Kenshin walked through the street.
"What are you? You talk like a real person."
Infinit: I am a smart system.
"Do all the Chosen have a system like you? My head hurts. I have so many questions. Can you just answer me?"
Infinit: No.
"Why?"
Infinit: Have some manners. When you want something, ask nicely. Try: 'Please, can you answer me?'
"Okay. Please, what is happening? Yesterday I was an old man, and now I'm young. Do I have a voice in my head? Did I die? Is this the afterlife, or have I gone crazy? Forget it. Don't answer. I'll get the answers myself. I'll go home. I'll see their reaction when they see me."
Infinit: Hmmmm.
He reached the apartment building and walked up the stairs. He opened the door and saw Akari, his son's wife. She was dressed to go out.
"What do you want, young man? You can't come in now. My husband will be back soon. He's out looking for his father. You have money, right?"
I was right, Kenshin thought. The bitch is a cheater.
"Okay. I'll come back later."
He turned to leave.
Infinit: Wow.
The first thing you do with your new young body is try to sleep with your son's wife. I'll allow it. You deserve some action after all those years.
"No." Kenshin descended the stairs and reached the street. "I just said that so she would let me go. So this is my reality now.
I'm young again, and I have a sick pervert in my mind."
Infinit: Why do you have to be like this? We're going to be together for years, if not forever.
"Okay, okay. I'm sorry. I was rude. I'll try to be better."
Infinit: That's more like it. Let's start again.
Infinit: I am a smart system. No one else in this world has a system like you.
My name is Infinit because of the abilities I give you. I will grow as you grow; I have infinite capacity. This is because of my core ability: Absorb.
When you kill a human, beast, or monster, I can absorb its essence. You will then gain its abilities. Don't ask about my origins. Like you, I don't know who created me. That's all the questioning for today.
"Okay. Thank you. So now I need to go to a dungeon. First, to make money to live. Second, to get stronger and absorb some monsters. But I can't. I don't have a Chosen card. Only they can enter a dungeon."
He went to the Japan Chosen Guild headquarters. At the front desk, a woman was there.
"Welcome. How can I help you?"
"I want to get a card. I think I'm a Chosen."
"Okay, I'll need your information."
Kenshin gave her his name and details. She typed them into her computer.
"Come with me."
She led him to a room with a crystal ball on a pedestal.
"Place your hand on the ball. When I say so, channel your power into it."
She sat at a terminal. "Okay. Channel your power now."
Kenshin placed his hand on the crystal. Do I even have power? He focused his intent on the ball. The crystal turned black.
"Okay, done. Go wait outside in the main hall."
Kenshin walked out and sat on a bench. The hall was filled with other Chosen.
Guild recruiters lingered near the testing rooms. He waited. Recruiters watched him.
After a few minutes, the woman returned with a new ID card.
"Congratulations. You are a Chosen. You can now enter dungeons and sell the items you find here. Be careful out there.
As a Chosen 6, the dungeons can be dangerous."
The recruiters relaxed and lost interest. One of them turned away. The others went back to their conversations. One muttered to another.
"Another rookie. It's been five years since a Rank 1 appeared. We've only had ten Rank 2s in that time."
Kenshin looked at his card. Chosen 6. The weakest.
Why? Why am I the weakest of them all?
Infinit: Hmmmm.
"Okay. Now I have to wait for a dungeon to appear nearby. I don't have money to travel to another location."
He sat in a park for six hours. He heard someone running and telling people a dungeon had appeared two streets to their left. He stood up and left for the dungeon.
