Chapter 13 - Battle against the gargoyles

The numerous gargoyles shifted and contorted their bodies as if they were stretching after an exceptionally long time spent immobile and unmoving.

There were a total of 12 of them along with around 36 smaller moving statues that resembled cherubs, people and even a few dragons.

The 29 youths braced themselves as the gargoyles and statues jumped and flew off their pedestals and decorations.

The gargoyles were each 3 metres tall with robust bodies and barrel like chests. They possessed crimson gemstones for eyes which Ren could sense were magical. They possessed long slender limbs and wielded halberds.

The smaller statues were of varying heights with the cherubs being 40 cm tall with a 30 cm wing span. The people statues possessed all manner of shape and sizes but averaged around 1.6 metres. The stone dragons were 2 metres long and 1 metre tall. They all had crimson jewels for eyes.

The small statues were a fair bit weaker then the gargoyles and Ren felt that that the gargoyles were a tiny bit weaker then the dryad.Ren knew he could take them but perhaps not all of the gargoyles at once. For this he was grateful for his entire group being there.

Raphael began the battle before everyone else and even before most of the statues made contact with the ground.Ren watched as his friend dissappeared from his prior position.

Ren looked around to see that some statues had already been destroyed. The gargoyles wielded their halberds with incredible strengh and dexterity as they charged forward toward the unseen interloper who broke some of the statues.Raphael noticed their arrival and accepted their challenge.

The cherubs wielded small bows and arrows whilst the people statues wielded their bare hands. The dragons were almost as strong as the gargoyles and could breathe crimson fire.None of this mattered however as Rapahael was there.

Raphael clearly hadn't taken out his new sword yet as the gargoyles and small statues were unworthy to face him when he was serious. He simply struck the statues with his fists.

It had to be said that there were five people stronger then Ren within the group including Raphael himself. These five people simply outclassed Ren in every way and they were all mages who were using their spells instead of their martial arts like Ren was.Yet even those four couldn't properly keep track of Raphael.

One of the gargoyles was shattered instantly with a single punch. The other gargoyles were taken aback by this but simply entered a gaurd like stance and appeared to use magic to harden themselves. This only happened after three more gargoyles fell in battle.

As for the remaining gargoyles Raphael simply punched them and that was enough. He didn't just punch them though he also slapped, used palm strikes, spear hands and karate chops.

The gargoyles appeared to be more durable then reinforced concrete in base form and even more durable when using the spell that hardens themselves. That clearly wasn't enough however as Raphael simply punched harder.

"This is...unreal" Ren stuttered out those words without thinking and earned some sympathetic looks. The other 28 people in the group didn't even have to do anything.

Ren felt a sense of defeat at witnessing his friends power and passion in battle. So what if he reached the same level. Its not like Raphael was going to stay at the same level forever especially with his passion.

"If only I had trained harder in those earlier years perhaps then I could call him an equal." Ren thought to himself however he doubted it.

Sure he had gotten into the grind with training his mana and body but Raphael enjoyed it far more. Not to mention he was born with talent and worked hard with it since its early life.

At the end of those thoughts Ren saw that Raphael had finished off most of the statues and wouldn't take long to finish off the rest.

Once Raphael was done and the last of the statues had dissipated into smoke and dropped loot he picked up some drop weapons and put them in his bag.

Ren didn't bother to check the loot as it was mostly crimson gemstones and rocky debris. There were also mini gargoyles which Ren could guess the purpose of.The gemstones and debris likely had a purpose but Ren knew they couldn't serve his interests.

Raphael seemed to notice his mood and came to comfort him but stopped once he saw that Rens eyes had a new glimmer in them.

Ren knew he had the capacity to create and tailor new spells which Raphael wasn't interested in.Perhaps he could walk a different path then Raphael altogether when they went on their journeys together.

"You should leave some for us next time Raphael. We might get bored otherwise." Kasper said as he was putting the gemstones and debris in his bag.
