The alarm blared to life for the third time, jolting Mikaela out of her slumber. She groggily reached for her phone, knocking over a glass of water in the process. "Oh no, it's already 7 am!" she exclaimed, throwing off the blanket and rushing to the bathroom.
Ten minutes later, she emerged, dressed in a pink bodysuit and black sandals, her hair still damp from the hasty shower. She grabbed her black purse and rushed to the living room, where her siblings were already having breakfast.
"Who made breakfast?" she asked, surprised.
"Adrian did," her sister replied, smiling. "He's been watching you cook, so he thought he'd give it a try."
Mikaela's eyes widened as she took a bite of the scrambled eggs. "Wow, Adrian, these are good!"
Adrian beamed with pride, and Mikaela couldn't help but feel a sense of pride in her little brother's growth. She finished her breakfast quickly, knowing she was already running late for her first day at work.
As she hailed a cab, she felt a sense of nervousness wash over her. She had landed the job as a secretary at a prestigious company, and she was determined to make a good impression.
The cab ride was uneventful, but Mikaela's mind was racing with thoughts of her new job and what to expect. When they arrived at the office building, she thanked the driver and rushed out of the cab.
As she entered the office, she spotted the CEO's assistant, Jason, waiting for her. "Mr. Evans," she called out, trying to catch her breath.
Jason looked up from his phone and raised an eyebrow. "You're late," he said, his tone neutral.
Mikaela felt a flush rise to her cheeks. "I'm sorry, I got stuck in traffic," she lied, not wanting to admit she'd overslept.
Jason nodded and pointed down the hallway. "The CEO's office is at the end of the hall. He's been waiting for you."
Mikaela nodded and hurried down the hallway, her heart pounding in her chest. She knocked on the door, and a deep voice called out, "Come in."
She pushed open the door and stood before the CEO, Raymond Williams. He looked up from the files on his desk, his piercing blue eyes seeming to bore into her soul.
"So, you're the new secretary," he said, his voice firm but not unkind. "Mr. Miller recommended you from Zinnia University."
Mikaela nodded, feeling a sense of intimidation wash over her. "Yes, sir. I'm excited to be working here."
Raymond leaned back in his chair, steepling his fingers together. "We'll see about that," he said, his eyes never leaving hers. "You're late on your first day. That's not a good start.", "And you think you are big enough to keep Raymond Williams waiting." He asked turning his chair around.
"I am sorry sir, I was stuck in traffic sir, I promise to be more early next time." She felt her throat dried up as she swallowed her saliva.
"will there be a next time girly." He asked her and he slammed the file on the table.
"I am sorry sir." She said again, she didn't even remember how many times she had said that now.
"Sorry for yourself now get out of my office." She was about to rush out, "And ask Jason to show you your desk." He said to her.
"Thank you, sir," she said then hurriedly left his office.
"What a cold and arrogant bastard, jeez." She walked around the office.
Mikaela felt her face heat up with embarrassment. "I'm sorry, sir. It won't happen again."
Raymond nodded, his expression unreadable. "See that it doesn't. Now, Jason will show you to your desk. Get to work."
Mikaela nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. She turned to leave, but not before catching a glimpse of Raymond's piercing blue eyes.
As she walked out of the office, she let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. That was intense. She spotted Jason waiting for her outside the office.
"Your desk is just down the hall," he said, leading her to a sleek, modern workspace. "You'll be working closely with the CEO, so be prepared for a lot of responsibility."
Mikaela nodded, feeling a sense of excitement mixed with trepidation. She was ready to prove herself, but she had a feeling that working for Raymond Williams wouldn't be easy.
As she settled into her new workspace, she couldn't help but wonder what the day would bring.
"Wow this entire office is so beautiful, I can't wait to tell Olivia.", she took out her phone and took selfies.
She went to Instagram and WhatsApp and changed her profiles picture. "Oh God the pictures are topnotch."
She texted Olivia her bestie. "Oh God I got the job babe, you have to see the company it's scream wealth."
Her telephone rang, shocking her. She picked up the call.
"Bring me a cup of black coffee." The person on the other end said.
"And who do you think you are to order me around, I only listen to the boss okay now f**k off." She wanted to end the call when she heard the person groan.
"I am your boss you fool." Her eyes widen immediately and she hits her head hard.
"I am so sorry sir, I am so stupid." She felt like crying.
"I know your are stupid, now get me a cup of black coffee." He hanged up on her.
"Oh Mika you are so stupid, hope I don't get fired on my first day at work, the twins will be so disappointed.
She got up from her desk. "I don't even know the way to the kitchen." She saw an employee walking by, "Excuse me do you know the way to the kitchen, I am new here." She said politely.
"And how is that my business, now get out of my way. "Nora said trying to push her away.
"And who the f**k do you think you are, to push me around you bitch." Mikaela jumped on her dragging her hair.
Raymond and Jason were just passing by. "What is going on here?" Raymond said making them stop fighting, but Mikaela still showed Nora a f**k you sign.
Raymond also saw that. "It's your first day at work and you already got into a fight you will surely get punished.
