Kenta smiled, clearly impressed.
"Two minutes is more than enough if you know how to use it. No Pulse comes without limitations. It's all about working around them."
He tapped the armrest, thoughtful.
"Two minutes of continuous lift? That's a powerful tool. She could've used it to reposition, pressure her opponent, or even end the fight early."
He glanced around the group.
"Take Enhancement-type Pulse users, for example. They have a burst window a short timeframe where their body operates beyond its limits. After that, either the Pulse shuts down… or the body starts to break."
He looked back at the screen.
"She played it safe. Too safe. And in this arena? Playing it safe is how you lose."
Gin looked between them, eyebrows furrowed.
"Wait so, Mr. Kenta… how many Pulse types are there exactly? I think I'm starting to get it. It's more about how the energy flows, right?"
Kenta nodded.
"Exactly. That's the best way to think about it more about function than biology."
He reached into his coat and pulled out a slim datapad, surprisingly prepared even at a casual match.
"I usually bring this to record fights for my nephew's son. He loves MPAs."
With a few taps, a glowing six-part diagram hovered in the air visible to the group, softly pulsing.
PULSE TYPES
Enhancement – Body-focused. Amplifies physical abilities.
Control / Emission – Releases and guides energy/substances. Function: Controlling internal or external forces, including ranged attacks.Great for ranged or terrain-based tactics.
Transmutation – Changes the user's body or energy into something else. Like turning limbs into stone, gas or animals .
Manifestation —Manifesters create things — not permanent, not living, but real enough for a moment."
Possession – This is the most unique. Users anchor their power to an object or ritual. It becomes their catalyst."
Healing – A rare but essential ability that restores damaged tissue, neutralizes toxins, and stabilizes vital functions. Can be used on oneself, others, or both, depending on the user's mastery.
The cloaked girl raised her hand slightly, like a student.
"And you said this is all based on how the Pulse settles?"
Kenta nodded again.
"Pulse isn't just power, it's alive, in a way. Think of it like a second nervous system made of supercells, but smarter. It adapts. Learns . Grows based on how you live, train, and fight."
He tapped the side of his head.
"A reckless fighter, always lashing out, might awaken with Emission tendencies pushing energy outward, never holding back. But someone grounded, disciplined, someone who sharpens their body like a blade? Their Pulse leans toward Enhancement."
Gin asked, grinning.
"What about you, Mr Kenta? What's yours?"
Kenta smirked.
"I'm classified as an Enhancement-Type. Back in the day, I could lift more than most trucks."
He flexed half-heartedly, then shrugged.
"But age has a way of teaching moderation. These days, I'm lucky if I can lift my nephews' kids without pulling something."
They all chuckled.
Kenta flicked his fingers across the holographic screen, bringing up six glowing categories of Pulse classification.
The others gathered around. Even the cloaked girl leaned in, her interest no longer subtle.
Kenta began, voice calm but focused.
"There are six known Pulse types. Every fighter every Pulse user falls into one, or a blend of them. Some say more will emerge, but these are the ones we've documented so far."
1. Enhancement
He tapped the first symbol: a simple human figure, arms extended, energy coursing through it.
"Enhancement is the foundation. It upgrades your body your vision, your strength, how far you can leap, how fast you react. Everything stays human. Just… better."
Iwaizumi blinked. "I see? Just muscle stuff?"
Kenta smirked. "Right. No fire or energy blast. But good luck dodging a punch from an Enhancer once they've trained properly. They're pure instinct and efficiency."
2. Emission / Control
Kenta flicked to the next symbol: a figure sending waves outward.
"Emission and Control types manipulate internal or external forces. Some launch shockwaves, others shape gravity fields or fire projectiles. Some even command elements heat, electricity, or kinetic pressure. This category handles range, area control, and versatility."
Tabaki's eyes lit up.
"Wait, sometimes I can push heat out through my hands. If I focus, it happens. And sometimes it just sparks on its own. I've even made actual flames."
Kenta turned to him.
"That's Emission, definitely. Your body's acting as a medium pulling out stored energy and releasing it. If the fire's becoming more consistent, and you can guide it with intent... then you're refining into a Control-Emission type."
Iwazumi chimed in, raising a brow. "So the more precise the ability, the more Control-type it leans?"
Kenta nodded. "Exactly. Wild and raw? Emission. Precision and shaping? Control. Some people have a balance both."
3. Transmutation
Next came a symbol of a shifting figure half stone, half smoke.
"Transmutation lets the user change parts of their body or their energy into something else. You've seen fighters turn their skin to metal, stretch like rubber, or even mimic animals."
Gin made a face. "So they're like shapeshifters?"
"In a way," Kenta said. "But it's not always exact. For some, it's never perfect you're not becoming the thing, just mimicking part of it. For others, the change is seamless, even permanent. Some can hold it only for moments."
He paused, tapping his temple.
"You're replicating a trait through Pulse not the full form. And that difference matters."
The cloaked girl spoke softly.
"Do they feel pain when they change?"
Kenta gave her a respectful glance.
"That's a good question. From what I've seen, it's usually seamless. No signs of pain, just instinct kicking in and the body responding."
4. Kenta pointed to another on the display again.
The display shimmered this time showing a lone figure holding a glowing object in one hand, with fine lines vapor-trailing from its back and arms, like heat or mist. The object in its palm flickered between a blade, a shield, and a chain never quite stable, yet clearly willed into shape.
"Manifestation," Kenta said, tapping the projection. "One of the rarest but most creative Pulse types."
He looked at the group, making sure they were following.
"These users don't just fight they craft. Not with aura or magic, but with something more primal. Their own bodies."
Gin leaned in, curious. "Wait, so… what are they crafting with?"
Kenta smirked.
"Signal compounds. The Pulse gene rewires parts of the body especially the apocrine glands. Instead of just releasing sweat or pheromones, the body emits chemical signal waves mist, oil, vapor. Invisible to most, but reactive to intent."
He gestured to the figure in the display.
"That glow you see? That's not energy. That's a chemical field the user's instinct made physical. Some Manifestation types use it to create tools, weapons, barriers… even illusions."
Gin whistled. "So they're like conjurers?"
Kenta shrugged.
"Sort of. But they don't summon from nothing. They shape what their own biology produces. They sculpt from within using evaporated mist like clay."
Tabaki raised a hand, frowning. "Can they create, like… real life?"
The mood dipped. Kenta's smile vanished.
"No. Nothing sentient. That's the limit."
"Anything too real, anything that tries to mimic life starts to break the user. Mentally. Physically. The boundary exists for a reason."
He let the silence settle before continuing.
"Manifestation demands will. Purpose. Without that, the signal turns wild. And when instinct goes wild…"
He also added letting the warning hang in the air.
"No, real life. Nothing sentient. Anything too real… breaks the user. That boundary exists for a reason."
5. Healing
The symbol now showed a pulse wave circling back to the center.
"Healers are rare. Their Pulse restores tissue, neutralizes toxins, sometimes even calms nerves. Some focus only on themselves. Others can heal others."
Iwazumi scoffed. "That sounds broken."
"It's not," Kenta replied flatly. "Healing takes time, energy, and extreme focus. In a real fight, it's more of a delay tactic than a win condition."
6. The final icon shimmered into view—
A figure stood tall, one hand gripping a glowing sword. From their body, a single thread of vapor-light trailed into the weapon, pulsing faintly like a heartbeat.
"Possession Style," Kenta said. "One of the most misunderstood, but also one of the most dangerous Pulse types."
Gin raised an eyebrow. "Why is it dangerous?"
Kenta pointed to the thread.
"Their power doesn't just use an object—it's bonded to it. Sword, ring, mask, even something consumed like an herb or drink. The signal compounds released by their body don't spread outward like other types. They're channeled, tightly and exclusively, into something external."
The cloaked girl tilted her head. "So… their ability's conditional?"
Kenta nodded.
"Yes. Their Pulse is basically dormant unless the bonded object is nearby. But that condition becomes a strength. The more personalized or symbolic the item, the more precise the signal link, and the more devastating the result."
He continued, voice low but firm.
"Possession users often train with one item their entire lives. They anchor their instincts, emotions, even memories into it. Over time, their signal compound evolves to only respond through that conduit."
Gin frowned. "What if they lose it?"
Kenta didn't blink.
"Then they better get it back. Or they're done."
Tabaki exhaled, eyebrows raised. "Man… and here I thought Pulse was just 'punch good, explode sometimes.'"
Kenta chuckled. "Most people don't even know what type they are. The smart ones? They figure it out, and build around it."
The cloaked girl glanced toward the arena. "So… what's next?"
