Chapter 2 - Chapter Two: Unspoken connection

As Maya sat in her next class, she couldn't help but think about Azazel. She wondered what his story was, what had brought him to this campus, and what secrets he might be hiding.

After class, Maya met up with her friends Emma and Lydia, since they had plan to study in the library together. As they studied, Maya found herself distracted, her mind wandering back to Azazel.

"Earth to Maya!" Emma said, waving her hand in front of Maya's face. "What's going on? You've been spaced out all day".

Maya blushed, feeling a bit embarrassed "Sorry guys. I just met someone, and I'm interested," she said trying to downplay her fascination with Azazel.

Lydia's eyes lit up. "Ooh tell us more!" She said leaning in.

Maya hesitated, unsure how much to share. But her friends were closet confidantes, and she trusted them. "His name is Azazel," she said, smiling. "We met in class today, and we talked for a bit. He's really interesting, and I feel like I've known him forever."

Emma grinned. "That sounds romantic," she said, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

Maya rolled her eyes, laughing. "It's not like that," she said, though she couldn't deny the flutter in her chest whenever she thought about Azazel.

As they continued studying, Maya's phone buzzed with a text from an unknown number. She hesitated for a moment before answering.

"Hey, it's Azazel. I got your number from the class roster. Would you like to grab coffee with me tomorrow?".

Maya's heart skipped a beat as she read the message. She looked up at her friends, who were watching her with interest.

"What is it?" Emma asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Maya smiled, feeling a sense of excitement. "It's Azazel," she said, her voice trembling slightly. "He wants to grab coffee with me tomorrow".

Lydia grinned. "You have to say yes!" she said, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm.

Maya nodded, her heart racing with anticipation. "I'll go," she said, typing out a response to Azazel's message.

As she hit send, Maya felt a sense of uncertainty. What was she getting herself into? And what secrets was Azazel hiding?.

On his way home, Azazel couldn't help but think about his own friends, who had been by his side for centuries. There was Karl, his confidant and strategist, who had a sharp mind and a quick wit. Then there was Lila, a fiery and passionate being who had a talent for manipulation. And finally there was Gideon, a brooding and intense individual who had a deep understanding of the supernatural world.

These friends had been Azazel's companions in the underworld, and they had shared countless adventures together. But now, Azazel's focus was on Maya, and he couldn't wait to see her again.

As he walked back to his place, he sensed Kael's presence nearby.

"Kael," he called out, and his friend appeared beside him.

"What's the situation with Maya?" Kael asked, his eyes sparkling with curiosity.

Azazel smiled, feeling a sense of excitement. "I'm making progress," he said, his voice low and smooth. "But I need to be careful. She's not like the others".

Kael nodded, his expression thoughtful. "I'll keep an eye on things," he said. But you need to be careful, Azazel. The others might not be happy about your involvement with a mortal."

Azazel's expression turned serious. "I know," he said. "But I'm willing to take the risk."

As Azazel and Kael spoke, Lila and Gideon entered the room, she stood beside Azazel. "Azazel we've receive Intel about threats to Maya's safety," she said, her voice low and serious.

Azazel's expression turned grave, and he sat down. "Let's discuss this further," he said, his voice commanding attention.

The group fell silent, their faces set with determination. They knew that protecting Maya would require careful planning and strategy.

The second day, Maya and Azazel sat together on a beach in the campus squad, enjoying the warm sunshine and gentle breeze while sipping their coffee. They didn't need to talk much, content to simply be in each other's presence.

As they sat there, Maya felt an inexplicable connection to Azazel. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but she felt like she had known him for years, not just few days.

Azazel, on the other hand, was struggling to balance his devilish nature with his growing feelings for Maya. He didn't want to scare her off, but at the same time, he couldn't deny the strong attraction he felt towards her.

As they sat in comfortable silence, Maya turned to Azazel. "So, what do you like to do for fun?" she asked, curious about his interests.

Azazel shrugged. "I'm a bit of a collector," he said. "I collect experiences, knowledge and... other things."

Maya's eyes lit up with interest. "That sounds fascinating," she said. "What kind of experiences?".

Azazel's smile deepened. "All kinds," he said. "From the mundane to the extraordinary. I like to think that life is full of surprises, and I'm always looking for the next big thrill."

As they talked, Maya found herself feeling more and more drawn to Azazel. She couldn't quite explain it, but she felt like she was meant to be with him.

As the sun began to set, Azazel stood up, holding out his hand to Maya. "Want to grab dinner with me?" he asked, his eyes sparkling with invitation.

Maya's heart skipped a beat as she took his hand. "I'd love to," she said, feeling a jolt of electricity as their hands touched

As they walked off campus, Maya felt like she was stepping into a whole new world. A world where anything was possible, and the impossible became possible.

Xorvath, a ruthless and cunning demon leader in another realm in the underworld, had been searching for Maya for centuries after killing her in her past life for her powers, and now he had send his demon minions Mocha and Rata to watch Maya from the shadows.

"Looks like Azazel found her before us," Mocha said, watching Azazel and Maya walking off campus.

"Azazel is playing with fire," Rata said. "Master will stop at nothing to destroy her once again". Mocha and Rata exchanged a knowing look. This was going to be interesting.

As they walked to dinner, Maya couldn't help but notice the way Azazel's hand felt in hers. It was warm, strong, and comforting. She felt a sense of safety with him that she hadn't experienced in a long time.

As they sat down at a cozy Italian restaurant, Azazel ordered for them both, his Italian flawless. Maya was impressed.

Over dinner, they talked about everything from their favorite books to their favorite music. Maya was struck by how much she had in common with Azazel. They both loved literature, particularly poetry and their taste in music is similar. As they talked, Maya started getting comfortable with him.

As the night wore on, Azazel walked Maya home, his arm around her shoulders. Maya felt like she was floating on air, her heart racing with excitement.

When they reached her door, Azazel turned to her, his eyes locked on hers. "I had a great time tonight," he said, his voice low and husky.

Maya smiled, feeling a flutter in her chest. "Me too," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Azazel leaned in, his face inches from hers. Maya's heart skipped a beat as she wondered if he was going to kiss her.

Just as their lips were about to touch, Azazel's phone buzzed, shrill in the quiet night. He pulled back, his expression darkening.

"Sorry, I have to take this," he said, his voice tight with tension.

Maya nodded, feeling a pang of disappointment. "It's okay," she said, trying to sound casual.

As Azazel answered the phone, Maya couldn't help but wonder what was going on. Who was on the other end of the line, and what did they want?.

Azazel expression grew more and more intense as he listened to the voice on the phone. Maya watched, fascinated, as his eyes seemed to flash with anger.

Finally, Azazel hung up, his face set in a determined expression. "I'm sorry, Maya," he said. "I have to go."

Maya nodded, feeling a sense of disappointment. "Okay." she said, trying to hide her feelings.

Azazel's eyes locked hers, and for a moment, Maya felt like she was drowning in their depths. "I'll see you soon," he said, his voice low and husky.

And with that, he was gone, leaving Maya wondering what had just happened.

As she went inside, Maya couldn't shake the feeling that Azazel's life is more complicated than she had initially thought. And she couldn't help but wonder what secrets he was hiding.

Meanwhile, Azazel strode through the night, his heart pounding with anticipation. He knew that he had to take of the situation, but he also knew that he couldn't stay away from Maya for long.

As he walked, his phone buzzed again, this time with a text from Kael. "Azazel we need to talk," the message read.

Azazel's eyes narrowed as he typed out a response. "What's going on?" he asked, his fingers flying across the screen.

The response came quickly. "It's about Maya," Kael wrote. "They are getting close to her."

Azazel's expression darkened as he read the message. He knew that Kael was right, but he knows he had to protect Maya from Xorvath and he couldn't allow Xorvath take her away from him again.

As he walked, Azazel knew that he had a decision to make. And he had to protect Maya.
