Renya was a bit surprised and curiously sized the two of them up.
Judging by the ages of Sarutobi Hiruzen and Shimura Danzo, they looked to be around eight or nine years old.
The entry age for the Ninja Academy was between six and seven, so it was clear the two were older than usual.
The two arguing boys noticed his gaze and both looked toward Renya.
"What are you staring at?" Shimura Danzo frowned, clearly annoyed.
He was in the middle of arguing with Hiruzen over which of them the Hokage-sama was looking at, and now this random brat was staring at them—of course it irritated him.
Renya: "..."
Seriously? Can't even look?
No wonder he became the "Shadow" of Konoha—this temper was awful even as a kid.
Normally, he'd just let it go, but Renya wasn't the type to stay quiet.
"What the hell are you barking about?!" Renya shouted back. "Can't look? What, your family owns the Ninja Academy or something?!"
"You..." Danzo froze.
He hadn't expected him to talk back.
Danzo, who had never experienced verbal sparring before, was furious and ashamed, glaring at Renya as if he wanted to swallow him whole.
"What are you looking at, your mom?!" Renya snapped.
The surrounding kids were stunned, their faces filled with disbelief.
They hadn't expected someone to say something so crude in this setting.
"You little brat, are you looking to die?!"
Danzo roared and charged at Renya with his fist raised.
Renya had already gauged Danzo's strength—it was about the same as his, both Genin level—so he wasn't afraid in the slightest.
Just as the fight was about to break out, Sarutobi Hiruzen grabbed Danzo tightly from behind.
"Danzo, calm down!"
"Hiruzen, let go! I have to teach that brat a lesson!" Danzo struggled.
"The Hokage-sama is watching!"
Hearing this, Danzo suddenly froze.
His anger had clouded his judgment, and he'd completely forgotten that this was the entrance ceremony.
Realizing this, Danzo's face turned pale.
The commotion drew the attention of Senju Hashirama on stage.
He looked curiously at Renya and asked:
"Little Renya, what's going on?"
"It's nothing, Hashirama-san," Renya replied with a smile.
The Hashirama couple had visited Renya frequently. They were concerned that Senju Tobirama wasn't taking proper care of him, so they'd often stop by.
After a year of interaction, Hashirama had grown quite fond of Renya.
"Haha, I see. As long as everything's fine." Hashirama casually stepped down from the stage.
His speech was over, and now it was Tobirama's turn.
The children present were dumbfounded, their faces filled with shock.
What did they just witness?
That brat actually knew the Hokage-sama—and seemed to have a good relationship with him?!
Danzo's already pale face turned even whiter, completely bloodless.
I'm screwed!
That brat had some terrifying background!
He started to regret his impulsive behavior.
Sarutobi Hiruzen breathed a sigh of relief.
Thankfully, he'd managed to stop Danzo in time, or things would've gotten much worse.
He looked at Renya curiously, trying to guess his identity.
Once Tobirama took the stage, he shot Renya a quick glance.
What a troublesome brat—causing problems on the very first day.
"There will be no private fighting at the Ninja Academy. Violators will be expelled!"
Tobirama began explaining the school rules.
These were all children. They didn't know how to hold back. If someone were to get seriously hurt, it'd be a disaster.
Challenges between students were allowed, but only under the supervision of a teacher.
"Next, we'll begin the entrance test."
After Tobirama's announcement, a group of teachers stepped forward to organize the tests.
The entrance test had four sections:
Basic Knowledge: Simple questions on ninja history, ninjutsu theory, and chakra fundamentals.
Ninjutsu & Chakra: Assesses students' grasp of basic ninjutsu and their ability to extract and control chakra.
Physical Ability: Tests for strength, speed, coordination, flexibility, etc.
Mental Resilience: Scenario-based questions to evaluate psychological fortitude.
Renya passed easily and was placed into Class A by the teachers.
Standing beside him were Sarutobi Hiruzen and Shimura Danzo.
Hiruzen smiled and nodded at Renya.
Renya gave a brief nod back.
He wasn't the type to pick fights unless provoked.
Danzo, on the other hand, stared at Renya darkly, clenching his fists.
He had already done some digging.
This brat was the Uchiha kid adopted by Tobirama-sama!
He was consumed with jealousy and resentment.
Why did that Uchiha brat get Tobirama-sama's favor?!
Noticing Danzo's expression, Renya sneered.
"You're still going to school at your age? Must've cost your family quite a bit, huh?"
At that, both Danzo and Hiruzen looked awkward.
Renya had hit the nail on the head.
At nine years old, they were already over the standard age for entry.
Their fathers had spent a fortune just to get them enrolled.
"Heh."
Seeing them fall silent, Renya scoffed.
Danzo was instantly enraged.
If not for school rules, he would've already taught this arrogant brat a lesson.
Even Hiruzen's face didn't look great. He shot Danzo a resentful look.
If Danzo hadn't acted like that, would things have escalated?
Before the entrance, Hiruzen's father, Sarutobi Sasuke, had told him that one of the new students was adopted by Senju Tobirama, and he should try to befriend him.
With Uchiha Madara's defection, Tobirama was the likely candidate for Second Hokage.
If he could get close to that kid, it might lead to becoming Tobirama's disciple.
A disciple of the Hokage!
Hiruzen had planned to approach the kid later and build rapport.
He never imagined the kid Danzo had randomly picked a fight with was that very Uchiha...
Luckily, only Danzo had clashed with him. Hiruzen had stayed out of it.
Just as Hiruzen was about to go over and speak with Renya—
"Damn brat! Do you dare accept my challenge?!" Danzo suddenly shouted.
Hiruzen: "???"
He turned toward his friend in disbelief.
His expression practically screamed: [Are you serious?!]
Danzo was a year or two older than Renya and had been training longer—this was blatant bullying!
"Danzo, calm down!" Hiruzen quickly said.
If he won, fine.
But if he lost, Danzo would never live it down.
Hiruzen wanted to talk him down, but Danzo ignored him completely.
"Brat, do you dare or not?!"
He was the Shimura clan's genius—being humiliated by a brat like this was intolerable.
There were other Shimura kids around too. If he didn't regain his pride, how could he face his clan?
Renya had already been annoyed by Danzo's repeated provocation.
Now that the guy came to him directly, he didn't mind teaching him a hard lesson.
