A whole week had passed since Jin was discharged from the hospital.
He had been living quietly with Officer Kai,
slowly adjusting, though he still didn't speak,
but his features had begun to soften,
as if a sense of safety had finally settled within him.
On a cloudy morning,
the DNA test results arrived.
Kai read the paper with widened eyes,
then slowly stood up,
his face filled with shock and anger.
The name written was clear, undeniable:
"Biological Father: Yoonjin Hwang."
Yoonjin?
The famous businessman,
a man of influence, wealth, and fame—
and... forgetfulness.
He had forgotten he even had a child.
He hadn't asked, hadn't searched, hadn't cared.
Kai closed the document sharply,
and before he could tell Jin the truth,
he hesitated.
He was afraid—
afraid of breaking the boy's heart,
afraid Jin might reject his father,
or worse, that the father might reject the boy.
So, he decided to go himself
to that luxurious mansion
where Yoonjin lived,
to speak with him face to face.
Kai reached the large front gate
and rang the bell calmly.
Moments later, the maid opened the door.
She looked at him curiously, so he pulled out his badge
and held it up for her to see.
"I'm Detective Kai from Seoul Police.
I need to speak with Mr. Yoonjin. It's a personal matter."
The maid hesitated for a second, then bowed slightly.
"Just a moment."
She disappeared into the house
and went straight to the large office where Yoonjin was seated.
Leaning in close, she whispered:
"Sir... there's a police officer here. He says it's something personal."
Yoonjin raised an eyebrow, surprised.
"The police? Why? I haven't done anything."
Then he gestured with his hand:
"Let him in... to my private room."
Kai entered quietly,
standing in the middle of the room in front of a man in his mid-forties,
handsome, well-dressed, seated behind a massive black wooden desk.
Yoonjin looked at him and said:
"Welcome. What can I do for you?"
Kai sat in the chair opposite him,
then pulled out the test result and placed it on the desk.
In a calm voice, he said:
"Mr. Yoonjin... these are the DNA results
for a boy named Jin...
and you... are the father."
Yoonjin froze.
His eyes darted between Kai and the paper.
"What? I'm... a father?"
He said it in pure disbelief.
"Impossible... Who's the mother?"
Kai answered:
"Her name was Lee Dain. She passed away six years ago.
His grandmother just passed a week ago.
The boy... has no one left."
Yoonjin stared silently at the report,
then whispered to himself:
"Dain... that girl... she worked with me years ago…"
He paused.
Then looked up at Kai and asked:
"Where is he now?"
Kai exhaled slowly and replied:
"He's under my care, but I don't have the legal right to keep him.
As his biological father, you have priority by law.
But it must be your decision."
Yoonjin stood up slowly,
then said:
"Yes... I'll bring him here.
He's my son. I'll take care of him."
Kai nodded,
then stood and prepared to leave.
"I'll handle the paperwork... he'll be here within days."
Kai exited the room,
his eyes fixed on the grand front door.
Moments after Kai left,
Yoonjin's voice roared through the mansion:
"LIIIIILYYYY!!!"
It was a loud, furious shout
that echoed through every corner of the house.
His wife came running,
entered the room, and slammed the door shut.
"What now? Why are you yelling?"
He waved the paper in her face and shouted:
"My son! I have a son! And you never told me anything!"
She looked at him in shock,
then said coldly:
"Your son? From who?"
He yelled:
"From Dain! That girl who used to work here!
Did you hide this from me?"
Lily snapped back:
"I didn't even know she was pregnant, you idiot!
I thought she disappeared from your life forever!
I didn't think she left you anything!"
Yoonjin slammed his hand on the desk and shouted:
"You should have known!
You should've suspected something! Followed up!
You should've told me immediately!"
Lily stepped closer, her voice dripping with sarcasm:
"And why?
You already have a son, Yoonjin!
Lee Minhyo!
Or did you forget about him? Planning to replace him now?"
He shouted:
"I never said that!
But Jin is also my son!
They're both mine!
I won't abandon either of them!"
"And now what?
You'll let him live here?
With me? With Minhyo?
Let him walk into this mansion and take a place that's not his?"
"No one is taking anyone's place!
I make the decisions here, not you!
Jin will live here,
and he'll have his own room, name, and rights."
Lily grew furious,
she kicked a chair aside and shouted:
"I won't let you destroy this family over some unknown child!"
"He's not unknown!
He's my son!
The son of a woman who maybe didn't tell me—
but wasn't a bad woman.
And I'm not ashamed of him."
"You're insane!
You've lost your mind!
He's not staying here!"
"You don't get a say!
I make the decisions here!
Jin is coming—
and I will be a father to him,
as I should've been all along."
Yoonjin stormed out of the room,
his rage still shaking the walls of the mansion.
And in his eyes…
a determination never seen before.
His son... will come.
And no one
would stop him
from being
his father
