Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: The Entrance to the Forbidden Court

Whispers followed Lin Yue like silk trailing behind her heels.

Once the shame of the capital, she now walked like a storm disguised in silk. The very walls of the imperial city seemed to hush when she passed, heads bowed in reverence, or in fear. Her enemies did not dare meet her eyes.

The day after her trial — the day her stepmother, Madam Hu (stepmother), and stepsister, Hu Mei (stepsister), were dragged away for their crimes — Lin Yue emerged not as a disgraced daughter, but as a woman reborn. The court had tried to cover the scandal to protect its name, placing the public blame on a nameless servant. But those who mattered knew who had orchestrated the downfall, and who had survived it.

She had not just survived. She had conquered.

The divine Lustbound System purred within her like a sleeping beast. It had granted her its first reward: heightened senses — beauty now potent enough to bend the will of kings. Her skin glowed, her voice lured like honey over steel, and her eyes... oh, her eyes could kill.

The news of the Huaqing Academy entrance examinations broke the same morning.

A single crimson scroll arrived at every noble estate — the imperial seal in gold wax.

> "All candidates of appropriate age may present themselves at the palace gates by sunrise, one week hence. Physical endurance, strategic mastery, and court etiquette shall be tested. Only the worthy shall enter the sacred halls of Huaqing Academy."

It was the empire's most elite institution — where warriors were trained in combat, seduction, politics, and subterfuge. Only the brilliant and the ruthless survived.

The streets buzzed. But Lin Yue? She merely smiled.

POV: Lin Yue

> "Let them test me," she whispered, twirling the scroll between her fingers. "Let them try to break me. The only thing that will shatter is their illusion of control."

---

In the Grand Tea Hall of the Southern Pavilion, noble ladies and their daughters gathered to gossip. Lin Yue entered in a moon-silver hanfu, every step measured, every movement graceful. The conversation died.

"Look who dares to show her face," sneered Lady Jin, daughter of a lesser marquis. "The disgraced whore now plays noblewoman again."

Lin Yue walked past her like she hadn't heard. Then, pausing, she turned slightly, voice like venom in silk.

> Lin Yue (calmly): "Better a whore who survived than a virgin who fades unnoticed."

The air froze. Someone choked on tea.

---

POV: Crown Prince (Rui Shen)

From a hidden corridor behind a silk screen, Crown Prince Rui Shen (Crown Prince) watched.

He shouldn't have been there.

But he was. Again.

> Rui Shen (to himself): "She was always beautiful... but now, she's dangerous."

She had haunted his nights. Guilt tangled with obsession. He'd thrown her away, believing lies, and now she rose like fire from ash. And he burned for her.

---

Back at the palace, murmurs swirled around her name.

> Minister Qiao (whispering): "The Yue girl? She will apply for Huaqing?" Official Lu: "She'll never pass." Eunuch Pan (chuckling): "Then again, who else silenced Madam Hu like that in public court?"

---

POV: Imperial Court Onlooker

> "I saw her trial. She didn't flinch. She stared down officials like they were ants. I tell you, she will get in. And when she does... gods help us all."

---

That night, Lin Yue stood on the high balcony of her reclaimed courtyard. Below, fireflies danced. Above, the moon carved silver across the sky.

Her maid, Xiao Lan, wrapped a cloak around her shoulders.

> Xiao Lan (softly): "Miss... will you truly go to Huaqing?" Lin Yue: "Not just go, Xiao Lan. I'll take it."

And with that, she descended the steps, walking into a future soaked in silk, danger, and sin.
