Chapter 30 - Exam

After finishing his class, Kitazawa returned to his office. With him were Hinata Hyuga and Yakumo Kurama, both already accustomed to skipping classes.

"Yakumo." Kitazawa sat down and asked, "How's your book reading going?"

"I've finished reading three books," Yakumo replied.

Perhaps it was due to the powerful mental strength granted by her Kekkei Genkai, but she had possessed an excellent memory since childhood.

"Hmm." Kitazawa nodded thoughtfully. At this pace, she would soon be ready to attempt the creation of psychological medical ninjutsu.

Of course, though it was called medical ninjutsu, it didn't belong to Yang Release, but to Yin Release. Kitazawa considered it for a moment and decided to consult with Kurenai.

After all, he wasn't proficient in Yin Release. But he had his own advantages—he wasn't bound by conventional ninja thinking.

"I'm heading out for a bit." After finishing his tasks, Kitazawa got up and left the school.

Ten minutes later, he arrived at Yuhi Kurenai's house. He raised his hand and knocked on the door.

Soon, it opened.

First appeared a pair of long white legs, followed by a slender waist and a top concealing ample curves.

"Kitazawa? No class today?" Kurenai asked curiously.

"I only had one class this morning. I'm free now, so I came to discuss Yakumo's situation with you." Kitazawa replied.

"Is that so? Then come in." Kurenai stepped aside.

"Yeah." Kitazawa nodded slightly.

She closed the door and walked into the living room. She sat on the sofa, crossing her legs and relaxing completely.

Kitazawa sat across from her and immediately caught a glimpse of her pale soles.

"What's the matter?" Kurenai asked proactively.

"Yakumo is picking up theory very quickly. She can start learning and creating ninjutsu now." Kitazawa asked, "Where do you think her ninjutsu should begin?"

"Illusion," Kurenai answered without hesitation.

"I thought so too." Kitazawa nodded, then shifted the topic. "But the current illusion techniques aren't suitable for her."

"Hmm." Kurenai folded her arms and fell into thought.

Kitazawa had previously mentioned that Kurama Yakumo could employ two types of Genjutsu. The first was Genjutsu, which directly attacked the mind, bypassing the five senses.

The second was psychological medical ninjutsu that targeted negative emotions.

"What's your take on creating new ninjutsu?" Kurenai rubbed her brow. She wasn't a ninja with the creative flair of Namikaze Minato.

In fact, most of the Genjutsu she used in the original story were inherited from her father, Yuhi Shinku.

Now suddenly being asked to develop something original truly gave her a headache.

"As a psychological medical ninja, the first goal should be to gain the patient's trust, since psychological illness is often hard to express," Kitazawa said after thinking.

"That's true." Kurenai nodded. "Then how do you gain trust?"

"By creating a comfortable environment for the patient," Kitazawa answered calmly. "Use Yakumo's paintings."

Kurama Yakumo's Kekkei Genkai could materialize her drawings into the real world. Because it was tangible, it would be hard for the patient to realize they were in an illusion.

In the original, even Kurenai, a Genjutsu expert, couldn't break free from her illusionary world.

"People tend to open their hearts more easily in a comfortable space." Kitazawa added, "And we can also use sound-based Genjutsu to lower their defenses."

Most illusions worked through sight—the eyes. Sound-based illusions were extremely rare. And because they were rare, people wouldn't guard against them.

"If the patient still refuses to talk, there's only one option left—dream consultation." Kitazawa explained, "Once the patient falls asleep, Yakumo can enter their dream using her powerful mental energy."

Nobody would care about events that happened in a dream. Yakumo could take on any form and sneak into the dream to observe.

"That's a very novel concept." Kurenai pondered a moment. "Your three points represent three different research paths."

The ideas were actually quite simple—but she hadn't thought of them. Her understanding of Ninjutsu and Genjutsu had always been that they were for battle.

"Whether it succeeds or not depends on you." Kitazawa smiled.

"It'll be tough, but I'll give it a try." Kurenai smiled confidently. "I do know a thing or two about Genjutsu."

"You're being too modest. Other than the Uchiha, you're the best Genjutsu user in Konoha." Kitazawa shook his head.

"You don't need to remind me." Kurenai curled her lips.

Damn Uchiha—they ruined her Genjutsu dream. In her youth, she'd aspired to surpass the Uchiha in Genjutsu, only to find it impossible.

Even Uchiha who'd never trained in illusions could dominate with their Three-Tomoe Sharingan. And they weren't even learning—they were skipping straight to the top!

"As an apology, I'll treat you to lunch." Kitazawa offered.

"We're already at my house, no need to spend. I'll cook." Kurenai rolled her eyes.

"You're beautiful even when you roll your eyes." Kitazawa smiled. "I'd call you the most beautiful in Konoha."

"Sweet talker." Kurenai was speechless. She stood up. "Come, follow me upstairs."

Kitazawa followed her.

Barefoot, Kurenai stepped across the wooden floor with soft sounds. Each step made her plump hips sway seductively.

"We're here. Come in." She pushed open the door and stepped into the room.

Kitazawa looked around—it was a study.

"The bookshelf holds all the Genjutsu passed down in my family. Feel free to look." She sat at the desk, speaking casually.

"Is it okay for an outsider like me to take a look?" Kitazawa blinked.

Kurenai paused. She had only intended to discuss new Genjutsu conveniently here and hadn't considered that.

"Well, since I've already agreed, it's fine." She said after a moment. Still, it felt slightly awkward.

"All right, let's start with a basic sound illusion and try creating a low-level Genjutsu." She suppressed the odd feeling and refocused.

"Okay." Kitazawa readily agreed. After all, this was a rare opportunity to explore Genjutsu firsthand. Even if he couldn't master it, the system might reward him with it later.

The time moved to the afternoon practical class.

"Before we start, I have something to announce." Kitazawa stood before the first-year Class A students and said, "The first full-grade exam of this month will be held on April 30th."

"The whole grade will be ranked?" Naruto immediately caught the key point.

"Yes." Kitazawa nodded.

Sasuke narrowed his eyes. First in class. First in the entire grade. He wanted both.

"Awesome!" Naruto grinned. "Here I come! I'm definitely going to take the number one spot in the grade!"

"It's fine," Kiba said confidently, hands in his pockets. "I'll win it for you and take first place myself."

Hinata took a deep breath. After all this special training with Kitazawa, it was time to repay him—by taking first place.
