Chapter 8 - A business offer

As Evan walked out of the bidding chambers, he began to follow those who had been bringing the slaves out. Following them, a certain slaver had suddenly caught Evans' eye, as he took a slight detour.

The slaver wore a tight sleeveless shirt, along with some metal leggings and boots, and held a long sword as his waist at caught Evan's eye for a brief moment. His face seemed young and his hair was a bright blonde and his eyes, a bright emerald green. Evan then inspected his ears along with the rest of body, only confirming that the man was indeed human.

As he continued to trail this man who was quite skinny from the other slavers here, Evan's life flashed before his eyes a dagger flew past his face as the slaver faced him. Raising his hands to the blonde man with his sword drawn, his face turned to surprise as Evan recognized the sword. Taking a defencive stance, he raised both of his arms to block any strike that would come towards his head again.

'That's Kass's blade! How in the hell does this guy have her blade!? Could he be a relative, or a friend of some sorts?'

One of the many playable characters within H.K.U was Kass Hoffman, a swordswoman who joined the main party of the story since she was devilishly strong. Later on, it was revealed that most of her power had come from her special blade which was apparently a gift from someone she wouldn't name. Evan began to wonder if he was the person who would give Kass the blade, or if he would die later on.

"Who are you, and why do you keep following me? If you answer honestly, you might be able to walk away unharmed." The man spoke calmly, as rushed towards Evan who dodged the mans blade which stabbed into the wall behind him.

Turning around, Evan swung his fist towards the man which struck his back. A large force of pain entered his hand as it felt like he had just punched a moving car. Moving back a bit, the blonde man pulled his sword out of the wall before swinging it at Evans head, asking the same question as last time.

"Then stop swinging your swor-" Evan paused as he ducked from the oncoming swing that nearly decapitated him.

'This guy's body is super strong, but it doesn't look like he's a swordsman. His movements are far worse than Grams.'

Caught in mid through, the man's palm gripped Evans neck as he then slammed him into a wall before placing the edge of his blade onto his throat. Even the smallest movement caused the man to retaliate and press down a little bit more.

"I won't ask again, who are you and why were you following me." He asked again in the same tone of voice.

Evan looked him in the eyes, yet couldn't tell if this guy was being honest or not. The man's eyes, although mesmerizing, looked like those of a corpse.

'I've never seen this guy in the game before, and he has Kass's sword, so I should play it safe.'

"Do you work for the slavers?" Evan asked, speaking with a deeper voice as he stared into the man's eyes.

"... Yes, I do."

The anticipation grew within the hallway as Evan paused. Taking a deep breath, the blonde man began to grow impatient, and Evan could feel it as the blade began to draw a small bit of blood.

"Then can you…" Evan halts as the blonde man ready his sword to slice his throat.

"... Lead me to the boss. I believe I'm lost." Evan says as he removes his cloak, and shows his insignia with a serious expression.

The blonde man stared at him for a bit, confused before sheathing his blade before helping Evan up.

"You should have just said so." He said, as Evan then looked towards the knife within the wooden wall with scared eyes.

As they both begin walking down the hall, Evans' eyes continue to look at the blonde man's blade, still curious with his connection to the main story along with Kass. He scratched his head since most of the scenarios could be possible, yet nothing concrete.

"Are you interested in men?" The blonde man asked as Evans' face turned to surprise and confusion.

"What? No, its not tha-"

"Are you by chance curious about my blade then?" He asked as Evan shook his head.

Unsheathing his blade, he held it onto his palms and gave it a sentimental look akin to a father staring at his child.

"I used to be part of a nomadic tribe of barbarians when I was younger. The way of the sword was not so much idolized there as it is here. They worshipped carnage and chaos. To be innate in the clan was to be met with the murder of the other children they would pit you against. In order to satisfy their urges, they-" Before continuing his story, Evan cut him off, pointing out that they had arrived.

A bit embarrassed, the blonde man took his leave when Evan had finally realized he should have asked for his name. Gone already, Evan sighed as he then knocked on the door.

"Who is it?" The man asked, as Evan walked inside.

Sitting down next to a large desk made of fine wood was the man Evan had been needing to talk with today. His name was Mr. Woods and he was the one who ran the slave auction events along with some minor crime rings within H.K.U. He was your typical mini-boss who'd usually get executed once you beat and got him arrested, but Evan looked to him with different plans.

"Nice to meet you."

"EVAN! Come over here and take a seat!"

The main exclaimed loudly as Evan looked confused for a brief moment before asking him if they had met before. He was on the larger size, wearing a fine outfit befitting of a minor crime lord. He was bald, and tall yet couldn't be depicted since he was sitting down. On the side of his nose was a small scar that was quite noticeable for its size.

"Evan, I'm hurt. Who else would sell you a mercenary and be fine with him dying?!"

A brief wave of pain took over Evan's head, as a brief memory of Evan buying a mercenary contract from Mr.Woods showed. They seemed to have gotten along during the brief time they had actually met, and was one of the few people Evan actually respected to a degree.

'Another one of Evans memories huh. Maybe I only get more when I see something he has before?'

Taking a seat, Evan apologized as Mr.Woods questioned his arrival.

"You need another mercenary again? No, that would be dumb after the first time you tried. Are you looking for a specific slave by chance?" Mr. Woods questioned as Evan then raised his hand to halt his questions.

"Ive come here for none of that Mr.woods. Instead I bring to you a business proposition."

Mr.Woods face suddenly turned serious as Evan smirked, leaning back a bit as he pulled a letter from his vest pocket he had prepared prior.

"On these papers lies the Calliste family house hold's, along with guard routes and the optimal time to enter with the least chance of getting caught. It also holds the specific instructions needed to open their vault along with its location." Evan explained as he slid a few of the unimportant documents.

"Where on earth did you get this Evan?! This looks like some high grade intel!"

"Thats not important right now. Do you think you would be able to pull it off?" Evan asked as Mr.Woods grinned, looking at Evan's face.

"I think we can get this done alright. The question is what do you want for all this?"

A giant smile grew on Evans face, shocking Mr.Woods before he calmed down and waited.

"Mr.Woods. For the information I will give you, all I ask in return is for you to kidnap Evelyne Calliste when you conduct the heist."

Mr.Woods face filled with shock, before looking at Evans face which had a serious look. He let out a sigh, before looking towards the papers Evan placed on his desk.

'With this information, we could make a missive profit, but kidnapping their daughter is asking for all of us to get sent to the chopping block. Why in the hell would this kid need us to-. No, its best not to question such a prospect.'

"Evan, as much as I would love to, there's just too much risk with kidnapping her. We both know how strong their family is. If any single one of them were to get wind of this, none of us will live to regret it." Mr.Woods Explained to Evan, leaning back in his chair and placing his giant hand onto his bald head.

"Your right Mr.Woods, there's too much risk with it." Evan said.

Mr.Woods leaned up with a happy look now that Evan had finally realized how crazy his idea was, only for his face to fill with dread as the same smile he wore remained.

"It would be too difficult for you and your men if the family were to catch wind, however they will be heavily distracted due to a small event that will soon be held!" Evan exclaimed, slamming both his hands onto the desk.

Evan began to explain his plan while Mr.Woods listened very closely. After around 10 minutes, both had come to an agreement. Mr.Woods would receive the information to rob the Calliste family household, and in return Evan would gain a small portion of the goods of his choosing along with the kidnap of Evelyne.

"Oh yea, one more thing. I also want to help this business grow and thrive into what it can fully be, and to do that we need to do a little pest control." Evan said to Mr.Woods with a devious smile filled with cruel intent.
