Chapter 47 - Sea Barrage

After eating, Karina was fully stuffed. Her cheeks were puffed out slightly as she tried to finish the last few bites, but in the end, she gave up and leaned back with a satisfied sigh. The food was extremely delicious—it was her first time eating a real meal like that, and it showed in the sparkle in her eyes.

Before long, she drifted off again, this time falling asleep while clinging to me like a little koala. I smiled gently, looking down at her adorable, peaceful face. Her breathing was steady, and her fingers lightly curled around the fabric of my shirt.

This little girl had gone through so much… and yet she still found comfort by my side. It was a strange feeling—this quiet sense of responsibility that settled in my chest. I brushed a strand of hair from her face and adjusted her slightly, laying her down on the bed and covering her with a light blanket.

Then, carefully, I slipped out of her embrace.

There was something I needed to do.
