Moro got to his 3rd period later in the day, which he shared with Calvin. The two sat next to each other, writing messages and passing them to each other as the teacher spoke. The teacher instructed kudo combat. She had long silver hair and bright blue eyes. She wore a brown beret with a white pom-pom, a red scarf, gray gloves, and a black jacket over a white top. And she had on a short gray pleated skirt that revealed her upper thighs.
Calvin fell asleep in the middle of her class. Moro didn't bother to wake him up. He knew the teacher, and she was very patient and lenient with her punishments. This was his second year of taking this course after all.
Since she had finished her introduction, she clapped her hands together. "Alright class, on Friday, we will have our first bit of field combat. However, tonight, I do have an assignment for you. The people who score the top 4 marks will be allowed to enter a tournament on Wednesday. This tournament is just for fun, but if you don't score high on the assignment, don't worry. At the end of this month, we will have a massive tournament with all the 23 of you. I hope you look forward to it." she said with a smile.
The class soon came to a close. Moro flicked Calvin on the head, waking him up. He stretched out over his desk while yawning. "So, hop on a call with me to explain everything I missed."
"You know, for a student council member, you sure don't act very proper, serpent master."
"Well, my titles pretty fitting, don't you think? Valkyrie only sees me as a pathetic animal she can't squash."
Valkyrie, the strongest in kudo master in the entire academy. She is so powerful that even the principal and the board of directors take orders from her. What makes her worse is her attitude towards thoughts she sees as beneath her, which is basically everyone. She was also the student council president.
"Ooh, scary." Moro said with a smile on his face. "Are you going to attend tomorrow's meeting?"
"Can I just skip it and go play video games at your house again?"
"You know Eternity won't be happy with that."
"Ugh, whatever. Territorial mutt."
"Yep, and she considers me her territory."
"Well," Calvin said while getting up and stretching. "I'm heading home. Catch you later, man."
The two high-fived, and Calvin left the room. People left until it was just Moro left. The teacher looked over to him. "Moro, why are you still here?"
"Sybil, can I take the assignment here?"
She pouted. "I told you to call me Ms. Rerien."
"Come now. We're childhood friends. You being my teacher doesn't change that."
Sybil was 4 years older than Moro, and they had known each other since elementary school. It was because of Moro that she has such a love for both kids and kudos, which is why she decided to take the job as a teacher she has right now. Even though her family hated her for it, Moro encouraged her to chase her dreams.
"So, why are you here." she asked.
"Can I finish my assignment while in your class?"
"Uh, sure. I don't have a problem with that. It's rather short, so you could finish it quickly."
It just took five minutes, Moro answered all 25 word questions. He walked over to hand it to Sybil, and she gave him an 85 before even looking at it.
"Oh. What's with the generosity on my grade?"
"Don't play dumb with me, Moro. I know you. I don't need to see one of your assignments to know what you scored." She then proceeded to list off every answer Moro wrote down. Some, she even said word for word. "I've known you my whole life. I know how your brain operates. By the way, I have one question for you before you leave."
"Oh, spitball."
"Why did you fail last year's exam?"
"Whatever do you mean?"
"Come now, don't make me say it. You scored a 69.9% exactly on both of your semesters in my class. Meaning, you'd have to repeat my class until you passed. Yet, your second-lowest grade was Economics last year, which was a 98.6%."
"Maybe I should have marked lower."
"So, what gives? Don't tell me... You failed, so you could stay in my class."
"Yep."
"M-Moro..."
"I'm smart enough to ace literally anything and everything you could throw at me, and we both know this. But in this school, you rarely get to see teachers outside of their classes. And since you're one of my best friends, I didn't want to say bye yet."
"You idiot. We could have still met outside of school like we've always done."
"Yeah, but that doesn't feel as good."
"You truly are the world's dumbest genius. Or maybe the world's smartest idiot."
"Why not both." he said while chuckling. "Besides, every year that I pass being a freshman, I can take up to 2 Kudo Center classes. So, it should be fine."
"Moro... you might want to leave."
"Aw, did what I said make you mad?" he said teasingly.
But her face was dead serious. "No, seriously, leave."
Suddenly, a dark presence entered the room. It was suffocating. Moro turned around to see someone standing at the door. She had long silver hair that faded into soft blue at the tips and bright blue eyes, blush on her cheeks. She wore dangling star earrings, a tight white ribbed turtleneck, a beige cardigan, a short black ruffled skirt, and shiny black knee-high boots.
"Well, well, well." said Moro with a nervous smile. "It's not nice to creep up on people, Ms. Valkyrie."
"Can it, Moro." she said with a cold tone. "You're not only wasted potential, but you're a terrible influence on my sister."
"Ok, ow."
Even when Valkyrie said this, she just stared at Sybil. It was because she didn't see Moro as worthy of breathing the same air as her. And she often showed this by refusing to look at someone she thought of as worthless.
Valkyrie was Sybil's younger sister. Despite Sybil being 3 years older than her, she was at the mercy of Valkyrie. Their family was the strongest in the country. Maybe even the whole world. And the entire family hated Moro. Sybil was on track to follow the family's footsteps in war, but Moro convinced her to follow her dreams.
"Val, leave him out of this." scolded Sybil.
But Valkyrie just looked down at her with a disgusting face. "Look at you. An insignificant fly like my sister is attracted to trash like you, Moro. How poetic."
"Don't insult him like that!"
Moro grabbed Valkyrie's shoulder. "We could fight if you wanna keep talking spicy like that. How about you show I'm trash with your actions rather than just your words?"
Valkyrie grew silent. She then smacked his hand away and dusted off her cardigan where Moro had touched her. "Don't spoil my clothing, scum. I don't have time to engage in games with you. We'll have this conversation at a later time, Sybil." And with that, Valkyrie walked out of the room.
Sybil slumped back in her chair and covered her face with her hands.
"Sorry, Sybil." Moro said with genuine regret in his voice. "I should have left like you said."
"Don't worry. It's not your fault. Well... it is, but I'm glad you were here. No one besides you is willing to stick up for me. No one goes against my sister for my sake. So..." she grew a soft blush on her face. "Thank you."
He smiled. "No problem."
