Axton came to the hospital with his wife to visit Haisley. Inside the recovery room, his wife was chatting warmly with Haisley, asking how she was doing and telling light-hearted stories to lift her mood.
Meanwhile, Axton stood on the other side of the room with Lucas, who was sitting near the window. Lucas's gaze was fixed outside, watching the late afternoon sky turn golden, but his words were directed at Axton.
"Why didn't you tell me about your plan?" he asked softly, still without turning his head.
"Just to be safe. So it wouldn't get exposed," Axton replied calmly, as if it were the most reasonable decision in the world.
Lucas frowned, his tone rising. "But you should've told me. You made me fall asleep just like that!"
Axton nodded slowly. "I'm sorry. But like I said, it was for your safety. Too many people knowing, even you would've been too risky. If it leaked, everything could've fallen apart."
