Harry had tears in his eyes as he hugged Petunia. "Goodbye, aunt Pet." And he sobbed more as she held back tears.

‎Vernon patted his shoulder gently: "Oh come on, Harry dear. You don't want to miss the train, do you?"

‎The boy now looked at him.

‎"You are the son of fighters who fought for what's good." Vernon wiped his tears.

‎"Yes." Harry gulped: "And the nephew of the greatest uncle ever!"

‎Vernon chuckled as he put his hand on Harry's head: "And you'll show this in your first year there."

‎Harry nodded as he looked to Petunia who smiled warmly: "I will."

‎As he boarded the train, he looked back one last time and found his aunt crying on his uncle's shoulder. Vernon waved at him as a hint of a tear slid down his face.

‎***

When Petunia Evans, a thin woman with a long neck went on her first date with Vernon Dursley - a colleague at work, she couldn't think of anything more "dull". But she herself was fond of this normalcy and so they hit it off.

‎As they got closer, she noticed Vernon had such a depth she had rarely seen in men. On their second date, in an attempt to start a conversation Vernon explained to her the concept of Absurdism, how some people in the world believed the world was inherently meaningless and why expending energy for useless pursuits of excellence instead of enjoying life itself was such a foolery.

‎"Plain idiocracy, indeed!" She had exclaimed, trying to relate although she didn't really grasp the idea.

‎What she did know was that she liked how uniquely he looked at things, so differently yet lived so normally.

‎And when he wanted to meet her family, she reluctantly invited them to his house, as she worried how he would think of her weird sister and her even weirder husband. She grimaced.

‎***

‎Vernon shook James' hand as he invited them in warmly: "Come on in, Mr and Mrs Potter. The food's turning cold."

‎They were positively surprised at his attitude as they entered and sat in the living room.

‎"So how is Law Enforcement going over there in the West?" Vernon asked as he served the food on the table.

‎James arched up an eyebrow while Lily knew exactly what this meant as she glared at Petunia. She hadn't told him they were wizards.

‎"Petunia, you have yet to give me a tour of the house-" She faked a smile and took her out in the hallway gently.

‎"Well, there's not much trouble in Godric's Hollow. Not many criminals around those parts." James played along.

‎"I see. Do you want apple pie?" Vernon asked him: "Baked it myself"

‎"Why yes-" James replied.

‎-

‎Petunia had a little confrontation with Lily about why she hadn't told Vernon about their magic and when they came back, James was already dropping the bomb: "I see how sincere you are with Petunia, Mr Dursley and I know you are going to marry her, that is why-"

‎Lily chimed in: "-it's your right to know, me and my husband. We... are magical."

‎Vernon took it literally, the man took information at face value: "Do you mean Mages, Sorcery?"

‎"Yes, Mr Dursley. Me and Lily are aurors - people who deal with magical criminals."

‎They let the moment sink in for a moment before Vernon saw that James' plate was empty: "Oh do you want more of that?"

‎James was still as the Dursley slid more pie onto his plate: "Look, James- and Lily, I understand that you both are magical. Its hard to believe but I don't suppose it's a joke. Good to know some fairytales are real."

‎James was amused, Vernon Dursley was the best muggle for them to reveal their identity. He didn't bombard them with questions like a little child in fascination. Lily was surprised he wasn't afraid of them. And most of all, Petunia was shocked because: "You don't hate them?"

‎Her fiance was clearly offended by this: "Why would I hate them? They are polite people, your family." He smiled at them.

‎The Potters left his house smiling, promising to write letters now and then and most affected by this was Petunia Evans who would soon be a Dursley. It was a new experience, living with someone who was... so inclusive. She felt like she was being brainwashed by his ideas day by day but she did not dislike it. It felt easier to breathe without all the hate.
