What's it like having a werewolf living at home?
It doesn't really feel any different. Neither did I encounter a transformation on a full moon night, nor did I witness a bloodthirsty werewolf murder my entire family in a rage. Nor did I face a huntsman leading over two hundred knights to punish evil and incidentally flatten my house. Kevin felt that this night was as calm as if nothing had happened: that werewolf was easy to talk to, paid the rent obediently, and wasn't furious after transforming. Her only characteristics were being afraid of cats, being a bit talkative, and slightly annoying. Besides that, she had no other flaws. Moreover, whether transformed or not, she looked cute, and it seemed like it wasn't that unacceptable.
Early the next morning, Kevin was awakened by a wet and tingling sensation on his face. As soon as he opened his eyes, he saw a foolish-looking, hairy face with black and white stripes staring at him. The only message in its two golden vertical pupils was: Breakfast!
"Good morning, get lost," Kevin struggled to keep himself from falling asleep again. After yawning several times and stretching his arms, he finally woke up. He waved his hand to shoo away his cat, the second-in-command, and got out of bed in a daze to get dressed.
Then he suddenly remembered that his house had a new tenant.
And then he suddenly remembered that this new tenant was an unknown entity claiming to be a werewolf.
This matter kept him tossing and turning until the small hours of the morning before he could barely fall asleep. At this moment, upon waking up, the dizziness in his head hadn't subsided. He couldn't help scratching his hair and muttering, "Could it be a dream?"
But soon he realized that it wasn't a dream: a clattering sound of footsteps came from the direction of the living room, followed by a somewhat familiar, loud voice, "Landlord! Landlord, does your TV have no signal? The advertisement said there's TV to watch, right?"
Kevin sighed and finally accepted the fact that his life had changed from then on. But he knew he wasn't prepared for anything yet. Honestly, unless someone had been deeply immersed in fantasy for years and had their reality invaded by fantasies, who could be prepared for this situation now? He had no idea how to get along with a werewolf or what would happen the next day. In the current situation... he would just take it one step at a time.
He pushed open the door and saw Lily already sitting in the living room. Moreover, the werewolf girl had changed her clothes. She was wearing a cool little vest and denim shorts, exuding youth and vitality. Her slightly tanned skin paired with this outfit made her look like she had just come out of some fitness program live event. Seeing Kevin come out of the room, Lily immediately waved happily and said, "Good morning, landlord! Why isn't there any signal on the TV?"
Immediately afterward, she saw the black and white kitten lying on Kevin's shoulder, wearing an expression as if inspecting the palace. She immediately did a backflip and jumped behind the sofa, timidly exposing half of her head. Her eyes, which had turned light gold, stared dead at the cat's face. After holding her breath for a while, she greeted in a nearly worshipful tone, trembling, "Roll... good morning."
As a werewolf, please try to be a bit more promising," Kevin silently glanced at Lily and felt that every additional word he spoke with this girl weakened his sense of crisis about the uncertain future: she was really good at relieving stress. Then he looked at the LCD TV in the living room, which he had bought only two or three years ago, and saw a blue screen. "Is there something wrong with the TV? Can't you get a signal in your room either?"
This unassuming rental apartment had a very luxurious aspect: there was a TV in every room. Kevin had bought them during a period of booming "business" a couple of years ago, but he hadn't spent too much because it was during a major sale. Nowadays, having a TV in every room was his most attractive advertising line when renting out the place.
Lily nodded and carefully crept out from behind the sofa, moving on all fours like a little dog. "There's no signal in my room either. I wanted to watch the documentary channel this morning."
"Do you like watching documentaries?" Kevin asked casually as he crawled behind the TV to check if it was a wiring issue. Lily's voice came from behind him, "No, it's just that there's a dubbed film recently about the story of prairie wolves. I need to keep up with the movements of my fellow family members..."
"Are you from the African savanna?" Kevin turned his head and asked curiously. Thinking about the other party's werewolf identity and the topic they were discussing, he indeed felt a subtle sense of weirdness.
Lily shook her head, "No, I don't know where I'm from either. Maybe near the snowy plains. My memories before the 'awakening' are vague and I can't remember at all. But I think all wolf clans are one family. You humans have so many races, but you're still collectively called Earthlings. I think the main reason we 'outcasts' are excluded to the lower tier of the Earth's circle is that we're not united enough..."
Lily started babbling again, and Kevin felt that he was completely out of sync with the conversation. Damn it, how was he supposed to follow this? Was he supposed to discuss evolution or species issues with a canine from the snowy plains?
"The wiring is fine, the TV is fine. Since you can't get a signal in your room either, it should be a problem with the signal tower," Kevin lifted his head from behind the TV, speaking with an air of professionalism, although he didn't actually know what was going on. He just felt that he couldn't lose face in front of this idiot werewolf who was scared of cats to the point of crawling on all fours. "There are few wired connections here, so basically, we still rely on the TV tower."
"Oh," Lily responded, looking somewhat regretful, but the regretful expression lasted only a few seconds before disappearing without a trace. Kevin first went to fill up the cat's food bowl and then prepared to go to the kitchen to cook, but just as he was about to take a step towards the kitchen, a sudden knocking sound came from the door.
Kevin couldn't help but wonder if it was an illusion, but a second before the knocking sound, he suddenly felt a familiar chill. However, the chill only lasted for an instant, like an illusion, and he attributed it to his hypertension nerves.
Lily furrowed her brows and sniffed, but found nothing. She pointed in the direction of the door and said, "Landlord, there's a guest!"
"I know, I know," Kevin said as he ran to open the door, wondering who would visit such a remote place. It wasn't even time for the utilities bill collector. When he opened the door, he habitually said, "Hey, are you looking for...?"
Standing outside the door was an unfamiliar girl.
She was tall, easily over five feet seven inches, with a slender figure and long hair reaching down to her waist. She wore a very plain black dress and somewhat worn-out sneakers, with no other decorations. However, her plain clothing could not conceal her outstanding appearance: her face was delicate and carried a sense of "nobility." Her eyes were not big, but when slightly squinted, they seemed to carry an elegant beauty. Her nose was small and slightly upturned, her lips were thin and naturally red, and her overall face shape seemed to have a slight Eurasian mix, giving the impression of a beautiful mixed-race girl. What was most striking was her complexion: her skin was so clean and tender that it seemed almost fragile, and unusually pale... even too pale, to the point that Kevin thought it was somewhat ghostly.
Kevin was not the type of person who would be mesmerized by beauty. Although he yearned for a relationship, he still had some self-control. Yesterday, when he saw Lily, a beautiful girl of her caliber bouncing happily in front of him, he didn't stay stunned for this long. The main reason he was stunned now was that the girl at the door looked even more surprised than he was.
The unfamiliar girl at the door shielded her eyes from the sunlight, seemingly not fond of overly bright weather. When she saw Kevin open the door, the surprise on her face was completely unmasked, and before Kevin could speak, she exclaimed, "You're the one from yesterday night... You're not dead?!"
"How dare you say that!" Kevin instinctively replied, and then realized the information conveyed in her words. "Yesterday night... Oh my god! Lily, transform quickly!"
He had only encountered one other "person" besides Lily yesterday night!
And now he was completely sure that the chill he felt before opening the door was not an illusion; it was his magical sixth sense that he had developed since childhood. But facts proved that having only a sixth sense without vigilance was useless. He had already opened the door and was less than two meters away from the attacker from yesterday night!
Kevin's last thought in this chapter was: I didn't expect her to be such a beautiful girl...
