Chapter 45: Her First Shot
The metal of the gun was cold in her hands, but Janet didn't flinch. She grabbed it, fingers trembling, and rose slowly to her feet, her body bruised but her eyes sharp with fire.
Dmitri stood frozen for a second, watching her with surprise. "You wouldn't dare," he hissed, rubbing the bite wound on his hand.
Her arms shook slightly, but she stood tall, aiming the gun right at his chest. Her breaths were loud, panicked—but her will was iron.
"Try me," she said, her voice low and filled with something Dmitri had never heard from her before—power.
He took a cautious step forward, raising his hands slightly. "Janet, put it down. You don't even know how to use it—"
"Don't test me!" she shrieked, finger hovering dangerously close to the trigger.
Behind her, Luca stirred, groaning, finally regaining his senses. His vision blurred, but the image of Janet holding the gun made his heart stop.
"Janet…" he whispered.
Dmitri lunged forward—but Janet cocked the gun, pointing directly at his heart.
"One more step and I swear, I'll shoot."
For the first time, Dmitri hesitated. The girl he once thought of as prey… now held his life in her hands.
