The fierce woman and the crazy woman had, without prior agreement, aimed their spears at Viego.
But fortunately, a sound came to his rescue.
W's brow furrowed as she looked at the constantly trembling pebbles on the ground and the swaying campfire. "What's that sound?"
The ground was trembling slightly. It sounded like some colossal beast was advancing in the distance. Listening closely, it also sounded like the marching of a large army, the heavy tread of their iron boots on the ground. The wind blowing across this land brought with it an air of clamor.
"Something is approaching." Ines's expression was cold, but her golden pupils glowed faintly as she turned to look east. "The east. Many teams... It seems those are our employers. The real deal should be mixed in among them. They're being quite cautious."
W realized. "Sounds like a large force. It seems they've hired quite a few people. They're really rich and imposing."
"Heavily was right. The scale of this battle is unprecedented..." Ines glanced at W. "Ahead of us will be a battlefield the likes of which even we have never experienced."
W mocked her passive-aggressively, "Oh? Could it be that even the great Captain Ines, who dares to steal my person, is afraid?"
Ines sneered but didn't bother responding to W. She knew she couldn't win a war of words with W; continuing would only make her angrier. Anyway, Heavily had said Viego belonged to her team. If W really had the ability, she could go and ask Heavily for him herself. Can't get him? Then there's nothing to discuss!
Besides, Viego wouldn't be asking her a million questions all the time now. As long as he could keep quiet, it didn't matter if she kept him by her side.
—At least it would piss W off.
W looked to the east, then after a moment, turned back and glanced at Viego, saying to Ines, "Heavily should be arriving here with the main force, right? Have the messenger turn on the radio, let's see what his situation is."
Ines stared at W coldly. "Are you ordering me?"
"How would I dare?" W waved her hands with a smile. For some reason, it looked particularly passive-aggressive. "Then I'll have to trouble Captain Ines to continue guarding the campfire here, okay? I'll go check on the situation in the camp."
Ines didn't reply, just silently staring east.
W's gaze shifted to Viego. Viego looked at Ines, then at W, caught in a dilemma. One was his creditor, the other his boss. How was he supposed to choose?
Viego noticed that the smile on W's face was growing brighter and brighter.
In the next instant, Viego stood up, looked at Ines, and tentatively said, "I'll go with her…?"
Ines didn't look at him, just gave a faint, affirmative hum. "Mm."
Although W was a little annoyed that Viego had asked for Ines's opinion, on second thought, she was essentially kidnapping Ines's person right now, and her mood instantly improved.
"Captain Ines, I'll be borrowing 'your person,' okay?" W put heavy emphasis on the words "your person," deliberately provoking Ines.
Ines finally looked over, her expression cold. "You said it yourself, it's just a 'loan.' Remember to return him before rest time."
The smile on W's face froze. Ines had turned the tables on her!
W snorted coldly, grabbed Viego by his collar, and dragged him away. Viego sighed. What an undeserved disaster… You two don't get along, so why are you taking it out on me? If this keeps up, I'm going to have to start fighting for men's rights! This fist of mine from the 21st century, having gone through countless version updates, with twenty years of power, can you take it!
"You enjoyed the show quite a bit, didn't you, Viego?" W looked at Viego, her face full of smiles.
"W, stop smiling. I'm scared."
"Oh?" W raised an eyebrow, uninterestingly wiping the smile from her face and releasing her grip on Viego's collar. "You get scared so easily. Fine, I won't tease you anymore."
So you knew you were scaring me! This crazy woman has such clear self-awareness.
"Hey, Viego."
"What is it?" Viego looked at W. "Why is your tone so hesitant and shy, like a maiden? Don't tell me this is the part where you confess your feelings? Don't disgust me."
W sneered. "You really think highly of yourself, don't you? Who would miss a troublesome, perverted moron like you?"
"Then what do you want to say?"
"The mercenary group will officially enter the battlefield tomorrow. The next few days will be very dangerous. Even I have a high chance of dying there." W's tone was leisurely, showing no avoidance of discussing her own death. It was as natural as discussing what to eat for dinner. She glanced at Viego. "Try to stay alive, Viego. Otherwise, no one will be around to pay back the money you owe me."
"Oh, W, so you were concerned, worried about me?" Viego raised an eyebrow, deliberately using a greasy tone. "My dear Miss W, I never thought you were so…"
CRACK—
The sound of grinding bones echoed.
W, with a look of disgust, pinched Viego's face and said viciously, "I f*cking knew no ivory would come from a dog's mouth like yours. Viego, speak properly, don't disgust me, or I'll pull your tongue out!"
Viego nodded, and only then did W let go.
"Are all your mercenary threats so uniform? Ines threatened me just like that." Viego rubbed his face, making sure his jaw hadn't been crushed by this thoughtless, crazy woman.
"Hehe." W mocked, "I didn't expect her to leave such a deep impression on you in just two short days. You're thinking about her even when you're with me? To be honest, you really like her long, white, round legs, don't you?"
Viego frowned at W. "You're not W. Who are you? Where did you take W?"
W was stunned. "Viego, what the hell are you talking about?"
"The W I know would never speak in such a sour, jealous tone." Viego said with a straight face. "She would only threaten to castrate my…"
W smiled and flashed her dagger. "Oh? It seems you're not only a leg-fetishist pervert who likes to be stepped on, but also a masochist? I can fulfill your wish."
"Let me state again, I don't like being stepped on, I'm not a pervert, not a leg-fetishist, and certainly not a masochist."
"Oh? Is that so? Then how about I ask their opinion?" W tilted her chin slightly, indicating two mercenaries who were walking over together, and was about to shout, "Hey, you two over there—"
Viego quickly raised his hand, casting a silence skill and interrupting W's spell. He smiled and waved at the mercenaries to indicate nothing was wrong, then leaned in and gritted his teeth in W's ear, "Crazy woman, you'd better think carefully. If you say it out loud, then everyone will also know that the famous W likes to step on people and have her feet licked. I don't care, no one knows me anyway. But you're different, right? Hmm?"
"Hmph…" W snorted lightly, also waving her hand at the confused and wary mercenaries to indicate everything was fine. She slapped Viego's hand away from her mouth. "Viego, you f*cking dared to cover my mouth!"
"Your mouth stinks. What's wrong with me helping you cover it?" Viego was completely justified. "I'm helping you maintain your ladylike image, W."
W gritted her teeth.
Viego, you just fcking wait!*
