When the knock came, I honestly thought it was Isaac, Leo, and August again coming to plead their case one more time, trying to convince me to keep my job.
Ever since that day, the very same day Ashen responded to my CEO, I hadn't wanted to stay silent about it. I couldn't. So I called Smith, explained that what happened wasn't my doing.
And as much as he sounded pleased I had called, maybe expecting I was reaching out to reconcile or smooth things over, that wasn't my intention.
I didn't call to apologize or give him the answer he expected, I called to officially quit.
After the topic of quitting the job had been brought up, I realized just how necessary it was.
Being honest with myself, I felt uncomfortable every time I sat across from my boss in a meeting.
The way his eyes latched onto me made my skin crawl, like he was trying to read more into me than just work-related things.
