The shelf is the limitless memory bank. Think of it as a library. A library filled with my vast amount of knowledge and experiences. From the time I've spent here, living and dying over and over again, I realized that I don't need every single memory with me all the time. So I kept it all here. Sometimes I played some of them to watch, and pass the time while waiting for my next loop. A few days ago, I played back Loop #1… the very first time I died. It went about as well as you'd expect. Here's how it went…
I woke up, sweating from a very realistic dream, with me driving straight to a cliff and falling. While falling, an unfamiliar sound woke me up. I reached out to stop the sound, missing once, twice, finally nailing it the third time. I woke up, with my eyes taking quite a while to get adjusted. That was when I realized I was sleeping in a foreign bedroom. Cautious, I stepped outside of the bed, noticing my wrist chained to the bed. Just when I fully realized the weird predicament I was in, I notice the door opened, with a man wearing a hockey mask walking towards me. "Wait, wait, you got the wrong guy, I swear, I don't know you" was what I said. When the man raised his axe and…
And just like that, he killed me. Quick? Yeah. Very. Watching it now I feel nothing, but back then I cried and pissed my pants. Some interesting details caught my eye on my second watch through. First was the bloodstains on the bed. Second was the locks on the door. It had three locks and was iron-plated. So, too quick? Yeah, maybe? I lived quite a few lives that barely lasted 10 minutes. This only stood from the crowd because it was #1. Actually, Loop #165 connects back to this one. Let me show you…
I woke up in a… familiar room. I looked at my hand, drenched in blood. Chained to the bed. Just when I realized the situation, I hear some very, very familiar words, "Wait, wait, you got the wrong guy, I swear, I don't know you…", I got up, broke my wrist, slipped my cuffs off and quietly stood beside the entrance. Just as the familiar man walked in, I kicked his crotch, grabbed his axe and executed the man. Just as I was celebrating my victory, my arm fell off, bloody and silent, I was able to see my killer, wearing the same hockey mask when he raised his axe and swung it to my head, the only difference from last time is I ducked and dodged it. As I pushed him aside, I went outside and ran the corridor, noticing that a man was burning in the next room. I got to the exit when I was shocked to see 13 more men dressed with the same hockey mask and holding axes. As I realized that, they began walking towards me, with me only able to mutter " Oh shi…"
And just like that, they killed me. Quick? Yeah. Very. Satisfying? Hell yeah. This was when I realized, everything was connected. Every life was not in a different world. It's in the same world, the only thing different was the time and place. Although, I did not know what year it was, or where I was.
To prove my point, #389, #397, #465 and #914 was on the same building. And all of it ended the same way, with me dying in the hands of the group of killers. Now, something you should remember is that, while I was back at that place for 6 times now, it does not mean that I could predict when is the next time I would be back there, nor how many more times I would be back there. There is also the fact that my memories are limited, and could not use my past experiences to help myself escape. The only reason I had recollection at all was because the first time I died there was during #1. As I said, there are only a few loops that are truly memorable, and #1 is memorable because it is #1.
