Chapter 14 - Point Of No Return

The next morning, they continued their journey to Tarah at dusk, setting off early. The journey was smoother now, having passed the rough part of the road.

They got to Tarah's war camp in the afternoon, where they decided to rest for the whole day, deciding that they would continue the journey the next day.

King Potter was put in a separate tent. Prince Gregory had ordered the soldiers not to treat him like a prisoner, he had only placed two guards at the entrance to his tent.

At night, Prince Gregory sat with War Lord Robert the Strong to explain to him the reasons for his actions of late, particularly since he left for Tarah to take the message of armistice sent by King Potter to the Supreme King. Bloodeye was also present in the settings.

"Like I said to you before leaving for Dexon " Prince Gregory started, while Lord Robert the Strong listened to him attentively "My father agreed to the armistice, but he as a condition "

"Yes, that was what you said, but you never mentioned the condition" War Lord Robert the Strong pointed out.

"Yes, I know" Prince Gregory nodded "the condition was for King Potter to come to Tarah alone, and kowtow at the Supreme King's feet"

"So that was why you went to Dexon, so you could take King Potter to Tarah." Lord Robert the Strong nodded in understanding. "Now I understand," he said. "But I still don't understand, why it must be you who do it"

"Which King will want to kowtow to another king? " Asked Prince Gregory "I have to go there myself, and promise to make sure he returns safely"

"You promise him that?" Asked War Lord Robert the Strong, in surprise.

"Yes, I have to," Prince Gregory shrugged.

"No, you don't "

"Not everything should be done with force Robert, you taught me that," said Prince Gregory, and Lord Robert smiled.

***********

The next morning Prince Gregory stood alone at the edge of the camp, staring at the road to Tarah. Behind him, the soldiers move in a more relaxed way, their swords sheathed, and a smile could be seen on some of their faces. The war had lasted for two long years, and though they were winning but everyone was tired of the countless battles being fought over the years.

Rumours since yesterday have already been spreading in the war camp about the war finally coming to an end, since the person who started the war, King Potter of Dexon, is here in their camp, which could only mean one thing: the war is coming to an end.

Bloodeye escorted King Potter out of his tent, and Prince Gregory said goodbye to War Lord Robert the Strong. The three mounted their horses and rode off. They had to reach Tarah tonight.

They rode through the camp, and before noon, they had gotten to the territory of Tarah, though it would still take them hours to reach Tarah.

At Midnight they enter Tarah and make way to the Palace. On their way, people open up the window to take a look at the new King of Dexon who dares rebel against the supreme King. But King Potter kept his composure, he is a king after all, and can handle himself I'm this kind of situation.

Getting to the Palace King Potter dismounted his horse silently. His leg trembled slightly, and he would be lying if he said he wasn't afraid, it was as if he was at the point of no return.

"You will rest tonight," Prince Gregory said, his voice firm but not unkind. "The Supreme King does not hold court by moonlight. You will be summoned at first light."

King Potter gave a shallow nod. "Then my fate will be known tomorrow," he said.

Bloodeye grunted but said nothing. He turned, signaling to the guards who would escort Potter to his chambers. The King of Dexon followed them, his footsteps echoing through the marble halls, each one a tolling bell of the war's end.
