Chapter 7 - Understanding - Part 2

*Icarus POV*

*Location: New York City, New York*

*Date: July 8th, 2010, 9:00 AM*

The next few days were an interesting experience for as while it didn't take long for my body to heal, my energy reserves lowered as I did so. I was eventually back to 100%, but it took time and energy. During that time, while my physical abilties weren't weakened, at least not to a noticeable degree, my energy levels were.

Either way, during that time my flying capabilities were...less than useful except for a sort burst apparently. By the time I landed, or crash landed at least, I was only a bit further away from wherever I was, only to end up somewhere similar, although not as dark, but still had that grotesque smell. It wasn't as bad at first, but I spent the last few days wandering around, watching the people and how this city, as the humans called it, worked, how they interacted with one another.

It was...odd to say the least, even without checking the news as they call it, I could see that the event as they call it, wasn't irregular but also an outlier in its way. Apparently, this world has faced countless threats like that, including one that had led to the creation of a group calling themselves the Justice League, which worked alongside the UN, or United Nations. It was fascinating to learn how humans had created all these systems and created or found this knowledge.

I went to this place called a public library, which had all these strange things called books, and while it did take a while to learn how to read the language properly, or perhaps to them it was quick since I could speak English but didn't know the written form itself. Either way, a nice girl going by the name Rebecca helped me; she was a nice college student, which I learned was an advanced center of learning. Either way, she directed me to the section where I could properly learn the written part of it.

It took some time, of course, but I was able to eventually learn how all these words fit together, what each one meant, using the context of the knowledge I already had. It was interesting to learn about humanity, not just humanity, though the countless species it had interacted with so far were a sight to behold. That green humanoid was apparently from a planet called Mars, which I had passed on my way to Earth. Then there were the Atlanteans and Amazonians, two people thought to be myths brought into reality.

Then the myths themselves, what the mind of a sentient species could come up with and tell in such detail, are amazing. I also did some, what was it called, fun things once I was done reading and exploring the city. While some of the sights were indeed mesmerizing, as most would call it, far better than Pluto, which I now knew was the name of the Dwarf Planet I landed on. It also explained why it was so horrible there; apparently, the closer a planet was to the sun, the more optimal living conditions would be, well, alongside other factors, of course, but that was a basic part of it.

Either way, it was an interesting experience to wander the city, with people calling me a weirdo, or homeless guy, or poor thing. Honestly, some of it sounded like insults, other times more pitiful, I believe is the term. That didn't happen as much as I explored the "bad side" as they called it, the places trash ended up, or where it was all run down, in disrepair, things like that.

Today's walk wasn't any different as I passed by a nice little store, it was called "The Garcia Pizzeria." A nice little Mexican/Pizza place run by a nice family, I passed by a few times, and as I passed by, I saw two masked people enter. At first, I thought that perhaps they were picking up a pizza or two for a party, I had heard people talk about these things, and typical party behavior.

That's when I heard the screaming, the panicked shouting from the nice family inside alongside the angry ravings of the now hostile masked people. Sighing, I entered the restaurant and saw that they were both holding guns, glocks, if I am to believe it is the correct term. The owners who are, I believe, the third generation of this restaurant, from when their grandparents first came here and were able to keep the business going. I always enjoyed talking with people; it helped me understand what other lifeforms possibly went through, the culture of this place, and everything that came with it.

They were both screaming about cash and the like, as the two newly weds as I had learned, were interesting enough to learn during our talks. Then the husband saw me walk in and had the fear of god in his eyes, as while they were still terrified of dying, I could see this man had a love of life I...I unfortunately didn't have it yet. I was, or at least I think I am, starting to appreciate them, but it will be a long process. Right now, I want to help these two; they deserve a life and not to be in fear of people like this.

As the two individuals turned around, I held my right arm outstretched and stretched my index finger, forming two small energy spheres at the end of it. I then quickly shot them out, destroying their weapons, and hopefully putting the fear of god in them.

"If one of you two could please call the police, I'm sure they would greatly appreciate the easy arrest, as I am sure they won't be leaving anytime soon." As I said that, the wife, Isabella, went to a landline, I believe it was called.

"Also, I have heard great things about a food called Pizza, if I could have a slice of it, I would greatly appreciate it as I haven't been on this world for long." That seemed to surprise them for some reason, oh well, this world was full of surpises, guess I was one of them now.
