Chapter 13 - Rewards

Zayden and the rest of the team were reveling in the sensation of having their wounds healed, thanks to the level-up that they hadn't had time to listen to the system notification. But in a few moments, the sensation was gone, and now they were all back to their senses.

"I thought we were going to die," Dare said. "My heart almost leaped out of my mouth."

Unfortunately, no one paid any attention to him, as their focus was on the system messages that came in waves.

Before they finished reading all the messages, they had leveled up again. Golden glows enveloped the bodies of each person, and they once again closed their eyes, reveling in the sensation of leveling up. At this point, both Zayden and Tyrel were at level ten, whereas Darian and Dare were at the peak of level nine.

[Level Up]

'Level 10 was a milestone for everybody on planet Earth because, at this point, they would make contact with the higher beings, the constellations, ' Zayden thought.

Zayden would not have dared to imagine himself having all of this in his past life, but this time, he got them. The first clear of a boss monster and the new title. He was happy because he got all of this, but what he was most happy about was the fact that he could finally form a contract with one of the many constellations.

One must understand that the constellation one chooses determines one's future, both literally and figuratively. Selecting a strong constellation that is not compatible with you would limit your future.

This was exactly what happened to Zayden from his memories. He chose a strong constellation, but unfortunately, this constellation was incompatible, and his future achievements were limited to none.

Another thing that determined one's future was their soul power.

For example, someone finds the constellation they are compatible with, but during the formation of the contract, their souls are unable to take the pressure and explode, leading to their death. This meant that even though someone had a bright future, they might not be able to get to that future if their soul wasn't strong enough to get there.

The only unfortunate thing was that there was no known way to increase the power of the soul, in this life, and his memories from his past life. So it all came down to luck.

But Zayden was not worried about that. With his soul power in four digits, there was no way he was going to die unless he met one of those supreme constellations. But all of that was put at the back of his mind because he was not taking the compatibility test now.

It was time to check out all the rewards given to him by the system.

In front of each member of the team were four green orbs. Four green orbs that were filled with rewards, which would make surviving this apocalypse a tad bit easier.

"Let's do this," Tyrel said, with visible excitement on his face. After deciding, every member of the team raised their orbs into the air and smashed them on the ground.

A blinding green light shot into the sky, and it could be seen by almost everyone on the campus, both human and not. To the survivor, it was like a signal. But who would have thought that this green light was from a group of ignorant youth opening up presents?

Now, one would think if humans could see it, then nulls also saw it too so wouldn't it draw the nulls to them also.

Well, it wasn't exactly like that. As explained before, the null were only drawn to the life force. So even if they see the light, they wouldn't think to move towards the light. But even though the light didn't draw the nulls, the group was still at risk of facing numerous mutant beasts.

A short while later, the light died down, and a pile of items was on the ground. In front of Zayden was a blue colored orb that gave off a faint glow, an anvil that seemed to be used for forging, a forging hammer, and finally a book.

Unlike other books, this book didn't give off any glow and seemed normal, if not for the drawing of a hammer slamming into an anvil on the cover of the boo.k

The first thing that drew Zayden's attention was the blue orb. It was the size of normal reward orbs given by the system, but from his knowledge of the future, Zayden knew exactly what this orb was. It was a system reward that was two grades higher than the rare reward.

"A...a... legendary reward," Zayden said while trying to catch his breath. What he said caught the attention of everyone in the group. They were surprised because this was the first time they had seen a legendary reward.

What Zayden was surprised at was the fact that a legendary reward came in this early into the apocalypse. From his memories, he remembered that the last time a legendary reward came was three years into the apocalypse, but it came much too quickly in this lifetime. One has to remember it had not even been a week since the start of the apocalypse, yet a legendary reward had appeared in the world, and in the hands of Zayden nonetheless.

"I am changing the future," Zayden muttered softly, so much so that no one could hear what he said.

After the short period of surprise, Zayden decided to keep the rewards in his ring and wait until after he had formed his contract to see what the legendary reward was.

Once he was done assessing his rewards, his attention turned to the rest of the group. Each of them had four items in front of them. One thing that was common between every person was the fact that there was a spatial ring in their piles of items.

"It seems like the system has taken a liking to you guys," Zayden said. There were confused expressions on each of their faces. But what they didn't know was that the drop rate of spatial rings, even from green orbs, was very, very low, so it was considered a luxury for a person to have a spatial ring in his previous life, even though it was just a low-grade one.

On Dare's side were two tubes filled with a darkish blue liquid and a book with the drawing of a closed eyelid made out of circuit patterns. But from their previous experience, they knew that the two tubes were nanobots.

With excitement on his face, Dare picked up the two tubes and marked them quickly, making them his own. Before long, there were three spiders around Dare as he picked up the final sight, which was a book.

"Analyze"

As Dare said that, the book turned into light particles that entered his head. As the information of the skill settled into his brain, there was a sudden glint in his eyes, and excitement came quickly after.
