Chapter 9 - Maybe I'm An Old Soul!

Asher pulled up to the square as the comet went flew striking past Mystic Falls, he pulled open the passenger side door and extended his hand outwards.

As a dashing blonde haired women stepped out, her blonde hair was straightened and cascaded down to her shoulders, her lips were tinged pink with lip gloss.

She wore a black dress that showed a bit of cleavage and accentuated her curves. Her hazel eyes glowed in the dark, giving her an appealing look.

The onlookers stared at her with jealousy as she awkwardly pushed her hair back, "I shouldn't have come here, this was a mistake. You're too young and… yeah this was a mistake.

"You should enjoy your teenage life, instead of hanging out with someone old like me." Her voice was low, but it held an indescribable sadness.

"No need to worry about things like that, I don't care what others think, let them think what they want to think. I believe that everyone should have a chance at happiness, and you sitting all alone in that home of yours is well sad." Asher voiced calmly, his voice was soft and reverbarated through the air as he slightly rubbed her shoulder.

Jenna narrowed her eyes at his words, "So you're taking me out because you pity me?" Asher waved his hands hastily as he said, "Oh no, I took you out because I'm selfish. I really don't want to leave such a pretty woman alone."

Jenna chuckled at his words and gently took his hands, "Well than, let's stop wasting time and go enjoy the comet." She pulled him forward, Jenna giggled softly as she thought to herself.

'I wonder what Elena and Jeremy would think if they saw me like this. My luck with men is so terrible that I have to go out with a younger boy, what am I doing.'

Jenna pulled Asher to a corner, they took two candles from one of the people at the event. They softly cupped it in their hands and looked forward.

"You know, people say that the comet flying through the vast space was a natural thing. While it was beautiful, it was also nothing special. But I don't think so, I think the comet is lonely." Asher leaned his head towards Jenna as he gently wrapped his arm around her waist.

"Why do you think so?" She asked curiously, her breath turned cold as she spoke. "Well, it blazes through space with no one to see it. It can't orbit around it's home or even destroy itself. It continues it's journey through the unending space.

"Its arrival at its home is only for a few moments before it's gone. It passes through space with no real direction, it has no place to stop, it just moves, with no real purpose. I feel that, that's the most saddening part."

Asher's voice was low but dejected, his eyes wandered through the starry sky as he watched the comet pass. Jenna's eyes softened at his words, she felt that her situation was similar to the comet.

Her eyes softly watered before she wiped it away, and that she felt, was truly pathetic. Asher's words soon broke her spiral into depression as she looked up at his figure.

"I didn't think you dressed up so much to watch a rock fly through space for a few minutes, the night is still young. So Jenna, what do you say about grabbing something to eat?" He asked in a cherry tune, completely different from his previous disheartening words, as he held out his hand.

Jenna laughed warmly before tilting her head, "Well the pleasures all mine, now where do you want to go." She said as she clasped her hand over Asher's as he pulled her to the car.

"...."

First thing about going out to eat at eleven in the night was that most restaurants would be closed, normally they would be open till twelve, some even one. But today was a special day, as such most of the eateries closed early.

In the end they ended up at the Grill, but they couldn't cook up anything other than some fries and alcohol.

Jenna put one of the fries in her mouth and slowly ate them, a low crunching sound emanated as she drank some beer.

"I think Elena took her parents death the hardest, Jeremy turned to drugs and alcohol to vent while Elena sucked her wounds inside and put on a brave face for us.

"My sister made it look so easy, she took care of her children, balanced her work while also making sure that they did well in their life. And here I am, struggling to help Jeremy, trying to find some time to work while venting to a seventeen year old." Jenna said in a somber tone as she wiped tears from her eyes.

Asher tilted his head and massaged her hands, "I don't think you're doing bad, I think you're doing the best you can. You see from what I've heard off your sister, I can understand that she was an exceptional human being.

"But she also had someone to help her, and she had it easy, she was looking after babies while you're looking after stressed out teenagers. You shouldn't pretend to be someone else, you are your own person.

"You are stronger than people give you credit for, so stop worrying and do just live." Asher reassured her as he wiped away her tears.

"This is the pep talk I'd expect from my mom." Jenna said with a light hearted smile causing to Asher laugh, as he stuffed sone fries his mouth.

Jenna gazed at him intently, her hands went down to the basket as she grabbed some fries. "I still haven't understood why you're going out with me. You're young and handsome and smart, there are plenty of other fish in the sea. So why me?"

She asked as she narrowed her eyes at him, her previous sluggishness had vanished into the depths of Tartarus as she tried to elicit a response from him.

"Well I am new to town, so most people don't know or trust me. So no matter how many good traits I have, no one will try and socialise with me. Twas is the human nature, they isolate the unknown while huddling themselves closer with their own perspective of truth."

Asher said poetically as he laughed at his own words, Jenna pointed at him using one of the fries and slightly jabbed it towards him.

"I would've believed you if I hadn't known that Elena was dating someone new to town too. Steven was it? Steph? No, it's Stefan. So what's the truth." She asked drunkenly as her eyes turned weary.

"Well maybe it's because I'm a serial killer who loves going after drunk older women and ripping out their throats or maybe I'm just an old soul."

Asher's words caused Jenna to laugh our loud as she placed her hand on his shoulder. "I haven't heard something so hilarious in a while."

Asher merely smiled at her words as he eavesdropped on a conversation from far away.

"Hey, has anyone seen Vicki?" One voice rang out as it got further away.

"I don't know, you're her stalker, why don't you tell us?" A sharper and deeper voice rang out, which Asher deciphered to be Tyler.

'So the crackhead has gone missing, such a shame. Did she find out the truth about vampires and jump in a fright or did she run away. I did tell Stefan to eat something proper before compelling her.' Asher thought with indifference before another thought popped up into his mind.

'Maybe Damon went after her, he might just be eating her right now or its just a false alarm and she's doing drugs in the middle of nowhere.'
