Cherreads

Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Kiba had just finished selling fish and his clayware. Today's earnings were quite good.

On his way back, he spotted a yellow-haired kid being insulted by bystanders for being the "Demon Fox."

But Kiba didn't approach him. The ANBU and ROOT were watching over Naruto, and one wrong move could turn Kiba into a puppet for Konoha's elder, Shimura Danzo.

The thought sent a chill through Kiba's body.

He never wanted to experience anything like that.

&I need to train my Earth Release until I can use Seismic Sense like Toph,' he thought. It made sense, the highest tier of Earth Release involved manipulating gravity, which was even crazier.

When he arrived home, he put away his savings but frowned as he rummaged through his bag. "Hmm, who put extra money in here?"

He didn't dwell on it too long, it could've been his sister, his mother, or, however unlikely, even the Hokage.

His attention shifted to the rickety hut before him. "I need to fix this before winter hits," he muttered, eyeing the weathered structure. "At least make it stop leaking."

A grim thought crossed his mind. 'If winter comes like this, I won't just be cooked, I'll be frozen solid.'

But haphazard building wouldn't cut it. First, he needed proper knowledge.

Kiba headed straight for the library, scouring books on construction techniques. With borrowed manuals in hand and fresh ideas in mind, he got to work.

Day 1-2,

Kiba scouted the area before settling on a construction site, a small clearing encircled by trees but open at the center. Kneeling, he pressed his palms firmly against the earth and channeled chakra through the ground. The soil shuddered before rising in a slow, deliberate motion, forming a rectangular platform. By nightfall, the foundation stood complete, and Kiba collapsed onto the grass, his muscles trembling from exertion.

Day 3-4,

With the foundation set, he spent the next two days inspecting every inch of the earthen platform. Whenever his fingers detected a soft or unstable patch, he poured additional chakra into the soil, compressing it until it hardened like stone. His arms ached by the end of each session, but the result was a flawless, unyielding base.

Day 5-9,

Construction progressed wall by wall. Each morning, Kiba raised a new earthen side, then spent the following day reinforcing it. On the third day, he carefully carved out a doorway, his hands steady as he shaped the opening without compromising the structure's integrity. The work was tedious, but he refused to rush.

Day 10,

Rain poured unexpectedly, forcing Kiba to improvise. He hastily molded a sloped roof, his fingers working quickly to angle the surface so water would run off instead of pooling. The result was rough and uneven, but it did the job. He'd smooth it out later when the weather cleared.

Day 11-13,

The chimney proved far more complicated than he anticipated. Three days of adjustments and failed attempts left him scowling at the stubborn structure. Finally, after recalculating the airflow, he managed to craft a functional flue. A purchased door completed the entryway, and for the first time, the shelter truly felt like a home.

Day 14-19,

His original plan for a triangular roof tested both his earth jutsu and his patience. After days of frustration, he abandoned the idea, settling for a simpler design. He also scrapped plans for an indoor toilet, the village's public facilities would have to suffice.

Day 20-31,

With the structure finally complete, Kiba shifted his focus to the interior. His bedroll was replaced by a proper mattress, and over the next several days, shelves and a closet took shape along the walls. Each addition made the earthen house feel warmer, more lived-in.

Day 32,

Winter arrived with biting winds and frost-laden air. Kiba counted himself lucky for having bought a thick coat beforehand without it, the cold would have been unbearable, even deadly.

Despite the harsh conditions, he worked outside, chopping logs behind his house. His hands numbed with each swing of the axe, but he gritted his teeth and kept going.

Once he had gathered enough firewood, he hauled the logs inside and stacked them neatly beside the chimney.

Shrugging off his coat, he hung it on a hook before settling directly in front of the fire. The heat seeped into his bones, slowly thawing his stiff fingers.

As warmth slowly returned to his body, he crossed his legs and grabbed the container full of leaves. With a quick motion, he dumped them over his own head before closing his eyes, focusing on his next task, training his chakra control.

A good number of leaves had managed to stick to his body, but he ignored them, concentrating instead on making a single leaf spin on its own. The effort was subtle, requiring precision rather than force, and he exhaled slowly, willing his chakra to respond.

Once he finished the exercise, he let himself collapse onto the floor, limbs heavy with exhaustion. His mind wandered, searching for something else to occupy his time.

Fuinjutsu was out of the question, he didn't have enough blank scrolls to practice. His body ached from earlier training, ruling out any physical drills. And with chakra control already done for the day, he was left with few options.

He considered working on his Earth Release, but the risk of damaging his home made him hesitate. With a sigh, he stared blankly at the ceiling, frustration creeping in.

'I want to go outside, but the weather's too harsh right now.'

The howling wind outside rattled the walls, and the snowstorm showed no signs of letting up. He would have to wait until tomorrow, hoping the storm would calm by then.

'Wait… Why not practice the Rasengan? I've got nothing better to do. It's better than just lying down.'

Pushing himself up, he formed the familiar sphere of chakra in his palm with ease. But something was missing, the violent, internal spinning that gave the technique its true power.

Kiba frowned, studying the flickering energy in his hand.

"Hmm… What if I adjust the spinning motion?" he muttered to himself. "If I structure it like an atom, with multiple layers of rotation, maybe that'll work."

He focused again, reshaping the chakra with a new approach to refine the technique further.
