Chapter 1 - Chapter 1:“ Birth of Legend”

26th March, 1931,

Father of Indian nation Mahatma Gandhi reached the Karachi session of the Indian National Congress. But the political atmosphere around him had changed.

Usually, people welcomed him gladly and respectfully. But this time, he was welcomed with "Gandhi Murdabad" slogans criticising him. protests were raging all across the country, people shouting such slogans led to businesses being shut down.

"Gandhi go back..."

"Gandhi Murdabad..."

Because three days ago,

A young revolutionary was martyred.

"Bhagat Singh, under section 121 and 302 to be hanged till death."

This revolutionary could live only 23 years, 5 months and 23 days. But despite his young age, he is talked about even today.

What did he do.…?

150 km from Lahore, in a village called Banga, on 29th September 1907, at 9 am, Sardar Kishan and his wife Vidhyavati's second son was born.

Before the birth of his baby, his father and his two uncles were already in jail due to anti British activities. But coincidentally, when the baby is born, the three brothers were out of jail. Because of his auspicious day the baby's grandmother said that the baby was "Bhago wala". "Bhago wala " meant lucky. And this name sticks and the child was formerly named Bhagat Singh, a great devotee. The child was born into a Jatt family and his ancestors had fought for their country and community.

Their great great grandfather fought against the British for the Sikh Empire and his father and uncles fought for our nation's freedom.

There were several incidents during martyre Bhagat Singh's childhood, that tell us that he wasn't an ordinary child.

For example, when he was 3 years old, one day he ran towards the fields near his house and started digging. His clothes were covered in mud, but he didn't stop. His father asked him "Why he was doing so ".

But martyr Bhagat Singh didn't answer.

His father asked again.

And the 3 year old child said "I am sowing guns, so that when they sprout, we will be able to get rid of the British."

He said this when he was only 3 years old. But there were other things too that show him as an innocent child. Like, he was afraid of the dark and never went out alone at night. At the age of 5, Martyr Bhagat Singh was admitted to the "District Board Primary school ". e was popular in school.

His mother said that he made friends easily and many times his seniors carried him on their shoulders to his home.

But even at a young age, two incidents happened to martyr Bhagat Singh that completely changed his outlook.
