Glaring at the [Razor Chant] description for a few seconds, Nolan sighed and moved on to the second one.
[Drenched: When drenched, your strength will get a boost.]
Looking at the description, he heaved a sigh of relief. At least this one wasn't as cryptic. It still wasn't straightforward, but it was good compared to a few of the last ones.
'And this one is good as well...' he thought, nodding his head.
Remembering the fight between the monkey and the sea monster, Nolan was somehow convinced the monsters from the waters are way more dangerous than the ones living on the surface.
If that were to be true, then every little help he can get counts.
And even if that wasn't true, there was no reason for not receiving any help he could get. After all these little help could be the difference between life and death in the god forsaken land.
'Blood trail... let's see what you have for me,' thinking, Nolan thought of the third description.
[Blood trail: The more you bleed, the stronger you get.]
'Huh!'
Lifting his eyes, he read the description.
'Tsk! Let's never use this description.'
After fighting or more like running away from the monkey, he wasn't in the mood to get bloodied... ever, if he could. Who knows what kind of abomination the smell of blood could summon?
Nolan thought of not getting bloodied, but even he knew this was almost impossible. Still, he wasn't in the mood to bleed just to get a strength boost.
Looking at the description one more time, he moved to the fourth and the final one.
[Hurling Oath: Pierced by the sharp limb, it looked at them with nothing but envy and greed. It wanted to have them for itself as well.
Feeding the essence can transform the sword into a spear.]
Reading the description, he looked at the sword in his hand and thought of something.
'But how can I feed it essence…'
Nolan was about to frown, but stopped, remembering the feeling he had learned just before entering this place.
'Was that the way to feed the essence?'
Sighing, Nolan calmed his heart.
Looking at the blade, he remembered the feeling he had experienced a few moments earlier and tried to follow it. At first, he did it completely wrong, but soon enough, he began to get the hang of it.
Soon, he was on the verge of doing it perfectly.
Nolan wasn't able to learn the technique in a short amount of time because he was some once-in-a-millennium genius. No, it was just that the method was somehow not only engraved in his brain but also in his body, making it far simpler than even learning how to crawl for the first time.
Finally, he did it successfully. The moment he did it, the blade was engulfed in pale white. The same thing happened, and the size of the sword increased.
Moments later, everything finished, and instead of a sword, now a beautiful spear lay in his hand. It was about 2m wide, with its design being almost too similar to the sword.
Looking at the spear, Nolan weighed it and felt the elegance and perfection of its crafter once again.
Looking at the spear, he stopped channeling his essence, but the spear continued to assume its shape.
'How do I turn it back…'
Thinking, he thought of the enchantment and fed it essence once again. His method turned out to be correct, as the spear changed its form and became a sword once again.
Remembering the meaning of all four of its enchantments, Nolan couldn't help but think out loud,
"Am I the lucky one, or are every item's enchantments this versatile... Well, whatever the case, I'm good for the time being..."
Nodding his head, he closed the enchantment table and looked at the [Plumveil] description as a whole once again.
He wanted nothing more than to get out of this place and swing his swords a few times. His childhood feeling of swinging the blades had begun to resurface, and for whatever reason, he was getting excited to swing the blade once again.
But he suppressed these desires, as there were two more rows left in the [Plumveil].
[Longing] and [Blessing] were the names of these two sections.
'What could they mean…'
Thinking, Nolan looked at their descriptions.
[Longing: Without a befitting fight and getting killed like that, it longs for nothing more than the death of the being who had killed it.]
After reading, it took him a few moments to realize what the description was talking about, and the more he began to grasp what [Longing] meant. And as he understood them, a frown appeared over his face.
'Why would I kill it... Forget about killing, is there even a chance for me to kill that thing? Fuck, and wasn't it you who wanted to kill me? Why would I kill my benefactor? The enemy of my enemy is my friend, and who kills their friend. Certainly not me. Does it take me as an ungrateful bastard... huh! I'm not like that.'
Shaking his head, Nolan moved to the next section.
[Blessing: Fulfilling the longing will grant you a blessing of further growth.]
Nolan squinted his eyes as he read the description. Something clicked in his mind as he closed the description and checked something else. As he confirmed his suspicions, a faint smile appeared on his face.
Looking at [Blessing]'s description, he whispered,
"On second thought... killing the sea monster doesn't sound that bad. Does it..."
Nolan considered it for a moment, but soon enough, he was shaking his head,
"doesn't sound bad my ass… absolutly it sounds bad—what even am I thinking? There is no way to fight that monster. And for what? This measly blessing? And who knows how much it will help me grow further."
Yes, after reading the description of his Rank's [Trial], he was sure the growth this [Blessing] was talking about was the same one that would help him advance to the next rank.
He had found the method... but that didn't make his work easier. But that was enough for now; after all, it gave him something. Something precious.
It just gave him a direction... a way forward. A purpose Nolan could focus on for now.
