it, I'm Tammi Flav and that girl right there is Marion bead."
The girl came over and shook my hand. Her hat was off showing her long black hair and her pure blue eyes. "Nice to meet you Jake I also look forward to seeing your ability"
"Yeah it's great to meet you guys… wait what do you mean see it?"
Shaun grinned "actually that's the next part of today!"
Frank groaned "you don't say." "Oh yes I do say Frank!"
"it's time for a sparring match!"

Remember that outside training ground I talked about a while back? Apparently that's a sparring ground that these guys use to fight each other, but from what they've said think it's pretty one sided
"it's always just me vs Tammi because Marion's ability doesn't help as well in fighting." Frank explained "and Tammi is strong, not as strong as Soul but strong" Frank then thought for a moment and then quickly said "do you know who Soul is?"
Before I could say yes Shaun opened his mouth again
"Well despite there being four of us, I would want to bench Frank due to his injury, but then we need a fifth…"
"wait" I interrupted "Shaun are you not surged?"
There was a dead silence and then everyone 'except Shaun' busted out laughing
"Shaun? Oh, he has a surged ability! It's called being a total pushover!" Tammi laughed
"Barely been here and your already making jokes!" Frank said, "you'll fit right in man!"
I wasn't joking…
"Sadly, no I don't" Shaun. Gritted his teeth "so we should find a fifth before we begin"
As if waiting for him to say that a familiar shadowed voice emerged from a corner
"Did someone say fifth?"
Soul walked out from the corner with his hands out, as if he was waiting for a group hug, His dark gray eyes glistened in the sunlight. the presence he gave off was dangerous, and strong, like his mere existence was overpowering.
"Soul!" Tammi ran over and they dapped eachother up "my man!"
"Soul." Marion said not even looking up from her phone.
Everyone here seemed to look up to Soul, from what I've heard the guy is extremely powerful, I Guess this a way to see how."
"I came to see the new recruit" he winked at me "and I wanna join your little fighting match."
"Are you not part of the S.U.Z?" I questioned.
The man shook his head "I'm much higher up on the chain of command. My ability lets me be basically anywhere at once, so I kinda look over the whole country." He patted me on the head "but I was able to make some time for you!"
"Glad that you could join for the new guy Soul!" Shaun patted his back. "Now that we have enough people, who wants to fight who?"
"I call-!"
"Jake."
Marion interrupted Tammi and he frowned at her "I was gonna say him!"
"It would be better for me to fight jake because I would get my ass kicked by Soul."
The man in question chuckled "she isn't wrong Tammi."
"Fine" he grumbled, "but you guys are going first!"
The next thing I knew, Shaun was explaining how a sparring match went as I was sitting at my spot.
"Okay, keep it in the ring and try not to blow her up, the closest surged that can heal her is about 3 hours away. Any questions?"
I stuttered "uh- well- how do you- you know- fight someone?"
Shaun sighed, then put his hand on my shoulder and smiled "you'll figure it out"
The leader was about to leave but then doubled back "also, don't underestimate Marion, despite what they've said she can outsmart and overpower a newbie."
I nodded and looked at my target, she was on her phone chewing gum.
"Alright!" Shaun went to the middle of the field
I readied my electricity veil, and it surrounded my body in more blue lightning. Soul, who was sitting out on a bench with the others scratched his chin and Tammi's eyes widened.
I don't know what to expect from this fight. Will she beat me up with ease? Whatever happens, don't underestimate her.
"Let the fight begin!" Shaun stepped to the sideline.
