Hazel's POV
"Pip, please come down from there!" I stared up at the tiny sparrow darting around the ceiling fan. Just minutes ago, she'd been a normal toddler having a meltdown because she was hungry. Now she was a bird, chirping angrily and dodging my attempts to catch her.
My life had become completely unrecognizable. Two months ago, I was a human living among wolves. Now I was trying to wrangle a shapeshifting child who couldn't stick to one form for more than five minutes when her emotions ran high.
"She gets like this when she's hungry," Leo explained, watching from the doorway. At ten years old, he was the oldest of the shifter children I'd somehow become responsible for. "The hunger makes her shift uncontrollably."
"Why didn't anyone tell me sooner?" I tried to keep the frustration from my voice. Pip swooped down, nearly grazing my head, before flying back up to perch on the light fixture.
Leo shrugged. "We thought you knew. You're the Queen."
