Chapter 4 - The Flame grows (pt1)

Five years have passed since the birth of Ryfon. Time, as always, moves in quiet strides. Not much has changed in the village, but within their little home, everything is different. Serena has dedicated herself wholly to caring for him. Every day is filled with laughter, lessons, and love. At first, she regretted leaving her position with the Elven Knights. Of course, she wasn't in any high or remarkable rank she was just a simple scout, but she still held some standing and pride with the duty. But know its just simple games beneath the canopy and early teachings of the elven ways, she was even teaching him how to commune with his spirit better. She's had even grown a little fond of the small salamander, who never strayed far from Ryfons side. When he turned three, Ryfongave it a name Emberin. it was a fitting name, for a creature born of flame but loyal as kin. Strange how such a small name can carry so much meaning.

15 years had passed, and as of June 15—his birthday—Ryfonwas now 20. He was running around as any kid his age would, with Emberinclosely following behind. If one had paid close attention to the little spirit over the years, they would have noticed it had grown a bit. Just as Emberinwas about to catch the boy, he stopped upon hearing a knock at their wooden door. Excitedly, he called for his mother, who put down her cooking utensils and went to open it. Outside stood the village's tutor. Since children were uncommon in the village, there was no need for a school henceforth the tutor just outside their door she only need a few years to teach the basic education, covering what a parent couldn't teach. and If the parents wished, she could also instruct the child further in spirits and magic. In this case, Ryfon was especially excited for the latter. His mother had been telling him about the tutor he would be learning from for months, and now she was finally here.

"Greetings, Lady Vaelwyn. It's good to see you again. How long has it been—50 years, no?" asked Serena in a reminiscent tone. outside their door stood a female elf with medium length purple hair tied into a bun, she wore simple clothes that you would expect from an elf that did nothing but read books and teach kids on how to better manipulate magic she even had the glass to complete her outfit "It indeed has been a short while since we last met. If I recall, it was before you were even pregnant with little Ryfon—I think it was in the library where I work when I'm not tutoring," she replied, trying to recall the details correctly. "Where's that brute Vamir? He's not out hunting again, is he? I heard there have been more monster sightings farther out in the forest," she added, as if she were sharing important gossip. "He sure is. You know, if he weren't the captain of the force, I would have dragged him out by his ears and made him quit on the spot," Serena answered, rolling her eyes. "What he does is important work, you know, so you can't really blame him. How else is the village supposed to feed all you meat-eaters?" she said in a playful but slightly degrading tone. Before Serena could respond, Vaelwyn bent over slightly and said, "Is this the mighty Ryfon—the one who had over 80 spirits answer his birth ritual?" When she finished her sentence, Ryfon let go of his mother's leg, politely bowed, and introduced himself. "Umm… hello, Miss Vaelwyn. I'm Ryfon, and this is Emberin," he said in a childish but mature manner, the proceeding to hold up his spirit.

Vaelwyn was slightly taken aback by his greeting. Most kids his age would never be able to greet an adult so maturely; they would at most say hi and shyly wave. But that wasn't even the main reason she was so surprised—she was mainly surprised because the boy was holding a spirit. And the best part was, it seemed to be contracted to him. "Serena, this isn't your spirit, is it? No, wait—it can't be. You can only handle water spirits," she asked hysterically. "Yes, as you can see, Ryfon has contracted a spirit. But don't tell anyone. Only Vamir and the village chief know. It won't do him any good if word gets out that he made a contract before he was even a year old," she replied. "Who knows what might happen? He might be forced to travel all the way to one of the seven elven kingdoms. He's too young to be going to such a populated place." Understanding her worry, Vaelwyn assured her she wouldn't tell anyone and walked inside to get herself situated. She was going to have fun teaching such a prodigy.
