Chapter 2 - Beginning

In the heart of the city, there's a decent college I managed to get into. It's not one of those "top-tier elite" institutions, but it has a good name. I was satisfied with it — mostly because it didn't put too much financial stress on my parents. They already have to cover my fees, rent, and food. I've been thinking of getting a part-time job to earn a bit for myself... but that could wait.

6:00 AM — my alarm clock went off.

Waking up early is never easy when you're not used to it. Today's the freshmen ceremony — scheduled for 9:30 AM — and I really couldn't afford to be late. Problem was, I still had tons of stuff to unpack.

> "Ahhh, what do I do now? I've got so much to do, but I have to go to college too... Let's just get ready."

Physically, I guess I was average — not too skinny, not too bulky. People often said I had a "balanced" build, but that didn't mean I had muscles or anything. Whatever. I brushed my teeth, washed my face, and used some moisturizer. I didn't know much about skincare, but I picked up a few things here and there.

> "Ah, crap... I forgot to make breakfast. And there's no time now — it's already 9:00 AM!"

Why was I leaving so early, you ask? Fitness. A-and... to save money. Yeah. That too. I walked ten minutes to the bus station. Most days, the bus is full — and, like today, I had to stand the whole way.

> "Sigh... my luck, huh."

I arrived just in time for the opening ceremony. The usual boring speeches from teachers followed. After that, we only had homeroom — a chance to get to know each other.

> "Hmm... what should I do now? Should I go up to someone and try to be their friend...? Or just wait and see if someone talks to me first? Honestly... I don't know."

Inner thoughts:

> I don't really know how city friendships work. Mom was right — it's tough out here.

> "Um… excuse me, is this seat taken? Can I sit here?"
