Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Reborn as Mo Fan

"Huh? Where am I? Didn't I just go to sleep after studying?" a teenage boy muttered as he looked around at the unfamiliar surroundings.

The room was old, with faded walls and patches of plaster peeling off in several places. A musty smell lingered in the air. Confused, he rubbed his temple—only to suddenly cry out in pain.

"Argh! My head!" He clutched his skull as a torrent of foreign memories surged through his mind, overwhelming him.

Faces, names, feelings, and experiences that weren't his flashed before his eyes. When the pain finally subsided, he slumped against the wall, breathing heavily.

"Mo Fan... this guy's name is Mo Fan. And this place... Bo City?" he whispered, his eyes widening as realization dawned on him. "Wait a minute. Magic? Bo City? No way... this is the world of Versatile Mage!?"

Panicked and still reeling, he hurriedly reached for the pendant around his neck. His fingers brushed against a familiar object—a simple, rough pendant that glowed faintly.

"The pendant… it's real." His heart pounded. "So it's true... I've been transported into Versatile Mage, and not just that—I'm in the body of the protagonist, Mo Fan."

He sat down slowly, the weight of the situation pressing down on him.

"And from these memories, it looks like the original Mo Fan just transmigrated last night... Damn."

"So right now, the biggest problem is the high school entrance examination," he muttered to himself, rubbing his temples in frustration. "Damn it… How am I supposed to pass a magic school exam in just two months?!"

Now, he truly understood the panic the original Mo Fan felt in the novel.

"And to make things worse, I suddenly have a new dad and a stepsister... Fortunately, they're not around today."

A sigh of relief escaped his lips as he recalled from the memories that his new "father," Mo Jiaxing, was out on a delivery job, and his "stepsister" lived with their aunt for the time being.

"Well, at least that gives me time to adapt to this body. Still… I need to hit the library. If I fail the entrance exam, my life here will basically be over."

He glanced at the bedside clock. It was only 7 in the morning. The library wouldn't open until 9.

"Good thing today's a holiday. School starts tomorrow, so I still have one day to get myself together."

"Guess I'll take a bath, get some breakfast, and then head out," he decided, already making mental plans for the day.

The next day, following the route stored in his memory, Mo Fan made his way to school. As he approached the gate, a skinny boy ran up to him.

"Brother Fan, you're here! How are you?" the boy asked cheerfully.

Mo Fan looked at him and smiled. So this is Zhang Xiaohou… Mo Fan's childhood friend.

"Oh, Xiaohou, I'm fine. How's your preparation for the exam going?" Mo Fan replied casually.

"It's okay. I think I should be able to pass," Zhang Xiaohou answered, scratching his head modestly.

From the original Mo Fan's memories, he recalled that Xiaohou had indeed passed the exam—and with a decent ranking too.

"Maybe I should study with him. At least then I'll have someone to guide me."

"Say, Xiaohou, how about we study together? You know, the exams are coming, and my grades are still at rock bottom."

Zhang Xiaohou blinked, surprised. "But Brother Fan, I thought you weren't interested in becoming a mage?"

Mo Fan gave a sheepish grin. "Well, that was before. Now that the exams are so close, I thought I should at least give it a shot."

"No problem then! How about we go to the library after school?"

"Sure!" Mo Fan agreed enthusiastically.

After school, the two went to the library together. This became their daily routine for the next two months—attending classes during the day and studying hard after school. With Zhang Xiaohou's help, Mo Fan slowly grasped the fundamentals of the magical subjects.

During this time, he also met his new father, Mo Jiaxing. While things were a bit awkward at first, Mo Fan gradually adapted. Eventually, he felt more at ease, no longer stumbling over his words or feeling like a stranger in his own home.
