The first thing she did after reaching home was to check with her office about the inquiries of Felix Blackthrone.
She had expected him to make an effort to get her. But she had not anticipated the extent of it. He had contacted her office almost every hour for two years straight. Her team was the best, and perhaps that's the only reason they had succumbed to him and the reason the news didn't reach her at all.
Considering his desperation it would be easy for her to get him to make her stay if he revealed who she was. Rarely did she have cases where she didn't have her cards up. It was not like she didn't have already considered another 100 alternative to get him aboard. She noted how her brain had turned mush for a few moments and she had been in contact with him. She almost acted like a teenager meeting her crush and it was ridiculous.
She was a force of power, she knew it very well. She knew who she was, and she knew very well how to use that. She had waited years to be where she is now. She will not let a goddamn rich heir get in her way. No matter how appealing he seemed. Truthfully, her revealing who she was was a last resort. If he was as desperate as she imagined, all she had to do was tell him that she could cure her.
She was well known to be strong and kind, a lethal combination. She had the power to be a bitch to freeze her heart and not feel a thing when she wanted to, and she was also capable of moving mountains for those she cared about. Deadly women. And she found no shame that she may have to emotionally manipulate a guy who has almost lost his love. Honestly, she has seen worse.
As she made her way to the office the last thing she expected was to face Felix Blackthrone first thing in the morning.
He was there leisurely sitting in her office chair with an air of elegance that made her office look despicable next to him.
As she made her way to the desk, she was contemplating the reasons for his presence. This was definitely not something she expected. Had she been too late already, but it was never too late for her truthfully. She knew that there would always be a possibility to turn the table around.
"Mr Blackthrone what can I do to help you?" She said with her trained voice not letting anything slip. She wanted the upper hand here.
"First of all, Miss Davenhart, I apologize for the way I behaved with you yesterday." He said though his demeanor said otherwise.
Her death was known; it had been a scandal as if it was shortly followed after her father. But no one knew her as she was not popular in the social circle and she had grown up with her grandparents abroad, so she didn't consider the need to conceal it, especially when her now social circle hardly cared about it. The Davenhart family had not exactly flourished after her departure or not in the way it would attract attention. And she did not have to bother with them as this was not exactly their base. They couldn't handle the capital the way her family had once. The capital was a hungry circle. Where the finest survived. They could never manage to even step foot there.
But she definitely did not consider the prospect of Blackthrone getting hands on her surname. She had a feeling he already knew the juicy bits of news about her. That would only mean trouble to her.
She internally sighed. As if there weren't already enough trouble. She wondered if she had lost her element in all this.
" I understand Mr Blackthrone, though I'm not sure what caused it. We are all humans. We are allowed to have our moments." She watched the way his brows furrowed at her words. She liked that she had an effect on him. Which meant that she could control him to some extent.
" Thank you so much for understanding that, Miss Davenhart. But may I ask what your intentions are with Miss Winters? I am not accustomed to just anyone taking over the case." He said innocently. She internally scoffed at the irony.
A part of me wanted to shout at him and tell him who she was. But she knew she was much more rational than that. She had a feeling he knew all about her, or atleast the scandal. She had made sure to keep it under control but she knew it wouldn't be that hard for him to get hand on it. Or atleast enough to make her sweat a little bit.
"Sir, I am new to the hospital , but not new in this field but I am a consultant who assists in particularly difficult cases. But Miss Winters has caught my attention. I might be able to do something about it."
"Are you saying you can help her, that you can arouse her from her coma? Do you know what is causing her to stay as such?"
"No, I don't know what is inducing it . But I know where to begin." She said with a small smile.
"I appreciate your offer, but she is not your little project that you pick up while you feel bored and drop it when you don't. Sorry Doctor but find something else to amuse yourself." He got up from the chair and slowly started to get out of her office.
"She is no project for me. I do know where to begin and I know it's going somewhere. And I know that is more than your doctors had offered or can offer. I can understand what you are feeling. I will not say to keep your hopes up or something but if you give me a chance the probability would defend not be zero like now. I am your only chance to progress ." She finished , she knew it was a bit of a rant but she had to do that.
He looked back at her and started striding towards her until he was more close to her than he was supposed to, towering over her. Her breath hitched.
