Kael's POV
The road stretched ahead like a dark ribbon as our convoy thundered through the night. Trees blurred past the windows of our SUVs, the headlights cutting through the darkness like blades.
I checked my watch. We were making good time to the Fiddleback territory for this mandatory meeting with Adrian's pack. My mind, however, remained firmly elsewhere—with a green-eyed human who should be at my side.
*She's safer away from you.*
Lykos's voice cut through my thoughts, sharp and accusatory. I scowled, ignoring him.
*You're going to destroy her with your arrogance.*
"Shut up," I muttered aloud, earning a concerned glance from Jax in the driver's seat.
"Did you say something, Your Majesty?" he asked, eyes flicking to the rearview mirror.
"Nothing. Keep driving."
