Chapter 3 - Chapter Three: Monster Who Crashed the Party

I jumped. I was almost scared to answer my phone text again. But I knew if I just ignored it, I would never know who wanted to get my attention. I looked at my messages.

I pressed my text message button. Reading the text, it read: 'The Halloween party has been cancelled! Because the party host got sick and depressed. Don't bother coming to the party this year," the text said.

I couldn't believe! I was looking forward to going to a party. This was going to be the moment to experience some fun. I didn't know how to respond.

I wonder if I can host the party at the Alive at Midnight Mansion myself. I could ask some coworkers if they wanted to come to a party. Maybe on our day off.

Nothing would keep me from having fun on Halloween this year. It was my favorite holiday! I just didn't want to forget about not celebrating the holiday. Because somebody got sick. I wanted to have fun.

As I got ready for bed, I was going to plan to have the party at the Alive at Midnight Mansion on Halloween, without the party host. I turned out my bed table lamp, next to me. And fell into a dreamless sleep.

I found myself in a deep, restless slumber. I hadn't been asleep for too long. But I knew I was dreaming. Because I felt myself feeling haunted and cursed.

In my dream, I was at the front steps to the Alive at Midnight Mansion with two of my best, favorite coworkers with me. It was raining. And the ground covered in fog. It was also windy.

But my friendly coworkers didn't care about the bad weather condition. We were all wearing animal masks and carried Halloween trick-or-treat bags to collect candy.

Slowly, I opened the Alive at Midnight Mansion doorknob. At first, it wouldn't open. I tried again. And used my strength to open the big, wooden door.

It slowly, squeaked open. Inside, it was dark. And I knew nobody was home. Turning on a light next to the front door, the grand living room brightened up with sparkling lights all over the living room and kitchen.

There was a spiral staircase leading upstairs to the second floor of the mansion. Where the party would be held in the attic. I didn't want to explain to my friends how disappointed we'd be if we didn't stay the whole night without getting drunk and going wild.

My two friends, Yoyo Dunkin and Greg Geek from work, had never been to a party. As for me, this would also be my first time. But I didn't want them to think it would be boring or less entertaining without any girls crashing the party.

The Alive at Midnight Mansion had never been so brightly lit before. Fog covered the floors in the living room and also the kitchen. There were long, sad ghostly howls coming from the upstairs attic.

It startled my two work buddies, Yoyo and Greg. But I wanted to tell them everything would be alright. It was all for show and make-believe. None of what we were going to experience tonight, was real.

"What kind of party are we getting ourselves into, Hector?" my coworker, friend, Yoyo Dunkin asked me. Looking around, I knew I didn't have a straight answer. But I didn't want him to think this wasn't a game I was messing with them.

As my two best friends and myself started walking up the foggy spiral staircase, leading up to the attic, we could hear screams of laughter upstairs.

Yoyo and Greg jumped with fright. But I grabbed hold of them, from running back out of the mansion. "They're just having fun, guys! It's a party, remember?" I asked, trying to make them relax and calm down.

Turning to look up at the top of the stairs, the screaming got louder. And suddenly, the attic door opened. Somebody was coming out of the party room!

A girl wearing an ancient Egyptian costume appeared at the top of the stairs. She frowned and waved to us. "Come on, up! The party is getting started!" She explained, friendly enough.

She disappeared back into the attic room. Yoyo, Greg, and I looked at each other with disappointment and confusing. "See? What did I say? Just having fun at a party. What could go wrong?" I asked, trying not to worry.

My two best friends and I started to up the attic stairs again. We reached the top of the hall in the upstairs. That was when, we gasped. As somebody was being pushed out from the attic door. He crashed against the side of the wall in the brightly lit hallway.

Another angry boy wearing a superhero costume and tights, poked his head out of the attic. "Stay out the way! Tina is my girl!" The angry young man slapped the attic door on our faces.

I looked at the wounded boy with cat costume and went over to check on him. He looked embarrassed when Yoyo, Greg and I went over to help him.

"No, I'm fine," he groaned. "I didn't really like the jock's girlfriend anyway. She wasn't my taste. I was just flirting with her," he continued. I didn't understand.

"Do you really love somebody so much you would just forget about her?" I asked the poor, defenseless party animal. But the young man got up and pushed and shoved us aside. He walked away down the stairs. And disappeared.

Yoyo and Greg just shrugged. "He'll be alright, Kid," Greg told me, honestly. I wanted to believe, really I did. Somehow it just made me worry even more.

Was the Halloween party worth getting involved into? I didn't want to go home just yet. We made it this far. "Come on," I said. I led them into the attic door.

Where we were about to crash the monster party!
