Coby was trembling but he stared at Alvida as she exploded with rage, letting out a yell he closed his eyes as she swung her mace towards him.
He felt himself be shoved and then hit the deck, his eyes flew open and he gasped at the sight of Luffy having taken the blow for him.
No! Luffy! His first friend, of a sort, and the one who gave him the courage to fight for his dream! He was now dead at the hands of Alvida's iron mace. He was never going to get to complete his dream! Coby…well it was Coby's fault that the boy died so…that meant Coby would take it upon himself to fulfill his friends dream. Even if that meant giving up his own dream of being a Marine!
Luffy, with his wide smile and casual confidence and straw hat, wanted to be the Pirate King but couldn't go through with that now because of Coby's selfishness…
Coby steeled his determination again. He'd have to do it now. He'd have to become the Pirate King for his friend. His friend whose body refused to fall even when his head must have been smashed to a pulp.
He was going to-
"Man is that the best you got? I've got four year old cousins who hit harder than that." Luffy's voice said from under the club, sounding perfectly fine. The club however began to crack and then just outright shattered while Alvida, her crew, and Coby's jaws all dropped.
Yep. Luffy was perfectly okay, not a single hair out of place or so much as a scuff mark on his hat.
"That means it's my turn now. Don't worry. I'll be careful not to kill you." Luffy said as he pulled his fist back and then shot it forward into the terrified Alvida, stopping his fist just shy of hitting her in the stomach.
He didn't need to hit her, the force behind his punch did that and sent her flying away.
"He-he just sent the captain flying with one punch!" The rest of her crew were horrified and stunned at someone being stronger than their captain.
"One punch? Didn't you see he didn't even touch her!"
"Yeah his fist stopped short but she was still sent flying!"
"Don't tell me that was from the air pressure?"
"Oh well don't you sound smart?"
"Oh shut up Gary you could sound smart too if you actually read a book."
"Nah too boring."
"You guys know how to read?"
"Shut up Carl."
"Oi." Luffy's voice made the crew stop talking as they all looked at the boy fearfully.
"Coby's leaving you to become a marine. Get a boat ready for him." Luffy said calmly and the pirates nearest to the boats immediately hopped to obey. They didn't want to disobey and end up on the wrong side of this guy.
"Marines incoming." Luffy said just before there was a cannonball that barely missed the ship.
"Come on Coby let's go. They'll never let you join if they find you here." Luffy said grabbing the boy and jumping onto a dinghy that was still attached to the pirate ship, a quick slash of his sword however sent them falling into the water.
Glancing back when he felt eyes on him, Luffy met eyes with a strange orange haired woman who was in her own small raft. They stared at each other for a moment before another cannonball flew between them and they broke their gazes.
Luffy used a trick he had seen his Mama Smooth do more than once and slashed his sword behind him, careful not to hit the girl, to create wind pressure or at least a strong gust that sent their small ship sailing away.
"So. Who's that Zoro guy they mentioned? And do you know where the nearest marine base is?" Luffy asked Coby as they escaped from the marines and started sailing at a decent pace away from the scene.
"He's a bounty hunter that many say is a demon. I've heard he drags his victims heads to the bounty office while they're still talking. The nearest marine base would probably be at Shells Town." Coby said and Luffy nodded his head as he decided to kick back and relax and watch this boy for a minute. He had a feeling this boy would be big in a few years and with proper training.
He wanted to watch and see if he had any talent or anything right now. Plus he wanted to make a call to his family about having just taken down his first enemy pirate captain! They said that it was a big occasion, especially if the enemy had a bounty, and they wanted to know immediately.
Then again Alvida wasn't really strong or worth a lot…so did she even count?
Meh. He'd flip a coin later to decide whether to tell them or not later. Right now he was curious about this pink haired marine wannabe.
The kid had plenty of guts that was for sure. And he had stood up for himself against his tormentor, even getting a nice insult in on her.
Luffy had a feeling that even if their paths went in different directions, they'd still cross and he and Coby would still be great friends.
Even if he later became the Pirate King and Coby the Fleet Admiral, Luffy had a strong feeling that they would still be friends and wouldn't ever actually try to kill each other.
