Chapter 2 - The Flask

Xeol

Whether I held a gun or a quill, they weighed the same to my soul. I twirled the quill in my fingers, a drop of blood dripping to the blank page.

"Ah! Ugh! Ah- plea-"

Sometimes I felt like an author and a good author needed a good story. A sharp quill and the highest quality ink. I dipped the tip right inside his bleeding ear and wrote the first words.

Greetings, Lord Arima,

It has come to notice that a well is being made in between our borders, extracting minerals from my side of the kingdom. Kindly look into it, else my snakes will slither to your land.

With love

Xeol Gurose.

I pulled the trigger, ending his misery. Blood and flesh gushing out of the other side of his head along with the bullet.

"Clean it off"

Once I left my throne and stepped outside, one of my snakes slithered close. Marked with black edges on her body, the venom in her fangs blinded the people and stole their most precious one, Huona.

"Tell"

She emerged from the dust on the ground and hissed at me. Behind her a smaller snake followed, dark like the sky without stars, be careful, for he blended with your shadows, his name was Yist.

"Hsst, they are going to the Psychic in the great mountain Manaihim"

I nodded my head and took a drag, watching the smoke curl up to the sky. She stepped away and he came forward. My phone rang before he could say a word. He tsked but coiled when I glared at him.

"Speak"

It was Alti.

"Boss, the supplies have been found"

Finally, good news in a long time.

"Good"

I gestured for Yist to continue. His whispers exposing every deed done under the shed.

"The Kingdom of Ghouls made a treaty with the Kingdom of Blood Hounds"

What an interesting news. So Mirajun was playing ball with the dog. I huffed. Interesting, very interesting. I dismissed them and called for my messengers to send the letter off.

"Alti, you will accompany me. Get here asap"

The curse of Yomi sprouted a hundred years ago, it started off from the northeast, infecting thousands of people. We all thought that was the end but it turned out it was the beginning. Phase one, foaming at the mouth. Phase two, spewing blood. Phase three, dead after turning into a statue. That's where the name came from, Yomi- my dear had turned to stone.

"What are your thoughts?"

I looked at Alti. She asked from the driving seat. I saw worry etched on her face. I shook my head. She bowed and continued driving. The rows of light blurring past me reminded me of a memory.

It was when I was twelve years old. I was so naïve and too positive. I wished I could go back and tell him that they would never accept us.

"Boss!"

Her voice reminded me I was no longer that scrawny kid holding a lollipop, waiting for a brother to give to.

I stepped out of the car and stood atop the mountain, overlooking the cities, from rushing cars to tall skyscrapers. I closed my eyes and enjoyed to feel of the rustling night breeze.

"Why are we here?"

I put my finger to my lip. Soon, very soon. The clock was ticking.

I smiled to the subtle change in the pattern of the wind. Alti stood vigilant as she stepped forward towards us.

"You demon!".

Well, I wasn't expecting that much aggression.

"How long are you planning on tormenting us!?"

Alti looked at me like I had gone crazy or something, and maybe I had gone mad. Trisha Maltov. She was the sister who ran away. Who I helped run away. I took the punishment for her that day, tonight it was her turn to return the favour.

"Have you got what I asked for?"

She hesitated but pulled out the flask filled with dark liquid anyway.

Once in my hand, I inspected it, my fingers tingling with excitement. Alti looked at me like I was a lunatic.

"Now, we shall consider our pact as sealed"

She stared at me long, unspoken words hanging in between us. For a bit I nearly became the kid who ran after his older sister. Nearly. She turned her head away and took a step away from me.

"The curse?"

I nodded my head.

"A sample"

And who better to retrieve it then by someone who was not affected by any magic. It was clear now; the curse was a doing of a witch or a mage.

Alti shook her head. Her eyes unbelieving of what I had at the moment.

Once we reached the mansion, I send a notice to all my snakes to be on the court. All six of them came in their human form. They bowed before me.

"Take a seat"

I walked towards the window, showcasing the moon at its height, bright and pure. I was jealous.

I nodded and Alti brought the flask in a plate, covered in red cloth. She kept it in the middle where a stand was. I went ahead and pulled the cover off of it. The entire room gasped and hissed.

"Ladies and gentleman, how did you like my surprise?"

My snakes looked quite happy, Ugake nearly jumped out of his chair. Wrapped in silken green, his scales were a poison nobody dared to touch. Evango, my vice and my beauty. She would wrap you in her innocence and take your breath away. Giselle and Arna, the twins, my strongest weapon. Huona and lastly Yist.

I crafted them with the dust and brought them back to life with a piece of my soul. They were me and I was them.

"So, who's ready for a witch hunt"

I saw hunger. I saw a viciousness like never before. My blood for vengeance ran through theirs.
