Genevieve's lips parted slightly in surprise. "Really? But why would anyone…" She trailed off, catching herself before she voiced the full thought. This wasn't why they were here. If she showed discomfort at being here, the men might piece together her true reason for asking to come here and decide to leave.
Swallowing her hesitation, she squared her shoulders and met his gaze.
"It's beautiful. Can we go in?"
"Not without your mask," he replied, nodding toward Alejandro. "Get her dress from the car and come with us."
The next few minutes passed in a blur. They moved through the entrance, where masks were handed to them. Genevieve received an intricate golden one that covered the upper half of her face, stopping just above her nose. Alejandro, on the other hand, begrudgingly accepted a silver mask that covered the left side of his face, muttering about how pointless it was since he came here regularly without wearing one.
