Chapter 3 - Sold – Part I

Once the man had settled himself on his seat, a knock was heard on the door.

"Come in."

The door was opened and in walked a man with blonde hair that stopped at his shoulder. His face – though masculine – looked almost feminine with his long lashes and bright almond eyes.

"Here." The blonde said, handing over the file in his possession to his boss. "It contains the important information obtained from our investigation on her "

Present in the file was a picture of a girl named Oakley Perez. Nineteen years old. Graduated highschool last year but did not attend college, and worked part time at a coffee shop.

It also showed that her father died when she was just fourteen years old due to lung cancer. Her mother had gotten remarried two years later but the man had also died. Oakley stabbed him to death...

... After he had tried to rape her.

Her relationship with her mother turned sour after the death of her second husband. Now, they were in debt.

"What's your plan now that you know her whereabouts?" The blonde haired man asked curiously.

The CEO gazed at the picture of the girl again. Though his face was expressionless, one could tell that he was thinking about what to do next.

Oakley stepped out of the shower feeling refreshed. It had taken a while, but she was able to bring in and arrange their things in the house.

She glanced at the clock in the room. The time was currently 6:30pm. Thirty more minutes before her shift begins.

The event of this morning replayed in her mind. Was she really going to get that much money in less than a week by working at a coffee shop?

But, she was hoping that she could get an advance on her salary. Maybe even an increase in salary if luck was on her side.

Who knows?

She left her room after dressing up in her work uniform. She walked into the living room where her mom usually stays either watching her usual telenovela or painting her nails. But she wasn't there.

Margret had gone out in the morning after the whole drama, but yet she wasn't back home.

Oakley did not want to worry about her lateness as this wasn't the first time it was happening, but she honestly could not help it?

Despite the strain in their relationship, she was still her mother, and she was always going to be worried about her, especially since she knew that her mother was probably going to come back drunk, or not come back at all today.

She was starting to rethink going to work, but she needed the money to fix their current predicament.

How did her mother fall into so much debt anyway?

Why would she borrow money in the first place?

Was she gambling?

It was a possibility, but Oakley did not want to believe it. Her mother never gambled before, so why would she start now?

Pushing the thoughts aside, she left the house, making sure the door was locked.

She had to solve their problem quickly, or else her mother and her would find themselves six feet under.
