Chapter 18 Where do you get your confidence?
After speaking, Nora Mills had tears shimmering in her eyes. She looked at Chasel Mills with a mix of pity and disdain.
Then, she turned and walked away.
"Nora Mills..." Chasel called out.
"You don't deserve to say my name. We're not from the same world," Nora replied without looking back, quickening her pace as if staying with Chasel for even a second was an insult to her.
Chasel clenched his fists tightly, then slowly relaxed them.
"You're right. We really aren't from the same world anymore," he said, his gaze filled with complexity.
Ever since he went to prison—or rather, since the day he enlisted—they had indeed been on different paths. Their circumstances had changed, and so had their responsibilities. They were facing two entirely different worlds.
Meanwhile, Samir led the group to the reserved private room, making sure everyone was settled in. However, he didn't enter the room right away. Instead, he made a phone call.
Soon, a waiter appeared and guided him to the innermost private room, known as the "Emperor's Hall."
Inside the spacious, comfortable room, a middle-aged man with a round belly and a shiny face was lounging on a large sofa.In his arms, Samir held two women in their twenties, both exuding a mature charm and an alluring presence. One of the women was pouring him a drink, while the other held a microphone, encouraging a middle-aged man to sing at the top of his lungs.
However, when the middle-aged man noticed Samir entering, he gestured for the music to stop, releasing the two women from his embrace. "Bro, it's been a long time! Haha!"
"Elliot, it really has been a while! I heard you've become the big boss of Heaven on Earth, so I came to show my support and congratulate you!" Samir quickly walked over and shook Elliot's hand.
"It's all thanks to Huxley's recognition," the middle-aged man chuckled, patting the stunning woman on his left.
The woman immediately understood and playfully leaned against Samir. He didn't resist and pulled her into his embrace.
"So, Huxley has taken over Billy's territory?" Samir asked, curious. He knew about Billy Bruno's death; it had caused quite a stir in Verdant City, with rumors suggesting a connection to the Walker family. However, he only knew the surface details and hadn't yetreached that level of understanding regarding the powerful Walker family.
"Bro, be careful with your words. Billy is no longer relevant; it's all about Huxley now!" the middle-aged man said seriously.
"Haha, that's right! But in my heart, I only recognize you, Elliot!" Samir replied with a grin.
Samir wore a smile on his face. To get ahead in life, one needed to navigate both the light and dark sides, making connections in both realms. This way, he could stand firm and get things done more easily. The man before him, Elliot, known as Elliot Price, was a friend of Samir's from the gray areas of life, a circle filled with daring individuals who weren't afraid to take risks. Although Samir secretly looked down on these rough characters, he maintained a good relationship with them.
"Brother, you should be careful with your words!" Elliot said, though his face was lit up with joy. Clearly, he was very pleased with Samir's remarks.
"Today, just have fun on me!" Elliot declared, waving his hand grandly.
"How can I let you spend money, Elliot?I'm just here to support you," Samir replied with a chuckle, then shifted the topic. "By the way, I saw a stunning young woman in the venue today. Interested?"
"Who?" Elliot raised an eyebrow, intrigued. He had a thing for mature women. Young girls were too innocent; there was something more satisfying about conquering another man's woman.
Samir had earned Elliot's friendship by previously introducing him to several attractive young women, which had left Elliot extremely satisfied. That was why they had formed such a bond.Since Samir was willing to introduce him, it must be someone exceptional. Elliot Price couldn't help but feel intrigued.
"A small company president, keeping a pretty boy on the side—he's got the looks, no doubt about it. If you see him, you'll definitely be satisfied. The best part is, he doesn't have much of a background, so he's easy to handle," Samir said, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
"If you manage to get him, it would be the perfect way to celebrate your takeover of 'Heaven on Earth,' haha!"
Elliot laughed heartily. He understood that the type of people you dealt with often reflected their appearances.
"Brother, I love that about you," Elliot replied with a grin.
After a bit more conversation, Samir finally left to return to his private booth. At that moment, Nora Mills had just come back.Seeing Samir enter, she curiously asked, "Samir, where did you go?"
A shadow flickered in Samir's eyes upon seeing Nora, but he quickly put on a smile. "I just passed by the restroom and took a quick trip."
"What's going on with Chasel Mills?" Samir asked with concern.
Let's not talk about him; am not in the mood," Nora replied, her tone a bit off.
"He's still your brother, after all. We can't just watch him go down the wrong path, can we?" Samir said earnestly. "How about this, Nora? Let's go get him Chasel's well-being made her feel a twinge of guilt. At the same time, a sense of happiness began to blossom within her. She had indeed not misjudged him.
Comparing the current Chasel Mills to Samir only deepened her disappointment.
"Alright, I'll go with your suggestion," Nora sighed and nodded. She thought about how heartbroken her father would be if he found out about Chasel's reckless behavior. Nora believed that if she could steer Chasel back onto the right path, it would be for everyone's good.
With that, the two of them headed to the private room where Chasel and his friends were. They pushed the door open.
Inside, Belle was happily bouncing around, holding a microphone and singing a children's song. When she saw the two newcomers, she immediately stopped singing, and Michelle Allen followed suit, pausing the music as well.
"Hey, sis, who are you looking for?"
Belle sweetly asked Nora Mills, completely ignoring Samir.
From the moment she saw Samir, she just didn't like him.
"I'm looking for your... dad!" Nora Mills replied, feeling a bit awkward.
Samir simply greeted Michelle Allen with a nod.
Chasel Mills frowned slightly, stood up, and walked toward the two. "If you have something to discuss, let's step outside!"
With that, he headed for the door.
"Is there something going on?" Chasel asked casually.
"Let's talk in our private booth. I also want to apologize for my earlier rudeness," Samir suggested.
"No need for that!" Chasel said, his gaze dropping as he looked at Samir, his tone indifferent.
"You really don't know what's good for you!" Nora Mills's face turned slightly cold.
"Since you don't want to go to the booth, how about we sit in the main hall instead?" Samir said again. "Nora is wearing high heels, and I worry she might get tired standing here."
As he spoke, Samir looked at Nora with genuine concern, which made her feel a bit touched.
Chasel Mills glanced at Nora Mills. If it were any other woman, he would have made her disappear from his sight long ago. But this was Nora Mills.
With a sigh in his heart, Chasel took the lead and walked toward the hall. Step by step, his strides were steady and confident. His tall figure and broad shoulders made him look imposing.Watching Chasel's back, Samir's eyes flashed with a hint of malice.
"Let's get to the point. What do you want?" Chasel Mills said coolly as he found a seat in the hall.
"Nora Mills," she shot back, her anger boiling over. "What gives you the audacity to act so superior, as if the whole world is beneath you?"
Nora glared at Chasel, frustration bubbling inside her. It was clearly Chasel's fault, yet Samir had apologized to him, and here he was, still wearing that arrogant expression.
