Chapter 1 - Warm Welcoming

"Welcome to Zap city folks!" a man on a little screen said to the train. I looked out the nearby window and saw a city full of life and people. "As you guys know the recent events have had many on edge! But don't be concerned our top-of-the-line law enforcement has everything under control!" I sighed "do you really think you can handle this mess?"

it's been about 5 weeks since the incident, media has started to call it "the surge." No one knows exactly what caused it, but suddenly you have people flying around and crumbling buildings with their minds, and I guess we just gotta roll with the punches. The government has already made an app to register all the super people or "surged" as they call them. All of it kind of puts me on edge, like at any point someone could just walk up and think "I don't like you" then explode me into pieces.

"Get yourself together Jake!" I thought to myself "there's no way that would ever happen." My thoughts of death were interrupted by a loud screeching noise of the train stopping. "Now exiting for: Zap city." A lady mumbled over the microphone. I picked up my backpack and rushed out of my seat, it was packed. About 50 people were slammed together at the door. "one at a time folks!" I heard a worker say "outta my way commoners!" a richer looking man hollered, "I have work I need to get to!" "It can wait old man!" another yelled, "some of us have a family!" more yelling ensued but eventually I was able to squeeze out of it.

The station felt more crowded, probably because it was more crowded than usual. The surge made tons of families worry about their loved ones, causing families to move together, I don't blame them, it just makes it more inconvenient for others. As I went up the stairs from a sign that said [exit], I reached a security team a lined up at the top. "Weird, its usually just some turnstiles" I'm moving to this city so it's my first time here, but I've been to some trains before, and security is never this tight. I walked up to the shortest line and waited for my turn.

As I reached the front of the line the guard working there gestured for me to give him my bag "sorry man, the surge has the city concerned for safety, so they decide to up it in highly populated areas." He put it through an x-ray machine and looked back at me "you mind if I ask you a few questions?"

I nodded at him, and he started talking

"what's your full name?"

"Jake Moorne"

"What is your age?"

"24"

"Have you yet to be affected by the surge?"

"No"

"Have you come in contact with any of surged?"

"No"

"What is your Purpose of visiting zap city?"

"To live here"

He raised his eyebrow and went on

"Are any of your family surged?"

"No."

"Alright I think you're good" he gave me a thumbs up and let me go through the metal detector.

After grabbing my stuff, I was about to move on when I got a phone call:

[mom]

I sighed and hit accept.

[Hey Jake! How was your train ride!]

[It was fine mom. How do you even know I'm off it?]

[The tracker app on the phones told me]

[You know I don't like you using that!]

We talked for a little longer about what I was going to do here, and I looked at the large station food court filled with people and different restaurants. "I could go for something right now" I was fixed between RGC (really good chicken) and Mr. Fonols when Someone bumped into me. "Oh, I'm sorry" I looked at them and they seemed… off. Their hair was messy and gray while their mouth seemed to be for wrinkled, they also had a really weird slouch and were twitching a lot. "Uh you okay man?" I asked him. He raised his head and looked in my direction, He then opened his mouth and Screamed "LEAVE ME ALONE!" but this wasn't an ordinary scream, it was powerful. Like, Powerful enough to send me flying into a nearby table. "Oh my god is that guy okay?" a crowed started to form around us, and the man turned and looked at the rest of them "ALL OF YOU STAY BACK!" it was like a visible wave of force came from his mouth. the crowd was thrown away and the roof started to crumble.
