Chapter 28 - Chapter 28

Nightfall came as the group sat around a bonfire, smoking, drinking, and toasting marshmallows. Ivaander didn't smoke, nor did Kaylee, as they passed around the blunt.

"When da fuck did you stop smoking?" Mark stated, pointing towards Kaylee.

Kaylee looked over at him, seeing his eyes red, as she looked down at him a bit and shook her head at his non-sober expression.

"I stopped … recently… I just— I don't know, I don't like it anymore, I guess."

"Daaaamnnn- you missing out, G," Justin stated as he puffed the blunt, all while giving it over towards Tiffany.

"And you?" Mark said, pointing over towards Ivaander as he sat on the log, a distance away from everyone else.

"….I never smoked." Ivaander simply remarked.

"What?! Never!" Tiffany said, stunned.

"Fucking sap." Bradley chimed in to say, as Tiffany laughed a bit and playfully hit him.

Kaylee glanced over at Ivaander to the right as he glanced back at her, as the two of them continued to listen to the group.

"Man— hit this wine then at least.. I mean shit you drink?!" Justin said, grabbing the bottle of whiskey and showing it to Ivaander.

Ivaander chuckled a bit and shook his head.

"I do, but I am particular about what I drink."

Kaylee, hearing those words, couldn't help but feel a chill go up her spine. The memories about what she had researched came back into her brain.

Swarming her like a nightmare, as the commotion between the group continued. She was lost in her thoughts as she felt a scream in her memory. Her voice, with that man, and then seeing the words dial between her subconscious and her eyes with blood and demonic entities.

Kaylee quickly rose to her feet, in shock and panic, as the group was laughing at something they were all discussing before seeing Kaylee jolt up. They're expression turned either into confusion or concern before Justin would speak first.

"Aye? Kay? You alright?" He would question.

Kaylee looked down at him before shifting her eyes between everyone and Ivaander, as Ivaander looked with a stone expression. It was at this moment, with all eyes on her, that she felt her swelling up with tears.

She needed to leave briefly, as she swiftly put the blanket she had on her lap down, and talked as she stumbled over things to leave the area. "I uh-Im sorry, I just-i need some air…" Kaylee told them as she rushed off into the woods.

"That bitch trippin….haha- that man fucked her mind up real good" Bradely remarked aloud without a care in the world, before Justin got up without a second thought and punched Bradley in the face. Ivaander had taken notice of what Bradley said as well, but before he could react, Justin did.

He was grateful for Justin intervening as he didn't want to harm Bradley himself, and do something he'd regret doing later on. Mark was stunned as he jolted up quickly, as Bradley and Justin began to fight around the bonfire, as Tiffany was screaming and shouting at the two of them to stop.

With all this commotion ongoing, Kaylee could hear them from a faraway distance, before those sounds started to become quieter and quieter to her. It wasn't long before she couldn't hear it anymore, and in an instant, she missed a step and slid down a hillside.

Her screams could be heard on the island, as she slid down the slightly dirty and mug slide. Grunting a bit from the pain, as she couldn't help but cry as she lay there.

She didn't know why this was happening to her, as she could only assume she just felt overwhelmed and conflicted. She lay there for a moment or two before slowly rising to at least sit up.

Softly, she continued to cry before she heard rattling in the trees and woods around her. Her sniffing started to seize, as she wiped her eyes a bit from her tears.

Still a bit lost and too deep in though,t she didn't take the noises seriously, as she sighed and realized she could hear the waves of the ocean nearby.

Eventually, she started to get up as she looked down and saw that her shorts were dirty. Starting to dust them off, as she heard the noise again, and what sounded like small growls.

Kaylee, feeling like her heart was now speeding up, stared into the darkness, all while taking small steps backwards. She didn't know what she was hearing, but it didn't sound friendly.

The growls soon got louder as she saw piercing, sharp yellow eyes staring at her. Kaylee froze up and looked at the creature, as its razor-sharp fangs were the first thing she noticed.

Kaylee, standing in fear as she watched the animal come out of the shadows and stare her down like prey. At that moment, she didn't know whether to run, stand her ground, or scream.

She only thought that she would have some wild animal lunch. She also didn't assume that animals would be lurking on this island either.

How dangerous was this place exactly? Without another second, the animal didn't even bother to wait for her to make the first move, as it lunged towards her.

Kaylee screamed in terror and quickly turned heel and ran towards the ocean. The ferocious beast quickly followed her as Kaylee ducked, climbed, leaped, and jumped over trees, branches, and bushes.

Continuously screaming for someone to help her as she tripped over a branch on the ground. Immediately, she fell to the ground as the animal leaped once again towards her.

Kaylee, screaming to the top of her lungs, as without a flash, Ivaander leaped out of the woods and attacked the animal.

The animal was stunned as it tried to attack Ivaander, as it scratched him in the arm with its long claws. Ivaander hissed as his fangs formed out of his mouth.

His sharp, narrow, bloodshot red eyes, wrestling with the beast before wrapping his arms around the head of it, and gripping it tightly around its neck. Without a second thought, Ivaander snapped its neck like a cold-blooded man.

Kaylee stared in horror, shock, and utter terror as she looked at him and the animal. The creature lay lifeless beside him, as Ivaander was breathing heavily, a bit before he looked down at his arm.

The blood dripped down on his right hand, down to his fingertips, which he didn't think to if anyone had watched him. It wasn't long before Kaylee slowly rose to her feet, but couldn't move as she watched Ivaander from behind.

Although it was dark on the island, the sun was simply setting and was about to go down, which Kaylee could still see clearly of what transpired. Ivaander shifted his body a bit as his red eyes looked back at Kaylee.

Kaylee sighed with a bit of air as what she had feared was a reality. In the end, she was right about everything— and it finally registered with Ivaander what he had done in front of her.

Ivaander, briefly looking down a bit before, within a flash, he dashed away towards the ocean. Kaylee was stunned by his speed, as she tried to catch her breath and shock in her body.

Without a second thought, Kaylee quickly tried to follow him down by the shoreline, as she didn't want to let him get away this time. Tears falling down her eyes, but not from disappointment, it would seem, but in awe.

Kaylee quickly pursued him, hoping that they would be able to talk this time, without any interference.
