"The sound of that gay guy's bed shaking is wrong," Viego said seriously in a low voice. "I know this sounds weird, but I'm serious, W."
"?" W was speechless for a moment, but in the next second, she realized that something was indeed wrong.
To put it simply, her mercenary companions were mostly rough men. They marched during the day and camped in the evening, exhausted after a full day's work. Every night when they slept in the camp, they would be accompanied by a chorus of snoring.
But tonight was too quiet. There was no snoring.
Only the rustling of wild animals fleeing the camp. In the jungle, the escape of small wild animals often indicated that they sensed a more dangerous, higher-level predator nearby.
W put down her dagger, grabbed Viego, and pulled him out from the other side of the tent. Viego remained silent this time, letting W lead him. W's thinking was very clear.
Something was wrong in the camp. An enemy had definitely infiltrated, their numbers unknown. But the camp was already without snores, and no one had raised an alarm, which proved that most of them, including the hidden sentries, had been dealt with. To be able to quickly and uniformly take out most of her mercenary teammates, the enemy's numbers were definitely not small, and they were well-trained.
Sounding an alarm now would only expose herself, and it would be impossible to get help from her teammates or achieve the effect of a warning. The enemy already had the absolute upper hand. W could only choose to save herself first.
Although she could have had Viego charge out of the tent to attract the enemy's attention and sound an alarm while she hid in a risk-free dark corner, W didn't do so. Viego was still useful; he couldn't be consumed as a one-time bait. Thinking of the worst-case scenario, perhaps the only one left by her side was this one barely "unqualified teammate," Viego.
Tsk… I was originally planning to leave them behind to cover our retreat. I didn't expect the enemy to come so quickly.
W cursed under her breath, glanced at Viego following behind her, and stopped at the edge of the camp by a tent.
"When you're not talking, you actually look a bit like a mercenary, Viego." W leaned close to Viego's ear, her face almost touching it, her low voice carrying a hint of a smile. "I hope you can maintain your current state when the fighting starts."
She pointed to the tent five meters ahead. "See the person inside? He just killed a mercenary and is now cleaning up. Go in and take care of him, don't make too much noise. If you succeed, I'll follow. If you fail…"
The corners of W's lips curled into a dangerous and beautiful smile. "I'll blow you to heaven along with him."
"W."
"What?"
Viego's tone was serious. He turned his head slightly and asked softly, "When did you secretly brush your teeth?"
W froze for a moment, then gritted her teeth and shoved the dagger into Viego's hand. "Viego, get lost!"
Viego looked down at the dagger W had shoved into his hand, bent over, and walked into the tent. Seeing the dark figure with his back to him, who had just barely turned around upon hearing the noise, he thrust the dagger in his hand forward.
Like a hot knife through butter, the dagger easily pierced the thick tactical vest on the figure's body and plunged into his stomach. The wound was not fatal, but he couldn't make a single sound. He just went stiff and collapsed softly to the ground, quickly falling silent.
This was thanks to W. When she had leaned close to Viego's ear just now, her body had made contact with his skin, and Viego's body had instinctively absorbed a trace of the Ruination's power carried by the fragment inside her. In short, Viego had just leveled up from being close to W. He could now shallowly use a trace of the Black Mist. Although it could at most be attached to the tip of the dagger and its effect was limited, it was enough for a silent kill.
The Black Mist entered the infiltrator's body, instantly destroying his heart and vocal cords, preventing him from making any sound. Moreover, after killing him, Viego could feel the Ruination within him grow a little stronger. It was an extremely faint change, but it was definitely there.
Killing heroes and minions gives EXP… makes sense.
Viego had no burden about killing people. The memories from the Ruined King gave him a high resistance to such things. When he was on Runeterra, he had already let the Black Mist sweep across the entire continent. Killing a person was like crushing an ant; there was no reaction at all. Although his main personality was still that of the transmigrator from the modern world, the memories of the Ruined King had indeed had some effect on him.
"I didn't expect you to be so clean with your work." W had appeared behind Viego at some point. "I thought you'd be fumbling around and crying for your mommy, alerting all the enemies."
"Didn't expect you to care about me so much?" Viego retorted softly without hesitation. "Someone just said that if I failed, they'd blow me to heaven with the enemy… how come you followed me before I even gave the signal?"
"I'm concerned about my money and my own life. If you die, who's going to pay me back? Besides, if the enemy is alerted, we'll just die together." W sneered in a low voice. "Who the f*ck would care about a brain-damaged moron like you? Only another moron would do that, and obviously, I'm not a moron."
"Say whatever you want. Anyway, I'm not the one who wanted my feet licked." In his past life, Viego was at least an internet keyboard warrior; he had never lost a verbal fight. "Heh, a woman who doesn't say what she means."
W gritted her teeth. "Who the f*ck wanted their feet licked! It was clearly you who was dying to be stepped on by my feet, you perverted masochist!"
"Oh, so you like stepping on people with your feet?" Viego picked up the weapon of the slain infiltrator—a longsword, stronger than a small dagger. At least it was long enough.
Just as W was about to curse him out, she was interrupted by a loud shout from within the camp.
"We've been exposed! Move in and clear the camp now!"
W was startled. She was about to pull out her grenade launcher and start shooting, but she saw that the dozen or so figures emerging from the perimeter of the camp weren't paying any attention to their location at all.
"W, it must be because you talk too much," Viego said in a low voice. "See, you have a guilty conscience. They shouted once, and you thought you were exposed."
"Viego, shut up!" W reached out and pinched Viego's cheeks, her eyes fixed on the outside of the tent. She said in a low voice, "If we get discovered because you were talking, then even if I die, I'll blow your mouth off first!"
The web of W's hand was right on Viego's mouth. Viego glanced down, feeling the Ruination within his body growing at an extremely slow speed. He started to get a little excited, and a somewhat dangerous idea popped into his head.
If I were to take a slurp from W's hand, would it speed up the rate at which I absorb the power of the Ruination?
