Cherreads

Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

The rain hadn't stopped when I arrived at my tiny rented room. The door creaked softly as I shut it behind me. The same old smell of damp walls and peeling paint greeted me like always. This room—with its thin mattress, wobbly desk, and cracked window—was the only place I could call home.

I sat on the edge of the bed. Slowly, I peeled off my black gloves. My fingers trembled slightly.

Blood.

Not on my hands. Not on my clothes. But in my mind.

I had just taken someone's life.

I stared at my palm for a long time. Cold. Empty. No pride. No guilt. Just silence.A silence deeper than any bullet wound.

Even though the Red Hood template had made me physically and mentally used to killing, my soul still shook.

Then, a holographic panel appeared.

[System Notification]Contract Complete.Reward: $15,000 has been added to your account.Underworld Rank: [Low-Class Hitman]

I stared at the number. $16,000 in total now.Enough to live for months.Enough to… roll the gacha.

But I knew this money had an invisible price. Something inside me had changed. And I wasn't sure I could ever go back—No!

I chose this path.

I took a deep breath.

I opened the window. The rain kissed my face. Somewhere in the distance, sirens cried.

After my first contract, my mind never truly settled. Even though I succeeded… something still gnawed inside me—something I couldn't name.

But one thing was clear. I needed more.

More strength.More speed.More ways to kill.

The System panel appeared again.

Gacha TemplateGacha SkillGacha Item

I lifted my hand and tapped on Gacha Template, but a new message popped up:

Template Gacha is only available every 14 days. Time remaining: 12 days, 22 hours, 15 minutes.

I sighed and switched to Gacha Skill.

Gacha Skill is available! Cost: $1,500Would you like to proceed?

I clenched my fist and prayed silently.

"Yes."

[Confirmed]

The wheel spun wildly on the screen. My heart thudded with each turn.

Then it stopped.

Congratulations! You've obtained Skill: Eagle Eye Lv.1 (Assassin's Creed Series)

"Eagle Eye? What's that?"In my previous life, I was too poor to play games. Every day was part-time work, and barely 5 hours of sleep. Gaming was a luxury I couldn't afford.

Skill: Eagle Eye Lv. 1

Allows the user to detect living beings through colored auras:

Red = Enemy

Blue = Ally

Yellow = Target

No color = Neutral

Duration: 10 seconds per activation

Cooldown: 2 minutes

Upgrade: $700

+X-Ray vision through walls

+10 seconds duration

I smiled slightly. It was a useful ability, especially for spotting targets in a crowd. Level 2 would be a total game changer.

I decided to try it right away.

"Eagle Eye. Activate."

The world turned gray, like I had gone colorblind. I looked out the window—people walking in the rain, unaware. None of them glowed. Just ordinary civilians.

Then my vision returned to normal.

Duration over.

A small smile formed on my lips. Not bad.

I returned to the system screen.

Now for Item Gacha.

Each spin costs $500. Anything could come out—junk, or game-changing gear.

I checked my balance: $14,500.

I whispered to myself, "$2,500. Five spins."

Click. Click. Click. Click. Click.

Five spins. Five breaths held.

Here's what I got:

Gacha Results:

Grapple Hook Gun (Batman: Arkham Series) Fires a cable with a hook to climb or escape. Max range: 10 meters.

Smoke Bomb x10 Creates a 4-meter cloud of smoke. Obstructs both the enemy and the user's vision.

Lipstick Taser (Despicable Me 2) A disguised taser that shocks enemies unconscious for 5–10 seconds.One-time use. Requires a battery for recharge. Not effective on armored enemies.

Shockwave Mine x15 Small EMP explosive that knocks enemies unconscious in a 3-meter radius. Can also disable electronics.

Night Vision Contact Lens x2 enables night vision in complete darkness.

None of it was overpowered. But all of it was useful.

I stored everything in my [Spatial Inventory]. 8 out of 10 slots now used.

A chill passed through my body. But my mind was clear.

I glanced at the rain again.

Then down at my balance.

$12,000

I smiled. "Time to move."

The Next Morning

The rain stopped as dawn broke. The sky over New York turned from gray to orange.

I sat inside a cheap taxi, watching the world blur past the foggy window. In my hand, a phone showed the address of my newly purchased apartment—Not fancy, but mine.

$6,000 for a small studio in a quiet part of town.Far from downtown noise.Far from people.Perfect for me.

The taxi stopped in front of a five-story building. Old paint. Sturdy walls. Not bad.

I paid in cash and walked up the narrow stairs.

Room 304.Manual key. No electronics.Perfect.

The air smelled of dust, but this room…This room was freedom.

I set up a tripwire on the window. Checked for hidden cameras.None.

Safe.

I opened my system to review inventory.

[Storage: 8/10]

Not bad… but not enough. I needed ammo. Disguises. Fake IDs.

Then, my burner phone buzzed.

A message.

"Broker wants to meet. High-value target. Face-to-face. Address: The Ashmore Club."

My eyes narrowed.

The Ashmore Club—where the elites go to hide their sins.

Night – The Ashmore Club

I wore a simple black suit. Clean, cheap.Just enough to blend in. I left most weapons behind. Clubs like this scan for metal.

No worries. I could kill without a gun.

Upstairs in the VIP lounge, cigar smoke filled the air. Crystal glasses clinked softly. The Broker sat alone in the shadows.

He handed me a photo.

A handsome man in a gray suit.A fake smile I'd seen all over social media.

Darren Blake.

I sipped cold water as I asked, "Who is he?"

The Broker replied, calm as always:

"Darren Blake. Young billionaire. CEO of NeuVisor, a military-grade AI startup. But behind closed doors... he's filth. Human trafficking. Illegal bioweapon tests. Recently sold U.S. military data to foreign buyers."

"CIA suspects him, but they can't touch him."

He tossed me a flash drive.

"A client lost his daughter two years ago. Last seen at one of Blake's secret labs."

I gripped the flash drive tightly.

Not pity. But a fire in my chest.

"$35,000 for a silent kill. Make it look like an accident? Bonus."

He added,

"Blake lives in a secure penthouse. Always surrounded by guards. Except here. He comes alone every week. No bodyguards."

I stood.

Before walking out, I said,

"Tomorrow night… you'll hear about his death."

The Broker gave a thin smile behind his dark glasses."Good."

Outside, the system panel reappeared.

My eyes sharpened.

Darren Blake…

You think you're safe. But I'm not something walls, cameras, or money can stop.
