Yaohu froze with shock at the sight.

No, he was not already intimidated. Not from a mere quest of this level, but the implications that this quest alluded to, that truly did shock him quite a bit.

"Wait... so it's not just about getting beauties and expanding my bloodline? The higher the quest level, the stronger the girls have to be, too?"

"Yep," the system replied casually. "As the levels go up, both the quantity and cultivation rank of the women required increase."

"So when you said—three thousand beauties to complete the main quest—you meant..."

[Three thousand Supreme Rank beauties. Three thousand fairies, yes.]

Yaohu's eyes widened.

"Wait—remind me again—what were the cultivation levels of this world?"

[Glad you asked. The cultivation realms are split into nine realms:]

Minor, Intermediate, Major, Low Holy, Mid Holy, High Holy, Sage, Great Sage, and Supreme(Warrior or Magi).

[Each realm has nine subranks within it.]

Yaohu facial expressions grew rigid.

It was common knowledge that High Holy was the peak of cultivation in the empire—and even the whole wide fucking world.

Supreme Rank?

Where the hell am I supposed to find those kinds of freaky women?

And god-damnit they would not be, for certain, normal people.

Humans, or sentient beings, as Yaohu knew them, were not capable of being near damn-omnicient. But cultivators of that level would all be supremely powerful, and their personalities and character would reflect such immense power.

Each person at that level would be a person of deep beliefs, great accomplishments, and anything else that counted as great. And he needed to wed so many of such high-caliber women?

Cold sweat beaded down his forehead.

"There aren't even women of that level in the mainland, right?" he asked incredulously.

[Not my problem, host. I just hand out the quests, rewards, and punishments.]

"...Screw you," Yaohu muttered under his breath.

But deep down, he knew it made sense.

Anyone who had reached the level beyond Supreme, the level of Gods, had done that by creating their own personal legend. A life story so splendid, it would be unusual for them not to become immortal gods.

If he wanted to become part of such a circle of individuals, if he wanted to be a God, of course it would not be easy.

With a sigh, he started mentally calculating what each quest level might demand... and was instantly overwhelmed.

But the system wasn't done with him yet.

[Timeframe for Lv 2 Main Quest: Five days.]

[Failure condition: System removal and full memory wipe regarding transmigration and the system.]

"...You're joking, right?!"

[No.]

Yaohu was dead silent for a moment.

Damn.

Then he grinned.

"The more insane the challenge, the more fun the game. I've got a feeling this is going to be the most chaotic—and entertaining—part of my life. I am ready.

"Anything else?"

It was a challenge. And Yaohu loved challenges.

[Wanna check your side quests?]

"You bet."

[Initializing Side Quest...]

Side Quest: Have passionate Sex with concubine Yulan.

Rewards: 3,000 EXP, Random Major Rank Item

Timeframe: None – take your time, champ.

Yaohu gently caressed Nian'er's head as he sank into thought.

She nestled deeper into his embrace.

Love was love.

Power was power.

And when chasing monumental goals, emotions had to take a back seat to strategy.

He liked Nian'er, and he had indeed decided to wife her up. Yet, if she learned that he planned to sleep with her mortal enemy, their budding affection for each other would just be ruined.

But.

He wanted to be honest with the people he loved. At least, without that being an idiot move, of course. If there was no honesty, what was any relationship worth?

Yet, talking about Concubine Yulan now was just stupid. But sleeping with her mortal enemy behind her back was not anywhere close to honest, either. That was backstabbing behaviour.

Then what should he do?

The answer was clear.

I should sleep with Concubine Yulan first, then talk about it to Nian'er—but it should be done in a way Nian'er would appreciate me sleeping with her mortal enemy.

He kissed the top of the beauty's head.

She smelled so great.

With the crash course complete, it was time to plan his future path to completing the Main Quests.

As the great memer, Sun Tzu, once said: If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.

Thus, plan before anything.

His blue gaze became a deep pond.

At the early stages of the main quest, jumping from one woman to the next might work, but with the system's tight deadlines, that approach would quickly fall apart.

Digging through the inherited memories in his mind, Yaohu's eyes lit up.

Control the roots, and the tree follows.

The Inner Court—a battleground in silk—was dominated by imperial concubines. Each concubine commanded her own inner network of personal attendants and maids. Even the lowest-ranked among them were allowed two personal attendants and a head eunuch.

Each personal attendant oversaw ten maids.

That alone was a sizeable chain of influence.

Similarly, head palace maids, though technically outside the concubine hierarchy, held a status roughly equal to that of personal attendants.

Each one managed ten palace maids beneath her.

Which meant: if Yaohu could win over a single head palace maid, gaining access to five or more women would be a piece of cake.

But of course, there was a catch.

He couldn't be sure any of them would meet the cultivation level requirements for the quest.

Low-ranked palace maids were all over the place—some had no cultivation at all, others barely reached the Initiate Rank.

Mid-ranked maids tended to hover around the Middle Rank, while head palace maids themselves were generally at the Major Rank.

"I'll have to be careful with my targets..." Yaohu mused.

The idea was sound. Now came the execution.

Do not plan too much.

Once a plan is ready, move to action without hesitation.

I will have to think about this. But first, let's soothe the cool flower in my arms.

He caressed her hair. "Niane'r, what are you thinking right now?"

She looked up, eyes as beautiful as gems, looking a bit annoyed. "Are you done muttering to yourself?"

"Don't be so mad for nothing now," he said. "I was thinking about something."

"About what?" she asked cutely.

"Ah, forget that. I am a boring nerd in my mind. I am more interested in what you were thinking about."

She pouted. "Well, I am thinking, oh, you stayed after the deed." She smiled. "You are not that big of a bastard, I guess. Though you were clearly there to get into my skirts."

Yaohu choked on his own words. "...I won't deny that."

Smart wifey.

She looked up with a smile, poking his chest with her fair pinky. "This skirt of mine could get you killed, young man!"

He leaned closer to her face and exchanged a small kiss.

She reluctantly reciprocated—then bit his lips.

"You did well bringing us to my room," she said. "Otherwise, we would have been done for once my ability came undone."

"Oh, I am good like that."

She bit his lips again.

Her heartbeat quickened at the thought.

Yes, she was doing it. Sleeping with a man behind everyone's back, flirting with him, hiding like a coy little thing in his arms.

Yet, for once, she felt a bit alive.

And, surprisingly, he had not killed her or left her after use. He had stayed. He had shown affection beyond just pleasure.

He was—pretty damn hot as well.

And he was looking hotter in her eyes for some reason.

Honestly, she had been prepared for being abandoned or even ending up as a corpse. She had been ready to die when she let herself go earlier, but now, it didn't seem so dark.

In fact, it seemed… warm.

Then, she was hit by a crazy realization.

"...By the way, what is your name?" she asked.

"..." he froze. "Wait, you didn't know that?"

She blushed. "Just tell me."

"Yang Yaohu…"

"Playboy name!"

"Not my fault…"

They laid like that for a while, silent and enjoying the embrace. But then, Nianer's eyes widened. "Oh no, Yaohu, I gotta go."

"What happened?"

"There is an event I have to participate in today, otherwise—" She stood up, clumsily searching for her clothes and looking at him. "Sorry, but if I don't go, it will be verysuspicious. And I will look hostile to many people, and that will not be good."

"What about… me?" he asked with a pitiful look.

She rolled her eyes and touched his chest once again. "Here, I've put you in my dimension, now leave quickly."

He pouted in irritation as she pushed him out of her room.

Once he was gone, she remained silent for a while.

She then sighed.

"He is… good to me." Then, she bit her lips. "And I lied about all that event to him."

Why had she done that?

To make him go away?

Why?

She threw away the clothes in her hand.

Why did she do things even she did not know why?

She laid back on her bed, now alone as usual.

As she laid there, tears slipped down her cheeks.

If the Emperor finds out, I'll be dead, right?

Oh, Nian'er, does it even matter now?

She chuckled.

On the other side of the wall, Yaohu looked at the red cube in his hand, then sighed. Poor girl, she isn't used to warm company for times when it is not intense.

Guess I will give it to her another time.
