Chapter 36: Racing Against the Dark
Back at his mansion, Luca stood silently, fists clenched, eyes fixed on the tablet screen in front of him.
The GPS pinged.
He finally had the location.
It was a remote estate deep in the woods—no roads, no public access. Just like Dmitri would design it. Hidden. Isolated. Dangerous.
His heart raced. Janet had been gone for hours.
"She could be hurt…" he whispered to himself, jaw tightening.
He grabbed his coat and strode out of the house like a thunderstorm ready to erupt. His guards barely had time to follow.
"Start the chopper!" he barked into his phone. "If I don't make it in by road, I'll land right on that bastard's roof if I have to."
He got into his black McLaren, gunning the engine. The night sky flashed with lightning as rain began to pour.
He didn't care.
Dmitri touched her.
He dared to take Janet.
He swore under his breath.
"No one—no one—hurts what's mine and lives."
And as the tires screeched onto the highway, he whispered to himself, "Hold on, Janet… I'm coming."
