Chapter 44 - Hubert and Julia

A few hours ago, General Bobby and the leader of The Union had a discussion about the Zombies War.

General Bobby was in his tent when his boss called him through a radio. He greeted his boss, Commander Darius.

Commander Darius questioned if he was ready for the mission. He noted that a lot was at stake.

General Bobby answered that his army would never let them down.

Commander Darius emphasized that the war needed to end with every zombie general, especially Zombie King and Zombie Queen, dead. He urged him to end the war, so they could restore Stribora's control. He reminded him that Stribora was in a fragile state after shutting down the energy factories.

General Bobby reassured that the zombies would die.

Commander Darius expressed that he trusted him. He thanked his assistant for the cigar and chuckled.

General Bobby sighed and inquired if something else was going on at The Capital.

Commander Darius divulged that there were some problems with a member of The Union. He coughed and muttered Claudius. He asserted that they were depending on General Bobby to win the war.

General Bobby understood and replied that it would be handled.

Currently, General Bobby lamented the loss of his old friend. As he glanced at his surroundings, he recognized that his army never made it to safety.

The zombies chewed on the corpses, and the corpses became zombies.

The strongest army of humanity seemed to be eradicated.

Just then, General Bobby noticed a functioning helicopter nearby.

However, a zombie grasped his foot.

General Bobby kicked the zombie, tumbling it. He grabbed his hat and fixed it. He limped towards the helicopter.

The zombies lunged towards him.

General Bobby shot the zombies and entered the helicopter.

Zombies jumped on the helicopter as its blades spun.

Fortunately, the blades quickly stopped them from doing much.

Thus, General Bobby rose into the air and towards the broken ceiling. As he rose, he was surprised when he noticed some of his soldiers were alive in the outskirts of the corpses. He descended towards them as they sacrificed themselves for each other.

On the way, he saw Zombie King's final memories. Memories only known to a few...

After Stribora's War for Unification, Hubert returned to his lab. He was distraught and miserable. His inventions had taken many innocent lives and destroyed countless countries. He felt immense guilt and regret.

Even so, Claudius, a member of The Union, offered him a huge amount of money to return.

Hubert replied that he had to think about it some more.

During the night, he decided to take a walk through Sillisos City. He wore a disguise.

Stribora had eight dominions, and Sillisos City was the biggest city of the dominion that Hubert lived in. It was also the safest city from any monsters in the dominion.

Hubert walked into a busy street and passed many civilians who celebrated their victory. He noticed the joyous and smiling faces of the civilians. He was alarmed when people seemed to recognize him. He lowered his head and turned to the next street.

Hubert walked down a quieter alley and passed by a building. He glanced at his reflection in a window. He paused. He examined himself closer, and he felt disgusted. He muttered that he hated what he had become.

His eyes narrowed, and his eyebrows furrowed.

In the reflection, he saw a shooting star. He turned around and stared at the sky. He was mesmerized, and his eyes widened.

It was a clear night with the moon and stars in the sky. A bright shooting star pierced through it. Different lights emanated from it.

Hubert closed his eyes and made a wish.

Suddenly, a woman appeared next to him. She wore cloak with a unique design of an eye. Her long silver hair flowed down her back. She had red eyes.

Hubert and the woman stared at the sky, together.

The woman muttered that it was a nice night to see a shooting star.

Hubert was startled.

The woman apologized and inquired if she scared him.

Hubert stuttered, and he was stunned by her beauty. He had never seen anyone like her. He composed himself and answered that he was fine. He introduced himself as Hubert. He asked who she was.

The woman smiled and replied that she was Julia. She blinked and wondered what Hubert was doing in a lonesome alleyway.

Hubert was baffled that she did not recognize him. He explained that he was hiding from the crowds.

Julia raised an eyebrow and chuckled. She commented that he was strange. She inquired if he was not supposed to celebrate with the others.

Hubert lowered his head and muttered that he was not in the mood.

Julia was curious, but she decided that Hubert did not have to explain.

After a moment of silence, Hubert wanted to know if Julia was from around there.

Julia claimed that she was from a small town, far away. She added that she moved to the city, recently.

Hubert understood, and he felt a connection with her. In his head, he wondered if he could see her again. He blushed.

Julia nervously smiled and looked away. She bid him goodnight and muttered that she should get going. She turned and walked out of the alley.

Hubert hesitantly urged her to wait.

Julia stopped and smirked. She motioned him to follow her.

Hubert raised an eyebrow and obliged.

Julia led him to a small field with a view of the city.

The city lights illuminated the night. Giant walls surrounded the city, covering many of the buildings.

Hubert was confounded. He panted and tried to catch his breath.

They had gone past the walls, and they were now in danger of any monsters nearby.

Hubert inquired where they were. He interrogated why they were outside the walls.

Julia sat down and admired the view. She replied that she had discovered the field during one of her walks. She encouraged him to sit next to her.

Hubert reluctantly sat beside her and scanned the area. He was astonished that she had done this before.

Julia asked if something was wrong. She wondered if the view was bad.

Hubert shook his head and assured that the view was great. He admitted that there were many monsters outside the walls. He added that he was a little scared.

Julia patted his shoulder and reassured that they would be fine.

Hubert's eyes widened. He questioned if she was not scared.

Julia answered that she was not. Her eyes were filled with confidence.

Hubert smiled and felt a sense of security. He trusted her even though they just met, and his shoulders relaxed. With the view, he felt what seemed like peace. He had never experienced such a beautiful feeling.

All of a sudden, Julia got up and turned around.

Hubert was surprised, and he looked at her.

A centipede monster snarled behind them.

Hubert exclaimed that it was a jumbopede.

Julia cautioned him to stay there. Her cloak and hair fluttered in an intense breeze. She faced the jumbopede with determination.
