Chapter 37 - Chapter 37: Cardo and the Ninja Thief

Land of Lightning, Cloud Shinobi Village.

Under the cover of night, two shadowy figures moved stealthily through the dimly lit streets of Cloud Shinobi Village. Their destination was clear—the Raikage's administrative building, a fortress that housed the village's most guarded secrets and wealth.

Obito led the way, his steps silent and assured. Behind him, Black Zetsu followed closely, excitement barely contained beneath his composed exterior. Tonight, they were not mere trespassers; they were about to execute a heist that would shake the foundations of the Cloud Village.

Two guards stood at the entrance, unsuspecting. With effortless precision, Obito struck first, swiftly knocking them out cold without alerting any nearby villagers. The path was clear.

Inside, the duo pushed open the heavy doors of the Raikage's office, stepping into the heart of the village's power.

"Cloud Shinobi Village sure is careless," Obito muttered with a sneer. "Only two guards for such an important place? That's just asking for trouble."

Black Zetsu chuckled. "Obito-kun, you're right. Let's find where they stash their treasures."

Together, they began searching the office methodically.

Minutes later, Black Zetsu's sharp eyes caught something. "Obito-kun! Over here—I found it!"

Obito rushed over and saw a thick metal door cleverly concealed behind the Raikage's grand desk.

"Tsk," Obito muttered, "I didn't expect the vault to be so openly placed."

Black Zetsu was already pressing buttons and levers, and with a quiet mechanical whirr, the vault door swung open.

They stepped inside.

The vault's interior was overwhelming—rows upon rows of chests and stacks of currency filled the room. The wealth of the Raikage Village was vast, a testament to its power and prosperity.

"As expected of one of the Five Great Nations," Black Zetsu said with awe, "Cloud Village's finances are substantial indeed."

Obito smirked. "Can these reckless fools really spend all this money?"

"Doubtful," Black Zetsu replied. "Which means, it's all up for grabs."

The two exchanged wicked smiles.

"Obito-kun, no time to waste. We must clear this vault tonight and vanish before anyone notices!" Black Zetsu said with urgency.

Obito nodded without hesitation.

Activating his Mangekyō Sharingan, he opened his Kamui space—a pocket dimension where he could store vast amounts of objects.

Within moments, all the riches from the vault were absorbed into the Kamui space. The operation was smooth and precise.

But the job was far from over.

The pair moved swiftly across the village, breaking into the treasuries of major families and key locations. Each stop added more wealth to their growing hoard.

The night was a blur of stolen riches.

By dawn, they had emptied every known vault, leaving the Cloud Shinobi Village bankrupt and defenseless.

Both men were exhausted, breath ragged from the exertion.

Obito rubbed his eyes, which stung painfully.

Even with the regenerative powers granted by Hashirama's cells, the relentless use of Kamui strained his vision.

"Damn it," Obito groaned, "my eyes are bleeding."

Black Zetsu's eyes widened in alarm. "Obito-kun! Your hands are covered in blood!"

Obito blinked, wiping the crimson from the corners of his eyes.

In all his years, his eyes had only bled the first time he activated the Mangekyō Sharingan, but never again—until now.

"This… this work is taking its toll," Obito said grimly. "We need a break. Some real rest."

Black Zetsu nodded. "Agreed. The pace has been brutal. We've been out all night 'making money' and counting loot all day. It's exhausting."

He looked at Obito. "Let's head back to the Land of Fire to rest. You keep your space, so I'll entrust you with the money."

Obito agreed silently, and the two prepared to leave the village before anyone noticed their crime.

---

Outside the village, near the border of Cloud Shinobi Village, Cardo silently approached.

His large frame blended into the shadows as he surveyed the area.

Cardo intended to rest here before entering the village itself. He planned to confront the Fourth Raikage directly—Cloud Shinobi Village had kidnapped a young girl under his protection, and he wasn't about to let that slide.

He clenched his fists. The Raikage would soon learn what it meant to cross him.

Settling beneath a sturdy tree, Cardo prepared to rest.

Suddenly, voices drifted through the air.

He pricked up his ears.

"Hehehe, Obito-kun, how much do you think we made in Cloud Shinobi Village this time?"

"We raided every major family and the Raikage's vaults. I think we got over four billion."

"I think so too. Where should we hit next?"

"After a couple days of rest, let's hit the Land of Earth."

"Those reckless fools haven't even realized their money's gone yet!"

Cardo's eyes snapped open, widening.

"Did those two actually steal the entire Cloud Shinobi Village's wealth?!" he exclaimed silently.

Despite believing the Cloud Village deserved the loss, Cardo refused to let two thieves get away with it.

He leapt down from the tree and sprinted towards the voices.

"Stop right there, you two thieves!" Cardo shouted as he barreled towards them.

Obito and Black Zetsu turned in surprise.

A muscular man dressed in blue tights stood before them—tall, Mediterranean features, eyes blazing with determination.

Cloud Shinobi Village's reaction was swifter than expected.

Obito narrowed his eyes. "So, the Cloud Village does have defenders."

As Cardo closed the gap at lightning speed, both Obito and Black Zetsu were momentarily stunned.

Cardo planted himself firmly in front of them, his large hand raised in command.

"Any evil will be brought to justice! Hand over the stolen money immediately!" he barked.

Obito and Black Zetsu exchanged a glance, then burst into laughter.

"You gotta be kidding me, Obito-kun," Black Zetsu chuckled. "The old man's talking like a child!"

Obito shook his head, barely holding in his laughter.

"'Any evil will be brought to justice?' That's rich!" he scoffed.

Cardo's face flushed with anger. "Stop laughing and hand it over!"

The two men continued laughing, oblivious to Cardo's frustration.

Finally, Cardo clenched his fist and swung at Obito.

Obito barely reacted—activating Hollow to become intangible.

Cardo's fist passed through him like air.

His eyes widened in disbelief.

Before he could recover, Obito countered with a swift kick to Cardo's chin, sending him sprawling backward.

But Cardo was not done. He sprang back up and launched a relentless barrage of attacks.

Yet, Obito danced away easily, dodging every blow.

Finding an opening, Obito struck, but Cardo's defense absorbed most damage with surprising resilience.

"If physical power won't work, then it's time for illusions!" Obito smirked.

Locking eyes, Obito cast a powerful genjutsu.

Cardo froze, caught helplessly in the illusion.

Black Zetsu watched with a hint of admiration.

"His incredible physique makes him a perfect subject for experiments," Obito mused. "I'm taking him to Orochimaru. The snake will be fascinated."

And so, the would-be hero Cardo fell into the hands of Uchiha Obito.
